I’d go as far to say he’s the best CB I’ve seen in a Newcastle. Colo is an icon but schar is really amazing.

It's funny because we got ripped by other fans because we were supposedly "dreaming of Mbappe but we got Trippier instead" as our first signing under the new owners.
I was buzzing with him signing. Being in the Champions league under Simeone in La Liga. Winning La Liga. Just. He is the ultimate marquee signing and history will show him as such. He helped change the dynamic and mentality at the club. He absolutely is the outstanding right back right now. Mbappe himself barely got a sniff at SJP too.
And poetically, it was Trippier who put him in his pocket.

Tripper was our hands down best signing in this new era for EVERYTHING he does on and off the field. Him and Longstaff in particular do not get enough credit vs the more obvious names. Longstaff coming back and Trips finding form has turned around our season, they partner so well on that side of the pitch..

He's the greatest captain we've had since Shearer ( I know, not "Club captain"...) because he absolutely DEMANDS standards. I've watched him boss around (and bollock) people twice his size like Botman, Pope, Lascelles etc. but he never seems to do it from a sense of superiority.
He WAS the best right back in the league last season and has started in the same manner. For people judging him from his Spurs time, he is very much transformed since then. He's got a ridiculous level of "Cleverness" in terms of his passing and defending. The way he'll scoop a little pass with 2 or 3 around him down the line to Almiron is so impressive. He wins headers against people 6 inches taller than him through timing and positioning consistently and is extremely hard to get past one on one.
Best signing since the takeover.
Our first signing under our new owners, was the most important and for me the best purchase so far.
It gets overlooked a bit but the Trippier signing was pretty lucky really. Emery turned the Newcastle job down and that's why Howe got the job. Howe knew Trippier already and was able to talk him into joining Newcastle. And if you follow that line of thought, become the catalyst for everything going on at Newcastle now.
I'd take Trippier over Trent at RB every day of the week, amazing footballer though Trent is.
Watching him play and hearing about his conduct off the field you feel like he could make a hell of a coach once he does retire.
When he does retire Newcastle should definitely keep him around as a coach

I've watched him a lot at live games in the warm up he basically helps the coaches just as much as he warms up, brilliant bloke

His move to Madrid did him wonders
TAA has a lot of raw talent but as mentioned several times in this video, Tripps' ability to read the game and make the right decisions is far superior. That's also the difference between a 25-year-old who's always been at the same club and a 33-year-old who's been at a few clubs including a league title winner in Spain.
Tripps will be, with a bit of luck, a top class manager. Wouldn't be surprised if he sticks around as a coach with Newcastle, and takes over from Eddie when he eventually takes the England job.

Can’t tell you where how much love Trips has in Newcastle. For a start, after his injury on just coming in, his impact on the dressing room group was profound. He made an impact on the mentality even though he wasn’t playing.

His performances in 2018 Russia is one of the best seen from an England player in a major tournament. Trippier since leaving Spurs has been unreal and it's a pity he had to come up against Walker because he would have double the amount of England caps.
As a signing he is up there with robert lee and beardo, the importance was that big

He's stepped up from last season which is hard to believe, all the talk is Maddison Odegard who's the most creative, its Trippier!
People banging on about how good szobozlai is and Liverpool fans piss taking Newcastle fans for losing out on the £60m signing but the lad has less goals and assists than Sean longstaff this season and doesn't do as much donkey work either.
He's so quick watching him live so aggressive
I had season tickets in the corner during Trippier’s first season with Newcastle and what impressed me most was that from game 1 he was doing all these things. He took no time to bed in, he just started to lead the team from RB immediately and you could see the instant improvement in Miggy and Murphy and Longstaff as a result of his brilliance.
Trips over TA every day of the week. Top draw for both ability, application and mentality.
He is the best full back in the epl, let alone right back. Also Trent as an inverted full back doesnt really work, he cant recieve the ball in the half turn, and isnt good at finding space when the opposition is pressing high. Puts Konate on a lot of pressure to pass back to Van Dijk or make those chipped passes to Salah or Szbozlai

The Howe & Tripps connection goes way back. Howe was manager of Burnley in 2011-2012 season & signed Trippier on loan from Man City before making the move permanent. These 2 go way back more than stated!

One element of his play that is so so crucial is that he also elevates the players around him by being so vocal on the pitch. He’s constantly organizing the players, pointing out the spaces or the threats. Dictating the pace and attitude. He is truly an extension of the manager on the pitch. He keeps the players focused and locked in. Players play better when they know what they need to do and have direction. He’s so tactically aware that he can quickly see weakness and relay that to his teammates. He plays a load of minutes but yet never seems knackered, because his awareness is so good, there’s no wasted energy with him.
Is he not the best right back currently, in the world? Players like Hakimi, Cancelo etc are just not consistent enough form e.

I think it depends on the team. Walker with a top team who are win ready and very well managed but trippier in any other team where he will cover far more than his position and lead/ influence/ inspire other team

Trippier is by far the best english right back currently and if you have a problem with that you are blinded by club loyalties, it's not even a debate. He maybe even the best in the world thats debatable.

