Real is supposed to have 2 syllables, "re-" and "-al".
But a lot of people (not sure if majority of any region) just pronounce it like "reel", which just has one.

Them having a full-blown argument over the word real being 2 syllables while Laurie fully said "music" in one of the rounds is peak NRB humour 😂
Also, the how many syllables site they used doesn't account for different dialects and such. Also it has reel as 1 syllable. All this to say language is confusing. But not so confusing that any argument can be made for Music be glossed over

The point of the game though is it’s up to the club holder to bonk them if they make a mistake. If they miss it, you get away with it. (It’s why it’s a great party game)

The new intro feels amazing! I adored the other intros but this one has such a personal touch that I love

Edit: Oh hey it's my chance to be That Rules Guy In The Comments™ for the first time! When you're the card reader and someone gets the word, you're allowed to say "Yes! [Word]", and then you're allowed to say that word when going for the 3 Points section. So if your word was "Menu" and the 3 point was "Breakfast Menu", once someone guesses Menu you can say "Yes, Menu. Now menu that you get at start of day" to get them to guess Breakfast Menu
I'm in the same wheelhouse. It's even more surprising that I'm only lukewarm to exploding kitten's other works, this one is fun, simple, and fast paced enough that a bunch of board game nerds still find it interesting.
I believe you are only allowed to do that if the word itself is only one syllable. Them getting the word voids the 'don't say the word on the card' rule. but doesn't void the 'only speak in one syllable rule' which is why menu wasn't allowed

@@JadeNeomaPerhaps? In the instruction manual, the example they use is "Octopus", and it shows a crudely drawn person going "Yes, Octopus!". That made me interpret it that you can now say that word no matter the syllables. Like it's a bunch of cavemen trying to remember a word, and once someone reminds them, it's added to their vocabulary. That's at least how I've played it

they were fine with wheel being one syllable, the same website they used that says real is 2 syllables says that wheel has 1. both words can have 1 or two, depends on dialect and even within the same speakers' usage is can differ with context and emphasis
It's true if you actually enunciate the word. Most people say "real" like it's a homophone for "reel", which is one syllable.
I almost never comment but I have to just to say your new intro is FANTASTIC! I know having to rebrand so soon again must be tough but I just wanted to say you guys seem to be doing a great job!

THE NEW INTRO IS AMAZEBALLS! The artist did an impeccable job!
Tom's in particular gave me a good chuckle, because in a home brew game of BOTC 'The Tom' token is represented by two trees, which he found rather amusing, and now here he's is decked out in a background of leaves. Clearly a man of nature.
I loved all the jokes they did when players were silenced in don't mess with Cthulhu - "Brooke, say nothing if you want Sully to leave you for Adam", "Laurie, say nothing if you think all your Blood on the Clocktower losses were deserved", "Tom, say nothing if you hate trees"
The new intro is my favorite so far! Although the walk through draughts will always have a little nook in my heart

There are two pronunciations of "real":
/ɹi:l/ (1 syllable) or /'ɹi:.jəl/ (two syllables). Both are correct and the first one (to me) is more natural. /'ɹi:.jəl/ is only if you really wanna stress the word.
The new table is really great for having it feel like everyone is equally involved, and in general just looks cool.

NRB has really come into it's own with the new studio and the new animation package! It's amazing. I thought it was gonna be hard to get the same cozyness you got from the smaller space at draughts, but this video feels like the old ones.

Haven't even watched the video yet, but LOVE the new intro sequence. The animation is excellent and love seeing the silhouettes of all the crew. It really adds a freshness and renewed quality to the show. And for me personally, it helped me forget that I was missing... anything.

Real can be one syllable or two, depending on how you pronounce it. REE-uhl would be two syllables, as Sully said, but I think Holly pronounces it REEL (I slowed the video to 0.25 speed to double check) and that is just one syllable. She didn't get bonked anyway, but just saying. Holly is also right that if you pronounced shocked in the poetic shockèd way, it's two syllables (SHOCK-ehd, with an added 'eh' sound), but otherwise it's only one (SHOCKT, with no 'eh' sound). So basically what I'm saying is, Holly knows her syllables 😎
Yeah, considering just about everyone in this video has a different accent, syllable disagreements were pretty much inevitable. Holly was totally safe on her "real" pronunciation
I definitely pronounce "real" with one syllable, so this is definitely the sort of shit which makes this game less than ideal. :(
