I personally, love to see you catch a pint at the end...kinda signature sign-off, in my opinion. Keep Up The Great Work Joolsie, you and Simon, from your pal from Louisiana, USA..Cheers!
Only ever passed battersea on the train in to Victoria, never realised how attractive and interesting the area was, definitely on my 2019 list of Joolz areas to visit!
I visited Battersea Park for the first time (well, since I was a very young boy which I've long since forgotten) a couple of days ago on a flying visit - it is indeed very attractive, well worth a visit.
My ex used to live in Battersea between 2004-2005 when we were both students at Imperial, before all the redevelopment began. We've long split but this video brought back fond memories. Thanks
Hi lovely Joolz, I have a suggestion that can possible help some of your viewers (me included :)). When you make some brilliant points (Like how Association Rules Football leads to the word soccer) it may be helpful to have the text on the screen to solidify the fact, to show the link visually. Without seeing the words sometimes a really interesting fact like that can wash over me without sinking in, and I have to pause the video if I really want it to sink in, but seeing the words would help me process and remember the fact better. The same would be helpful in cases where you're describing origins and meanings of place names - some overlaying text showing the place name, and the words it's made up of, would be brilliant to help the info really stick, - - if it's not too much of a bother for you to add :) Just thought I'd also take this opportunity to say: thank you for your fabulous videos! I love them lots like jelly tots!
Greatings from Austria! I just discovered your channel 2 weeks ago and since then I am absolutely into your videos! You and Simon are doing a great job! Best city tours ever ! All the details, the knowledge of history and literature....simply amazing! Also the music....just perfectly chosen!!!(greetings to your sisters' band and the funny guy with the mostache from the sing-along-pub) We're going to London in two weeks and hope to spot you somewhere! Please go on making these outstanding videos about London! Thank you so much! Elli
Oh bravo! (Or brava in the feminine case). Yes, struggling a bit with Clapham for next week but I'll do my best! I hope you realise you are largely responsible for these south London jaunts...so if it all goes wrong I blame you!
Joolz. While you were at Battersea Square, it might have interested you to know that Prince George's now former school overlooks the site of Bennetts, which was a night spot run by Princess Margaret's one-time beau, Roddy Llewellyn in the 70s and 80s. Apparently it featured a glass dance floor with piranhas swimming underneath. When Bennetts opened, local residents were not enamoured with the notion of "Hooray Henrys" cavorting in their down-at-heel neighbourhood (this was before the wine bars and pedestrianisation) and their protests and picketing culminated in the premises being daubed with white paint. So it's interesting that the new locals seem now to belong to those same affluent classes. I spent my teens living about 100 metres to the south but 100 metres to the north is St Mary's Church, where William Blake was married and Benedict Arnold was buried.
I'm staying at Battersea for my holidays on september, it's my first time in London and at first I thought it looked like a sketchy neighbourhood but now you've changed my mind!
Reminds me of when I was minicabbing in the 80s and Battersea was being gentrified. Some posh girls asked me to take them to Battersia (four syllables) Village
I just happened to come across your videos by accident & I had to subscribe! Your videos are so cool! I wish every tour guide I've had on trips in my life had been as interesting and nice as you are. Thanks for the fun!
Jooz 2020 now, just seen your video on Battersea Park, you forgot to mention there used to be a enclosed funfair that cost a shilling to enter in the 50s and 60s, great times and the boating lake too, enjoy your videos to, from me 70 plus now, keep it up,
Just started watching your videos, brilliant, then I see you have one on my place of birth, Battersea!!! Still miss it. The church on the river, St Mary's was where Turner used to sit and sketch the Thames, his chair is still there! Both mum and aunt got married there!. And the asparagus link, they used to be sold in battersea bundles, plus also famous for lavender, fergie used to live in lavender Hill and the kinks wrote a song about. Did notice you avoided the rough bits like the junction and my old estate, winstanley, probably a good idea lol. Still a great video thank you Joolz
Trish TV here......Max and I are heading to London TODAY! We are staying at Battersea Park. Cannot WAIT and thank you for all the advice. Hope we see you on the street this week so we can say HI Jules!!!!!!
Love Staffordshire Bull Terriers, my first two pets were Staffies, they are the BEST! and very misunderstood, but also have to make sure the "right"person adopts them. will check out Simon's Staffie jewelry
In Battersea Park you should have mentioned the Little Brown Dog riots.Anti vivisection demos between 1903/7. See commemorative statue. My dad, born 1911 in Battersea remembers kids going to school barefoot. The area has now become very expensive.
Joolz.... Is the location at 8:03 anyway near Railway Arch in Culvert Place, where both an episode of the greatest TV show ever - Minder - was shot; as well as being the very same filming location for George's Lock Up in the film A Fish Called Wanda.? Some classic London filming locations that are worth seeing if you are interested in such things! Well for an Australian fan at least !!
