      They're going to low ball you on the price and if you do sell them they'll sell the game on their site for way way mor than what they bought it for. I know that practice is common place to make profit but dk oldies is on a whole other level of scamming people.

    I can't even tell you how glad I am to see you back on the UA-cam scene. When you came back a few months ago with a video but didn't put out another for a while, I thought maybe you decided you didn't have your heart into Youtubing anymore. Hands down my favorite game hunter... hope you stay on it strong but whatever you decide and however long you decide to put shit out that's your call and I'm cool with it. I didn't even know about dkoldies their buying prices are pretty good by the looks of it but their selling prices are crazy. But if people will pay that kind of price than it's up to them. As far as whatnot goes I have been on there as a buyer only for about 2 months and most of the games I have been looking for were way to high for what they are worth. Their fanbase runs up the price and if you comment about it you get price shamed by their channel moderators. so i'm not a big fan of whatnot every now and then you might catch something slipping up but usually not. But to each their own and if it works for them fine. Thanks for another great video and I will have to check out your discord

    • @Renebean

      I can see the shaming you mention happening. It does seem to be fan driven from what I'm seeing. Like I say in the video "you're paying for the experience of it". If the viewers are happy from a majority standpoint, I see nothing wrong with it, mostly. I get where you're coming from though.

    Yea man I don't know about the Whatnot deal man. Most of the UA-cam folks on there began with humble channels that said they hate resellers and scalpers. Whatnot is the way of the future. It's like the modern QVC. I think it's cool to see your favorite UA-camr find good stuff and then have a interactive way of selling it to their fans. It's getting flooded with sellers so it will be harder and harder to have a big following without being a UA-camr. Most items I see go for ebay prices but there's also alot of great deals to be found.

    • @Renebean

    I have yet to try DKOldies. Several people in your discord have made a pretty penny and I'm still on the fence about them.
    And on Whatnot it is weird. I do like that live selling concept as I thought of a similar method. It feels moreso like a cross between TikTok and ebay. It's a platform I would not sell on personally because I don't like my voice.

    I like what not. You can get deals on there but some times some auctions are full of fans who overpay for items. They want to support their favorite youtubers or have an item from their collection. Nothing wrong with that. I just stay out the way when that goes on. You should definitely do it. I would just keep it mostly to harder to sell items you don't care about making a ton on until you get enough followers to ensure you get the right price for those easier to sell items. You also don't have to start at a dollar on items you can't afford to take a loss.

    • @Renebean
      @Renebean  2 роки тому +2

      For sure, if you wanna support someone you watch, go for it. I can see it not being so fun for the smaller people out there which is why I'm saying it's got that fan factor going for it.

      the great thing about ebay is you are 100 percent gonna get your money back with a situation like that. If you ordered a perfect condition Ice blue n64 as you state, that's what should arrive. So once a month they do a retail resell event where the larger and sometimes smaller channels will do a “giveaway” type deal. So if the boxed n64 games sells now avg for 600$ but the retail price was 49.99 they put a buy it now price of 50$ and first one to snag it wins it. That may be what you’re referring to on the marketing. They did probably 7-8k in TMNT stuff and god knows how much in boxed n64 stuff this month. They gave away a sculptures cut for 50$. It’s a promotional thing for sure but it gets people interested and on the app. There are def deals to be had. I’ve done 2 live shows and on t vintage clothing I can tell you it sells for a little less but I moved over 100 items in less than 3 hours… soooo? I think the issue is specifically with retro games and the way the sellers are going gambling style “win a spin@ if your bud is over 100$ and people spend 140$ on a game selling for 75$ for a spin in a wheel that may give you a 1-10 chance to win something worth more money. I can say it added a nice 15-20% boost in sales for me the last 2 weeks.

    in my opinion, i think ordering from DK is fine if you know what youre paying for. they make sure its clean, running and in good condition. I got my n64 from them for 110. ik it is overpriced but i knew i was getting a great condition console. it just depends if you are willing to pay for the guarantee. whereas ebay its more of a risk. Both are great imo just depends on what you are looking for

      always remember as a buyer on ebay, you have 100% money back guarantee if you aren't happy. Ebay treats buyers very well. It's extremely rare that you aren't going to get the item pictured or described in an ebay listing. If you do, you still are getting fully refunded. No risk involved as a buyer. I'm not sure of dk's return policy but I bet ebay's is better. If I can get that n64 on ebay is the same condition for half the price with a money back guarantee, that's where I'm shopping.

    I've seen so many UA-cam people promoting whatnot that I decided to check it out. My observation is that it's resellers buying from popular UA-cam resellers at retail or higher. I have heard a few say on UA-cam things like "I want to support my fellow reseller." This is the type of thing you see in the corporate world where who you know helps you climb the ladder and make more money. So if I buy an overpriced hat from you, maybe you'll give me a shout out on your channel and send viewers my way. I think a lot of UA-cam resellers make more doing videos than actually reselling. I dont do videos, so me trying to sell on whatnot isn't going to work. That's my thoughts.

    I have sold things to dk oldies but have never purchased anything. Depending on what you have and what they pay it can be an easy way to offload stuff quickly. In terms of whatnot I don't care to use it personally it already has a reputation for items to sell over going rates so I am not interested. That $50 starting bid thing reminds of a sleazy used car salesman it's disingenuous.

