I'd only go there if I had hours/the entire day to spare so I could eat multiple meals in one. I worked all through college and the on-campus jobs paid the absolute worst wages in the area. $4 for a healthy meal is a dream.

I was living the dorms in American University. My mum used to visit me once a week . It was Friday evening. She stayed overnight. Both of us went to University ' s cafeteria. There was nothing to eat 'except stale pizza, burgers, spaghetti after ,which beware of heartburn. I bought like four pieces of chicken , salad bowl for two. so called coffee , it all cost me $30 . That salad tasted like a grass, and coffee like a toilet sh*t water. 😂

The meals are subsidized and, if you prove you earn less than a certain amount, it's free. I used to pay 0.24 USD for lunch or dinner at my university and it's been that price for two decades now.
We get something called “free lunch” in America , where kids in school get to get lunch for free ONLY if they think their parents don’t make enough income to give their kid 5$ for lunch money. My bf was one of those kids who’s parents made “enough” but in reality it all went to bills and the house so he didn’t get lunches for a while until I gave him mine
I had a buffet style at my college that was decent but it's was 12.50 a meal. And you couldn't transfer or swipe visitors in so I would end up wasting swipes each week. It was so stupid.
The price is considered okey for a lunch at college, cauz it’s mostly non-profit and the university subsidizes a certain amount. Usually a casual meal at Korea will cost sth around 7-9$. More like 10-15$ for a dinner at expensive tourist places like Gangnam or hongdae.
In France, there is the 1€ meal for some students (the ones who get the grant on sicial criteria - a certain amount of money per month depending on your parents' income, and other factors such as the home-uni distance, siblings...), for the rest, it's 3,30€ i believe. And, it depends on the canteens, but in Paris at least, the food is great! There are also smaller cafeterias in which you can buy sandwiches, pastries, coffee or hot chocolate... In this case, a sandwich, a bottle of water and a fruit or yoghurt will be 1€ (again, for certain students)

In my country all of the uni meals are fixed at a price of 0,064 USD, which is super cheap in our currency as well since that money will only buy two candies. But the government fixed the price for a full meal and I'm grateful for that
Korea University had a really good cafeteria. I actually wish I would have eaten there more, but we were always out an about, but absolutely recommend it for any student on a budget!

In Indian colleges you will never get to see any food installed area , here usually students carries the lunch, snacks with them. Well if we talk about higher universities we can expect to get food service which we call in our language "mess" the price and quality depends upto universities .

For example, if I go to my local restaurant to get the same dishes, I could get the spicy pork for about $4 (the rice comes with it) and soup for another $4. The other dishes would usually come free as side dishes though the side dishes vary with different restaurants. $4 for this buffet is super cheap and you wouldn’t find that outside of a campus or a corporate cafeteria since they get contracts and deals with produce/ingredient providers to keep costs low for students or employees.

The amount you get is amazing for 4 bucks but as a colloge student I would not have enough money to spend 4 bucks for one meal daily. 20 school days would amount to 80 bucks and thats without brrakfast and dinner.
As far as I know, the reason why such a diet cannot be offered in the states is that it is difficult to create a suitable menu to satisfy various ethnicities and to avoid lawsuits, all potential allergy-causing foods must be excluded.
In my university we pay for the weight of the food. Every 100 grams are about dollar. The bad thing is that you don’t know the final price and there were times I didn’t have enough money to pay😅
I was invited by a professor to eat at his university--Ko Dae Univeristy--when I was in Seoul for an academic conference. He treated, so I don't know the price. But it was the student/faculty canteen. And it was really tasty...much better than cafeteria food in the dorms in the States.