Blimey Joolz - You kindly pointed me to this video, which I'd somehow missed, and it bloomin' opens with a paraphrased quote from one nearly all-time favourite TV series, 'Knight Rider'! ('The A-Team' just beats it). You missed the chance for some post editing fun though when talking about 'Monkey' - you could have done some poorly dubbed out-of-sync action there! But great video. Other appearances of Battersea Power Station include it appearing, half destroyed, in the classic William Hartnell 'Doctor Who' story 'The Dalek Invasion of Earth' (1964). Battersea Park is lovely in it's layout (I visited first time since I was very young this week, hence looking for the video); I was looking for the Brown Dog riots statue, an extremely controversial statue in it's time. Also, sad fact, in the 1970s Battersea Gardens was the site of the world's most fatal roller coaster incident. Hearing you mention Bazalgette (who I'm only now just starting to fully appreciate his works and read up on) gives me suggestion for maybe a new video threat - iconic engineers who changed London. James Henry Greathead and the iconic Brunel would also be good subjects; as their works can still be seen in so many places in London. ...I'm starting to sound like my own dad now, I'll shut up.
In high school physics my teacher taught us about resonant frequency. It is what creates the hum of a crystal glass when running your finger around the ridge. Anyway, resonant frequency is what makes bridges bend and twist. Usually contributed by the span of the bridge and the speed of the wind hitting the bridge. If you.want to see it in action, Google the Tacoma Narrows bridge.
Joolz Guides ... I wish I'd had you as my history teacher at school... Loved your video about Brixton (I'm SW2 born and raised) . Any chance of you venturing even further south and doing a video about Streatham/Norwood??.
If there are any tourists in london just for a few days then do a tour with this guy, dont waste your time on a open top bus with 100s of other tourists, see the real london, These guides and fun and very informative
Thank you for showing a lesser known side of London, and speaking of beers, do a video about hand pump beers and local breweries. Hand pumps and non-carbonated beers are unique to Britain, most tourist end up drinking regular beers, they simply ignore the deliciousness of non-carbonated beers one can find, for example at The George Inn. On another note, I have noticed that if your put London at the beginning of your video titles, your videos are easier to find, more people should discover your channel. Thanks again, keep it up!
Oh thanks! Yes, all good points. I hate SEO. I keep having to change my titles to things that I don't want. I shall try that for my next one. I'm sure you're right. The beer one is a good idea.
hi Julian have you ever made many south east London .? my Nan said in the war that they bombed Battersea and Chapham a lot trying to destroy the powerstation. could you please make a video of how the tfl bike work can u use a oystercard with them ? kind regards Ric great video love them
The music from 1:90 to 2:00 sounds very much like "South American Chase" from the soundtrack to "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid". Not a bad track, but I don't get the connection. Oh, and as always a wonderful bit of film. Yours, not BCATSK, which I hated when I was 15.
I believe Battersea Power Station was shut down in 1983, possibly in response to the Miner's Strike, 'though it might just have been to improve London's air quality.
Julian, are you self-educated yourself or do you study history books along the ride? Thanks for your videos and please continue to upload. This is so entertaining, have a good day. //Sweden
Thanks. It's a bit of both. Certainly I need to read a bit about South London as I'm not from that part. Things are always changing too, which doesn't help. I know a fair bit about the centre and north just from living here.
Hey Joolzie, Why not do several pub crawl videos? You can get as fat as Orson Welles. I'd pay you 500 pound for a 6 hour pub crawl when I get there. Also...you should create a Joolz Guide for the ten great cities of the world. I'm sure that each city government would pay you to promote their city with these wonderfully informative and entertaining videos. 10 videos for each city shot over the course of a week. I've never thought of London as a vacation spot...but you make me want to spend a couple of weeks there. That's valuable dude.
Thanks Chris. Well yes, this is the idea but for some reason they just don't reply to me. That's why I've been asking if anyone out there is good at that side of things. I will use this comment as proof to them if I may! But if you know anyone who could represent me and contact these tourism boards that would be great. They just don't understand. they're living in the stone age. I'm up for advice!! See you when you get here!!! I'm up for a pub crawl!
I thought it was about some sort of seas and beaches... Why don't you make some like that... Would have had a glance of that as well... Love from India...
Don't worry, if I hire you for a walk it will definitely not include a pub crawl. I'm allergic to alcohol. That developed when I was in my 30s so I do actually know what I'm missing. Oh for a cider! *sigh*
Thanks for making it clear that you are not an alcoholic. We had a great time on our walk with you. I will send pics soon. Thanks for the awesome videos!!!

