    An interesting game nonetheless!

Literally watched this video today, then played my third-ever classical game on LiChess (I usually play Blitz & Rapid) and had THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN TO ME! We played a Ruy Lopez - Exchange. He didn't see a tactic and went down a Knight for a pawn in the opening. Then halfway through the middlegame started going offline during EVERY SINGLE one of his moves (never during my move). I asked: "Why do you keep disconnecting?". He said, "Sorry, ma English bad. Bad internet here.". His latency was green the whole game. Kept doing it after grinding out of a lost position in to a slightly better position, so I asked again: "Why do you keep disconnecting ONLY during your turns?". He changed is mind now and said: "Sorry, chatting to a friend on another screen.". Eventually he mated me. I analysed the game afterward and from the precise moment he started going offline, EVERY SINGLE move was Line 1 of Stockfish with 0 inaccuracies, 0 mistakes and 0 blunders. I said: "Your moves are suddenly quite suspicious so I am lodging this game with the moderators". He quickly turned quite aggressive in chat, so I left.

The idea of using it in these rated long or short format games against another human is just cowardly. What does one gain by this? Even if Black hadn't been using a computer, it seems to me Eric would still have been asking for trouble with *11.f4?!*
The king is still in the center, and White weakens the e3-square at a time when it's easy for Black to attack and not easy for White to defend.

  • @slapmyfunkybass

At 11:05 he mucks up with the knight, getting it trapped. I doubt an engine would do that or would deliberately play for e3. Taking e3 is the natural move as you’re going to lose the knight anyway. I think he just got lucky with the centre pawns, though his endgame was pretty impressive.

  • @jeffgreen3376

If this is your favorite opening, then you should have your variations memorized, Eric. lol London System players seem to think that the opening plays itself, but the move order is critical in each variation. Also, attacking on the kingside isn't always the best plan. For example, 5. Bg3 is not the best move in this variation, according to Stockfish (possibly because a kingside attack is not warranted). 10. Qb1 is an inaccuracy. The threat on the h7 pawn, after Qb1, can be stopped by g6 or h6. The queen also blocks in your rook on a1. Better would have been Qf3 or 0-0. 13. Ke2 was the game-losing blunder though, due to f6. The best move there was actually Bf4, although it looks dangerous. 13. Bf4 g5 14. h3 would have been fine for white. After 13. Ke2 f6, if you prevent the black queen and rook from coming in, then you allow the pawns to advance and vice versa. Don't feel bad though, because your opponent was using a computer to make his moves. Most of his moves matched Stockfish's #1 choices. An 1800 human player doesn't play like this.

I have a pet line that ends on around move 25 with a bishop sac on h6 and then mate 2 moves later. Black plays reasonable locking moves until its too late. The computer evaluates my game with 0 0 0 errors. I'm not even that good so I'm sure it happens with stronger players quite often. I will bet money that Eric has at least 50 games on lichess with 0 0 0 errors.

@@TeSp00kie1 no man. That's a miniature you memorized, that's reasonable. This is a long full game, no one memorizes so many computer moves. If Ivanchuk can miss a mate in 1, an 1800 player cannot be perfect

Around the 26 min mark you opt to sacrifice your knight however queen to e3 was better. The pawn on g2 is a trap that you didnt see obviously. Cuz if he takes you move your rook to g1 thus trapping the queen.

  • @ondrejtoman7433

I would say that in opening playing Nf3, Ne5 over Bd3 is inaccuracy, because after b6 you dont want to play Ne5. Better plan is just push e4 to respond his weakening of light squares. Or atleast its in my opening therory this way. Well not saying it would help against bot tho. Never mind keep up good work.

TOPRATED was marked on lichesss "This account violated the Lichess Terms of Service" Hasn't played in two years - undoubtedly changed his handle and is just cheating under a different name. EVERY move from 12...Ng4! to 30...Qd3# was an engine first choice (Komodo, DeepFritz, FatFritz, Houdini, Rybka, New Engine, Stockfish, etc). Eric was right about 13.Ke2 being too optimistic (he could have played 13.Bf4 after all, then if ...g5 14.h3 and White is fine). But who counts on playing against an engine?
