  • We visited the Château de Meung-sur-Loire in September 2023 and it is one of the best chateaus we have visited. Nestled in the picturesque Loire Valley of France, this stunning landmark boasts centuries of history, art, and architectural marvels. With its towering turrets, elegant gardens, and rich heritage, Château de Meung-sur-Loire is a must-visit destination for all ages and particularly history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, and nature lovers alike. We highly recommend it.
    It is a castle with several different styles. The remains of 12th century towers stand side by side with an 18th century facade giving it a slight air of Versailles. Liberated by Joan of Arc after her victory at Orleans, the castle became the prestigious residence of the bishops of Orléans until the French Revolution. You’ll be amazed by a visit dedicated to everyday life: more than 20 furnished rooms, 2,000 objects in action and an odorama trail await you for a real immersion into the heart of castle life! Your visit will take you from the superb attic to the dark underground passageways, from the magnificent neoclassical chapel to the 18th-century bathrooms. Follow in the footsteps of Louix XI, François I, Joan of Arc and the poet François Villon, who lived in the château’s prisons.
