Great review, I think it is the best Bass rod at that price. The Major Craft Skyroad is a great rod for a bit more money. I am a tackle tart so have a Tenryu Ultimate one and a Shimano Stradic CI4+ 3000 size filled with Varivas Avani Sea Bass Max Power PE in 14lb. May I ask what braid you are using?
you prolly dont give a shit but if you are bored like me during the covid times then you can stream pretty much all of the latest movies on instaflixxer. Have been watching with my girlfriend during the lockdown xD
I was with you until the small ring sizes, I like to keep a clip on my line and I find using something like the Gemini Genie Clip makes passing the line through the rod eyes a lot quicker without putting on my reading glasses. I settled on the Penn Rampage II Bass Rod and I selected the 9 foot rod. I thought with it being a three piece rod would make for problems but far from it I'm very happy with the rod. It comes in a cheap rod bag but it also has a had transport tube with a carry handle which I tend to leave in the car boot but it makes transporting less of a problem. Once again I love your films and please keep them coming. cheers.
*Used this rod recently on a river hike in NH. It performed beautifully **enjoyable.fishing** recommend as I had hoped it would, on a whole heap of river smallies using tiny torpedoes and tubes.*
Hi Matt, great advice as ever as I recently did a lot of research and asking around for budget setup to my more expensive Canadian lure setup. My budget was 100 gbp, Unfortunately, the current Cobalt 902 price has gone up a fair bit since you made this video. However, I recently was watching a guy flicking out a metal lure waaaay out and asked him what he was using. Turns out the rod was a Nomura 7'10" 8-35grm and he was casting a 30grm toby. His reel was a SG2 3000. Rod and reel was 100 gbp, so budget was achieved. Since buying the same rod and reel I am having some great results and it is completely effortless to reach significant distances if required. Fuji guides and reinforced carbon too.
I use 3000 for 7/8 ft rod and 5000 for 9/10 ft rod I have a mixture of £25 to £600 lure rods for different types of areas at the end of the day the fish doesn’t know what rod and reel you use just the food you offer so it comes down to how much you want to spend and your knowledge of fishing and understanding your fish your targeting plus it takes time and experience to become a reasonable fisherman but every day is a school day tight lines
Thanks for talking about the reel size and the Shimano you use, it's given me a bit more info so I can select the right reel for my 9'6" Tailwalk. Think I am turning into a tackle tart - we have come a long way since the home made rods ( made from ww2 tank aerials ! ) we used to use in the 1960's. Mine had a solid glass fibre top section , I remember having to pour Ensus oil into the butt section to stop it rusting.
You don’t Need to spend silly money to have a good. Bass spinning rod! I use an older but still very good shimano 2500 reel and a 8 ft Leeda spinning rod and it suits me ok!
I have a hand made rod that is in perfect working condition size is 12/16 feet ..with a brass trout fly reel in perfect condition the only thing i had to change was the line .As my Grandad used String coated with creosote . Over the years the string became too weak it became easy to snap . and the rod is over 75 yrs old .. made of cane and cork and has brass fittings ..

richard godfrey I’m with you on that. When fitting a leader I try to get it they perfect length - not long enough that it hinders casting and short enough that I don’t need the knot to go through the 1st guide. Somewhere between 3/4ft
@@lineartapes9664 spot on with the leader, with a short leader when fishing in the dark, you can hear the knot hitting the top ring and you can stop reeling . check out the nasci reel on youtube they are a proper salt water reel with seals.

Hi Matt being new to bass fishing I brought this rod a couple of years ago fishing off the Kent coast low water surface lures mainly I’m looking for an upgrade rod have you any recommendations thanks John
I've noticed in a fair few of your videos you use this rod, I'd this your go to rod? I'm trying to decide between this rod, hto lure game and maximus high energy
All good solid choices - I’d guess that the maximum has fastest action but haven’t tried it in anger. Your right the colbalt is my choice and has been superb just the greening of rings. I wonder with those three stock levels and looks will help your decision
Hi. I started lure fishing this year and im hooked on it. I did manage my first bass this Saturday on my light set up after wading out in shallow water. I was wondering if you still have this rod and what are your thoughts after using it in anger. Im after a more dedicated beach lure rod for getting some distance with the larger lures and the distance lures. Would this rod fit my requirements. Thanks in advance and keep the vids coming i think they are great.
@@SaltwaterAngler Well i bought one came yesterday and it really looks like a nice rod. I can't wait to get out with it. Just need to find some rocks or a beach out the way of these northerlies. Might end up down Eastbourne way at some point in the next few days. Cheers for all your input.
I was tempted to get an hto nebula earlier this year but held off and carried on with my 8'6 okuma octana. Then browsed ebay and found a grauvell teklon concept spin 8' for a bargain price (used maybe once or twice but mint) so jumped on that, not used it yet but it looks and feels quality. Paired it with a shimano aernos 4000 i had lurking and it feels a good match. What is the main reason you stick to the smaller reels (2500 or 3000) is it line capacity? Or weight or a bit of both? Only ask as i personally find even 4000 size small.
Do you still have this rod if so is there anything else you have learned about it since this review. I desperately need a new rod 😂 thank you for the review 🙏
Yes still have it it’s my go to. No issues whatsoever. There’s so many good lure rods out there I’ve also been using the savage gear 4 piece rod 30gramme. That’s been great too.
The guide on that rod are very small indeed. It is almost like the made the rod initially as a baitcaster and when the changed the reel seat to make a spinning rod they forgot to change the guide to bigger ones
@@SaltwaterAngler I have one particular rod at home and for some reason the leader knot was getting stuck in the frame of the tip eye. In the end I reduced the diameter of my leader and don't have the same problem.

Oh how the rich do live lol ENTRY LEVEL is for folk who are not really sure if they want to or will serious about something I think so basically £80 is not entry level IMO.
Nope its an entry level Rod - albeit at the higher end -We are very aware of budget here on the saltwater angler channel. Often less expensive rods suggested. There is a huge jump in quality up to 80 quid. I cant recommend the sub £40 rods really because a fish feels soggy when caught and the rings rust and pop out. False economy , if you can suggest something half the price that will suit someone not make them end up hating fishing then let me know.
So you don't tell us your location for bass?! That is abit selfish...I make sure you get licence when you go to canaries from now on...I will make sure you all get checked in spain....ECT. goes both ways.
Generally most U. K Anglers like to share with other Anglers. This channel in particular has many instances of sharing marks and this includes bass catches too. We have 1000s of hours including postcodes and marks and yet I've received aggressive messages for telling people about marks in Devon for instance. The issue here is not so much other Anglers knowing a Good Bass spot but rather Gill netters clearing out a mark seen on a UA-cam video. So I make no apologies for not sharing a limited amount of Bass marks for this reason. Fishing is a 'choose your own adventure' and like many specialist bass Anglers far more experienced than me I'd advocate getting out, finding your own marks and enjoying the reward of hard work. But feel free to enjoy the videos on saltwater angler that show you exactly where to fish. We have some on Hastings pier, beach and Seaford plus reports from Chesil and North Wales. Tight lines and big love from a fellow European angler.
DZ Malekvali Wow, someone doesn’t want to share a bass spot on UA-cam, so you’re mad? You must be really fun at parties. And so what if they check his license? He probably has one when he’s in spain.