His first touch is glorious. I was sat behind him at one point against Palace where someone pinged a 40 yard diag out to him and he took a touch and killed it dead while not even looking at the ball. He was looking up the pitch when he received and trapped it and instantly played a ball up the line for Longstaff.
There is loads to admire about him but that touch man, that touch 👌

Trippier is the 2nd best signing our owners made, without Eddie Howe none of this would be possible and those living outside the northeast just don’t see or hear what this man and his staff do, it really is remarkable when you think about it, it’s no fluke just look at what this man has done and achieved with still a number of players from our championship years!

There is no understating just how important a signing he has been for us. Slotted in perfectly at a time when we were almost guaranteed relegation, and has led us from there to where we are now. Just a phenomenal player, and already setting himself in stone as a Newcastle legend 🖤🤍
To me he is our best signing of the new era. Our only world class player, bruno making a case for himself. He has such an aura; never panics under pressure, has a touch that is second to none and I don't think that's talked about enough. Obviously his passing is unreal but I think his leadership is his most valuable asset. I still think he's underrated outside of Newcastle.
The biggest bargain Newcastle could of bought. I wish he was still 25! He's a pleasure to watch at SJP.

I was winding up the Spurs fan based on that tweet JLA read out. For me Yedlin was bang average but quick as owt so he could make up for mistakes. He also was a very positive character so very likeable. Had a lot of time for him at NUFC but he was limited and needed to be upgraded on as we moved up the table.@@ilcorvo9559

You have to remember, Howe and Trippier go way back. Howe signed him for Burnley! I’m sure Eddie visiting Madrid was key, but they worked together way back in 2012 when Trips had left city’s academy.

There are countless players from clubs across the country that have left a club and if you look into, a minority of fans have (rightly or wrongly) voiced their opinion on that player on social media only to look silly later. I'm glad that you did acknoweldge that not all Spurs fans felt the same way, but I really dont feel there was any need to bring up any negative comments that were aimed at him at the time. He's a brilliant player lets just focus on that.
I feel it is relevant because he is talking about his transformation from that time at Spurs (and his subsequent dropping from the England squad + not being rated by Spurs) to where he is now.

I think he had heard rumours that the board (Levy) was looking to offload him. And as much as he felt it didn’t affect his play, it did.
I feel for him in that regard, it’s hard to give 100% when you know the club owners don’t want you. But I reiterate, I wouldn’t pin it on a few negative comments.
I thought that, most Spurs fans I know acknowledge he had an under par season but so did most and they were sad to see him go.
The whole Howe Simeone thing is way overblown, Eddie said himself he went and watched a single days training, don't think he even spoke with Simeone while he was there.
Trippier's experience living abroad has also allowed him to help new players joining the squad to integrate and feel welcome, particularly the foreign players - this should not be undervalued, it's contributing to the current success. He's just class in every way.
We have so many great Right Backs but Trippier is actually also England's best Left Back!
I think that's why he's so underrated as a Right Back........The competition at that position is insane right now and he's equally as good on the other wing so tends to play on the Left for England.
Remember that he was stuck behind Kyle Walker at Spurs - Levy let Walker go for dumb reasons as well!
Walker is 33 now and STILL Man City's and England's {yes mainly because Reese James is always injured and Trent's seen as a liability in defence} first choice Right Back!
Before Trent and James came along there was a push for Walker to be played further up the wing with Trippier behind him for England remember.

The most exciting thing about Trippier is i genuinely think hes a plsyer who doesnt need pace. He uses his brain to defend, and his brain to attack. Using one twos he doesnt need to beat players 1v1 going forward and using positioning he avoids getting run past in defence.
Long story short i genuinely think were going to see this level from Trippier for another 4-5 years.

Further thought on why I think Newcastles fixture list is a good thing. Last year, with no European football, Howe could spend a week planning the game plan, which was usually spot on. But to be the best you have to focus more on yourself and let your opponent have a game plan to worry about you. With less time, Newcastle seem as if every game is approached the same way now, no matter the opposition.
Trent is a liability in defence but an exceptional player going forward in a midfield sort of role.
For that reason Trippier has the edge. I might possibly opt for Walker for a cup final but it would be close

Trippier is the best right back in the world right now. He is way better defensively than Trent, Hakimi and whoever else you wanna put forward and just as good going forward.
Most assists in the prem from right back. He is unbelievable and must start for England.

I was gutted he left, but he was crap that season. There were so many other things going wrong in the squad that it was hard to pinpoint blame to any one person, but keeping Aurier and Dier and letting him go was such an obvious mistake to anyone with half a footballing brain, so not Daniel Levy.

Liverpool fan here so I love Trent, however to be completely honest what I would say is:
Trent is a better all-round player & Trent's scope or ceiling is higher than Trippier's, however Trippier is a better right back, like Trent is very unconventional & that's part of what makes him so brilliant, but Trippier is better at some of the skills right backs need to have traditionally.
Would you rather have:
1- Messi material player that make XGI of 1.5 per 90 who plays 1/2 the season or
2- good player that makes XGI of 0.8 per 90 who plays full season ?
That is the comparison between Tripps, Trent and James.

The reason why Spurs fans werent the most upset by Trippier leaving was because after the highs of the 2018 world cup he had a really poor season where it felt like he wanted to take every set piece and was wasteful in attack. And with our lack of midfield in the 2018/19 season he looked very suspect defensively as well

Said at the time that Tottenham selling Trippier was an awful mistake. So many were convinced he was crap, just goes to show how volatile and reactive (and wrong) fans can be.