What is this "A tour through London with Joolz McDonnell Weird Side" video?
you should make a new Battersea one, now the power station is finished. Love your videos
Old but gold.
I personally, love to see you catch a pint at the end...kinda signature sign-off, in my opinion. Keep Up The Great Work Joolsie, you and Simon, from your pal from Louisiana, USA..Cheers!
Cheers...we did have a few when I saw him off at the station!
I passed it once and saw naked girl hoovering her flat the new one opposite to the power station
My ex used to live in Battersea between 2004-2005 when we were both students at Imperial, before all the redevelopment began. We've long split but this video brought back fond memories. Thanks
Oh..you should send it to your ex!
I can´t understand all, but it will make my English much better. Great City, greetings from Germany!
The spring weather may be disappointing Jules but you always put a spring in my step. ❤️
Yes, I was hoping there'd be more flowers in the English garden!
Fantastic as always! These are some of my favourite videos on UA-cam 😀
Great. Thanks Rowan. South London isn't my forte so I'm doing my best!
I enjoyed this tour!
I lived in Battersea as a kid; thanks for the jaunty trip down memory lane
Oh nice....I used to go there as a kid too and it was lovely to go back. Nice memories.

I just discovered your channel 2 weeks ago and since then I am absolutely into your videos!
You and Simon are doing a great job! Best city tours ever ! All the details, the knowledge of history and literature....simply amazing! Another enjoyable video Julian! Making our list for places to visit next time we visit your incredible city ... so much to see.
No way! Are you coming back? Good job!!
No specific plans yet but definitely making a return trip!
Superman 3 was mostly filmed in my hone town of Calgary Alberta Canada. And the desert scenes in Utah. I never knew they also filmed in london

awwwww I miss London terribly... PLEASE LET ME STAY!!!!
Dont its beyond third world now
Nice video, already waiting for the next one :-)
Thank you Ralf.
As a child me, my dad and brother used to walk from Pimlico to Battersea Park, on a Sunday morning, to kick a ball about.
Fantastic! My dog (who I adopted from Battersea) & I love it!
Oh bravo! (Or brava in the feminine case). Yes, struggling a bit with Clapham for next week but I'll do my best! I hope you realise you are largely responsible for these south London jaunts...so if it all goes wrong I blame you!

You can't fool us Jules, the Coca-Cola is hiding half a pint of rum, now be honest..
I'm staying at Battersea for my holidays on september, it's my first time in London and at first I thought it looked like a sketchy neighbourhood but now you've changed my mind!
I'm Battersea born and bred and it's a great part of London!
it can be sketchy!
Hello from Atlanta! You always crack me up with your videos! I hope you, and Simon, are well and thanks for another Joolz Guide!
Thanks Sean. I think Simon looks like the sax player from the muppets in that hat!!!!
I like this vid and seeing my old school.
I watched up the Junction recently. The intro is a great 60s panorama of this area
That's an old Ken Loach tv drama? I think Loach still has offices in Soho or Covent Garden to this day.
Reminds me of when I was minicabbing in the 80s and Battersea was being gentrified. Some posh girls asked me to take them to Battersia (four syllables) Village
Oh Battereeee seea dahhling!!
Who can remember Fulham before it was gentrified?
I just happened to come across your videos by accident & I had to subscribe! Your videos are so cool! I wish every tour guide I've had on trips in my life had been as interesting and nice as you are. Thanks for the fun!
Ha ha.. Thanks..well I'm more of a film maker really
Jooz 2020 now, just seen your video on Battersea Park, you forgot to mention there used to be a enclosed funfair that cost a shilling to enter in the 50s and 60s, great times and the boating lake too, enjoy your videos to, from me 70 plus now, keep it up,
Fantastic stuff..very enjoyable.
Extra! Extra! Julian on south bank! Extra! Extra! Julian is not drinking beer!
Stop the press!!! Read all about it!!! (I had a beer with Simon later that day!)
That monk has got a sweet gig there.
You should do a pub crawl video with all the old pubs around Fleet Street
Just started watching your videos, brilliant, then I see you have one on my place of birth, Battersea!!! Still miss it. I am glad Joolz went to the Battersea dogs and cats home. I have watched Paul Ogrady’s show from there!
Really enjoyed this video! Can't wait for the next
I hope I can do it justice... I'll be heading to South London again and I'm not as good down there!
Thanks so much! I’m looking at staying in this area during my visit
Joolzy have fond memories of Battersea Park fun fair Sad it had to close!!!! 😢😇🙏⛲🎉