    • @Renebean

      I completely feel that $50 starting bid thought. It's made worse by the "it's only $50" advertising that I'm seeing people do.

    Whatnot is youtubers using their subscriber base for profit. Yes it is another selling platform but use it respectfully. I have seen people convert to buy it now sales which is a good thing. Some dont mention though that if you use their link for a free $10 and you spend it they get $10. Its ok if you are upfront about the kick backs. Guarantee there is a lot more kick backs that are not being disclosed. Once the trust is gone it never returns. I have stopped watching channels because of it.

    I'm not really okay with what not anymore.. after seeing a certain person sell a loose pokemon red and it sold for 279$ !! Thats taking advantage of ur fans, I know they didn't make price but come on u don't think people are bidding just to hear said person says there screen name and get a item from someone they watch .. its crazy.. I rarely see anything sell for retail or below..

    Yeah I saw that every game on whatnot is $50. Very misleading and done by and done by someone that doesn't need to say such a thing because they are already extremely popular. I have bought a couple mystery boxes on there which is a fun experience but usually not worth the money unless you get lucky. I was also drunk bidding which is never good lol.

    • @Renebean
      @Renebean  2 роки тому

      I definitely don't like being mislead as well. Mystery boxes while as you said, can be fun, are usually a terrible purchase. It's usually a way for someone to unload stuff that's not wanted while gliding between terms.

    checkout some videos i made about some of our favorite personalities who shall remain nameless, they admit openly, or not in so many words....what not is a huge sponsor that pays them to sell on their app, even to the point of giving them payroll to buy things to resell on what not. Then these youtubers lie and say its for the community, not when you make $12000 off selling mystery boxes that are valued at $200 and your selling them for $400. It has nothing to do with the community or retro but its a persona/influencer spin they have to solely make money. And the marks and viewers think these people are their friends and family.....when all the youtubers care about is pure $$$$$ that is all. Cause why? Its their job, they dont have real life jobs.

      That's not good! I've seen a few people do it, no real reference to anyone. It's hard to stay away from potential exposure and deals if they're shown to ya. No hate to anyone that gets there but there does seem to be some darkness in the community I'm hearing about.

    My local retro shop buys Gameboy colors for $35, dk buys them for $48. But my local shop sells them for $80, cleaned/refurbished. Dk sells them for $160. You are only getting 13 dollars more, but it's ridiculous how much dks want to make in profit lol

      I feel, If they got the fan base and recognition, let em... I'm not saying them or your local shop is in the right but your local shop advertises to that vicinity while they advertise to the world. DK imo is not the best place to buy from as far as getting a better deal elsewhere, but when it comes to selling......I got a video coming up about my first transaction with them. Some good, some bad..

    The only positive feedback you will read or hear about regarding DK Oldies is from their fanbase. Don't ask me why they are loyal knowing their business practices but they are. They are not good for the retro community. I'd encourage anyone whether you are a buyer or seller to avoid them for the betterment of the community. They are exploiting a cherished hobby for many.

    If you are referring to retro Rick with the $50 stuff. Then pay attention.... It's buy it now. And it's $50. For some high end games. It's a way to give back to the community who supports him and his channel. You should try to give back to your community every once in a while.

    • @Renebean
      @Renebean  2 роки тому +2

      You may be new to the channel. I didn't realize Rick did it too. He's a cool dude, I had him on a few videos. As I'm understanding people are being compensated through promotion or payment, which isn't a bad thing for either parties. As far as giving back to the community, I do giveaways on my server without being compensated! The video is not meant to be negative and I have no issue with anyone making money. It's a learning process for everyone involved.

      I never said they were Ricks personal games. I was saying that he did it with whatnot to give back to his community and his followers. I also never said you (renebean) didn't give back to your community, I was simply stating that if you have a large following it's just something you should do for them seeing as they are your supporters etc. I personally don't make content (yet) but I have helped people in retro rick's community and even Rick himself with tips from videos on things he missed and he has thanked me for pointing out.

I watch most people from seejayare to retro Rick and retro world and pixel game squad and all those guys Phoenix resale and you two etc. Not particularly a fan of collectors luck... But that's for personality reasons. I don't mean to seem like I am saying something negative about you at all. Or I wouldn't be subbed up!

    DKOldies used to be my go to along with FB back in 2016 or so. They used to have the best prices of any online seller. I remember getting Kolibri for the 32X for $30 back then. I've heard from people lately that their service has greatly changed and they have become worse than Lukie.
    I have a whatnot store to sell my duplicates. My first few shows I did before posting on YT or Social Media to try to get a natural following from scratch on whatnot to see how it would go. My first couple of shows I made quite a bit (probably around 80% value on the games), but my last few streams have been really bad. I've been having games go for only a dollar or two. I've slowed up my shows on there and I've been going back to the ebay route. The advantage to whatnot is that quick realtime listing where people can get in a bidding war, but the reach on other platforms is much better if you don't need a quick instant sale. Most people on whatnot are either there to support big youtubers or to get a really good deal. As an example, I tried auctioning off a Sonic R manual for the Saturn starting at $20 and received zero bids and the feedback was that it was too much for that manual, which is basically half of it's market value and what I feel like would be a steal for anyone. I like being able to engage with everyone live, but after the fees, I feel like ebay / fb / targeting gaming groups is still a better option for me.
