After a less-than-stellar last international season, Yuji Nishida decided to prove just how good he really is this year. And his gameplay is certainly backing that up.
On the other hand, Toncek Stern missed the entire last season due to injury, which caused massive problems for Slovenia without him.
In this year's Nations League, these guys are dominating everything in their path, so it was insanely interesting to see what would happen when Japan and Slovenia faced off on the court in a head-to-head match.
Now, in our "Face-off" segment, we have two of the best opposites in the world going head-to-head, and we'll find out who is truly better!
For those unfamiliar with this video format, Face-off is a segment where we compare two volleyball players in the same position during a single match, using my subjective scoring system. The goal isn't to elevate one player over another or discredit anyone-it's just an entertaining video.
So how are we going to compare them? Since we have opposites on the court, we'll compare them in three categories: attack, serve, and block. If a player scores a point in an attack, they get 1 point; if they lose a point in this element, we subtract 1 point.
If an opposite serves an ace, they get a bonus of 1.5 points. For a disrupted reception that significantly hampers the opponent's play, they get an additional 0.5 points, but for a service error, we subtract 0.5 points from their score.
For a point scored on a block, the player gets 1 point. There are no penalties here.
But let's not forget about one more parameter-clutch points. This comes into play when both teams have reached 20 points, and the difference between them is no more than 3 points. The value of each action in these moments increases by 0.5 points, both in terms of scoring and deducting points.
Whoever has the most points by the end of the match wins. I hope the rules are clear, so let's get to the face-off between Yuji Nishida and Toncek Stern. Let's go!