Great video and I enjoyed the movie location bit.
Yes, a few things were filmed there. I think Absolute Beginners too.
러브리 배터시 = lovely battersea
damn, damn, i miss London, lots of jealous from Canada
Not just a "diamond", a cut and polished diamond.
Joolz you forgot to go to Battersea where the fun fair was it closed in 1974 It was a child's British Disney Land from Pretoria South Africa
Blimey Joolz - You kindly pointed me to this video, which I'd somehow missed, and it bloomin' opens with a paraphrased quote from one nearly all-time favourite TV series, 'Knight Rider'! Stanley Docks in Liverpool is the largest brick building in The UK, built in 1901... from memory
Superman didn't just crush it into a diamond but a cut diamond!
Pip, pip and tally-ho! 😁
Scott also styled the Aga and the Original London Transport Routemaster bus I believe.
You didn't mention the fun fair in Battersea Park. :( ;)
Ha ha ha loved the Knightrider reference 🕶
Battersea is one place I’ve not been to, I’ve driven by the Dogs n Cats home but not visited the Gardens or indeed square for a sarnie 🥪😋
That “Lager” graffiti tag is famous round west London- that artist is the most prolific in the area :) loved the video.
Is that a fact? How strange. Odd choice of name. It isn't you, is it!
Hello Joolz. Is the Beehive Pub still there in Chelsea at the foot of the Albert Bridge? Or was it the Five Bells? 🤔
I want to go to the battersea again.
Video proof of sunshine in London. You should have a pint at the end, everyone needs things that make life worth living.👍
I know! And coca cola didn't even sponsor me!!! It rained every day either side of this film for about two weeks!
A other great video thanks
Cheers!
What music are you listening to when riding the bikes?
What happened to the old fun fair?
No, stay with the beer. Tell us about different types of ale etc. I always liked London Pride, myself
If there are any tourists in london just for a few days then do a tour with this guy, dont waste your time on a open top bus with 100s of other tourists, see the real london,
These guides and fun and very informative
Oh, thank you Leo. Yes, although I must say my legs are really beginning to hurt! I have to start limiting the amount of walking I do.
Pre-corona, I used to drink my way through the beer mile. Have I missed your video on that?
Is battersea next to vauxhall
near Clapham? can you do a walk near Crescent Circle-Clapham? I wanna move there.
Nice jaunt. Pip 🎬
I'm sure that the Battersea Flower Station was in the comedy 'Bloomers' with Richard Beckinsale.
hi Julian have you ever made many south east London .? my Nan said in the war that they bombed Battersea and Chapham a lot trying to destroy the powerstation. could you please make a video of how the tfl bike work can u use a oystercard with them ? kind regards Ric great video love them
Joolz I thought you were actually a lush thanks for setting us straight.
9:00 - yeah.
I believe Battersea Power Station was shut down in 1983, possibly in response to the Miner's Strike, 'though it might just have been to improve London's air quality.
Excellent video and splendid content... //fredrik
Thank you. I have quite a few. Do subscribe for all the latest!
A CLASS ACT KEEP IT UP
Doing my best!

You can get as fat as Orson Welles.
I'd pay you 500 pound for a 6 hour pub crawl when I get there.

A two-fer! "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and "A Clockwork Orange"!
Nicely spotted!
We need a Fulham & Putney edition
I thought it was about some sort of seas and beaches... Why don't you make some like that... Would have had a glance of that as well...
Love from India...
Thanks Vishal. I do have a few films about the sea and beaches in other countries on my channel. Have a look at the documentaries.
My late auntie lived next door to the dogs home
Was the Monk's name 'Harry'!
The best food in London in the 80's was 555 Battersea Road is there a story with those three Irish sisters cuz it was great food
Oh ...I wish I knew it. I guess I'm no expert really. I used to go there as a kid though.
Too true. Great place with excellent food and lovely atmosphere.
Don't worry, if I hire you for a walk it will definitely not include a pub crawl. I'm allergic to alcohol. That developed when I was in my 30s so I do actually know what I'm missing. Oh for a cider! *sigh*

OK & LOVE
Eljay right outside of BTC!
No bad dogs. Only bad humans.
(I'm pretty sure I've seen a few evil cats though)
What!!!! No pint in the end....hell fire....wheres the world going to.
(I secretly filmed two that day so I actually had one at the end of the day!)
Thanks for making it clear that you are not an alcoholic. We had a great time on our walk with you. I will send pics soon.
Thanks for the awesome videos!!!
Thanks Brandon....well, despite you trying to buy me wine and beer! Thanks. I hope you're well.
Fun London Guides - Julian McDonnell Films to be fair, it was your birthday. I wasn’t trying to take advantage of you or anything haha
