"An asteroid 10 times the size of fucking Ulysses in Ace Combat is coming towards Earth but everyone acts like that's just another Monday and everything is fine :)" Very fun video Bui, shame the game was a let down considering what you experienced with the previous games you featured. Y'know, I was saddened a bit when you uploaded the Katawa Shoujo video, because I couldn't watch it and give you the view without giving myself spoilers for a good story. Good thing I don't need to worry about that for this one.
I thought it was beautiful in it's own weird, distant, tragic way, like an old cartoon you used to love that, upon rewatching it, you realize it was never that good to begin with, and that the golden tint of your childhood kind of just got painted over the whole thing as you forgot about all the little details. except that golden tint was the outstanding art and music, that along with the experience of snoot game, helped cast a sort of echo of what could have been in a better timeline.
As a trans person, I really wanted to be able to go into GVH and say, "at least it's good representation" but it hardly even does that 💀 it's clear anyone with passion for the characters and the story either got fired for writing questionable articles, or got completely burned out. So we end up with this, nothing burger with a side order of wasted potential.
the annoying thing about the lead writer, is the aforementioned article, was making fun of what it was discussing, it wasn’t even endorsing it which makes the decision to let them go more confusing. also ayy, fellow trans person
@@notenoughmemes1847 I think they were trying to avoid getting 'cancelled' , or she was let go for other reasons. Since the only official statement I read from anyone at KO-OP was something like "she was fired long ago".
@@StarBlue42 Still annoys me they decided to rewrite everything the original writer had planned instead of just building off of it, I’ve read the leaked info regarding the first scripts and it sounded like a far more interesting game with various different features, multiple characters you would play as, none of the fluff of LnL, and I believe the potential of the meteor missing in the supposed good endings.
It would have been funny if it had an ending where everyone became so hostile toward and distant from each other that the oncoming destruction leads them into a fit of gratuitous, blood-rivers tier ultra-violence, only for the meteor to end up missing.
I'm in the editing phase of my own GVH review at the moment--I don't usually like to watch reviews of games I plan to review myself, but I wanted to make an exception this time. I'm glad I did. I think you brought a lot of sincere opinions and balanced criticism off the cuff while you were playing without succumbing to the temptation of being hyperbolic. Great work. If you're taking suggestions for visual novels to play, I'd put forward that you look into Scarlet Hollow.
Man, I was wondering where you went for the past months and you were working a lot on the gvh review. Hot damn, you were working your ass off given time and irl stuff.
13:13 Yeah this game is just overall disappointing and has many weird decisions like how this scene you get with sage if you take them seriously ONCE but they are still the furthest from you in the relationship chart but that exclusive trish scene you got (lucky) was so hard to get for most people because you had to basically side with her for like 97% of the "game". Two rewrites, hundreds of people and millions of taxpayers dollars later and you get this painfully mediocre game but wani was made by a dozen dudes, zero dollars and similar dev drama and STILL turned out fantastic. What a wild timeline.
@oscarborjas2833 well agreeing with her is what a lot of the options give you in the game unlike say rosa(raul) or sage. With thise 2 you only get like 1 non L&L choice to get closer to them and the rest of it is in those awful vn sections AND they are mutually exclusive since they want to go to different areas. Good job though, I guess, since the game is clearly trying to push you to get closer to trish
@@Callard22 Thanks dude, it was just weird hearing people having problems with getting the Trish cutscene when I got it on my first try and I’m trying to get a refund on PlayStation
I just hope GBVH not really landing at all doesn't mess things up for other indie teams who ask for canadian govt. funding. Then again they seem to have a very warped vision on that as darkest dungeon 1 didn't get approved to get that funding and GBVH did
Man, you are awesome. You are really good at... Expressing yourself, I guess? It's actually a talent to convey your feelings through words alone and you truly nail it. My personal novel recommendation would be "Slay the Princess". It's a lot darker than what you have played so far, but it has incredible professional voice acting and artstyle and writing is fantastic. Though, it will probably devastate you, but, as the starting screen states, "This is a love story". It will also get a major update in autumn, so you may want to just have it in the back of your mind until then
It's so sad and disappointing with how shallow and undercooked this game is. It really is depressing when a free parody had a deeper and more meaningful story than your A game
It's not even that the game is bad... is that it's boring. It has nothing to say and the characters are cardboard cutouts with the most innofensive personalities ever. It's a shame really.
This game suffers from a severe case of "millenial writing": just about when they are about to say something serious and touching, a character says stupid shit out of nowhere (because "funny" and "unexpected") Snoot Game meanwhile made me laugh on numerous ocassions, the jokes were actually unexpected (and obviously, they didnt make a character say a shitty joke during the most traumatic event of their life, lmao)
A visual novel I would recommend is a VN called YOU and ME and HER. It's one of the best VNs i ever played and if you do play, bring a notebook or something like that with you if you go for fully beating the game.
The Mailman is angry because Bui delivered once again. To me, the game was fun, the soundtrack is great, the visuals...could be better but not really bad either, the animations and characters, pretty underwhelming and even bad sometimes, I hate how plastic and dead they all look, pretty much all the time. I'm not saying add a lot of animations to all the characters to make them feel alive, but those simple stares at one another with blank faces deprived of any kind of emotions is...frustrating, also the humor is quite mid I say, but nothing really important. Overall, is quite sad too, not being able to so anything to their inevitable deaths is just annoying I guess, the very limited endings are another bad point, how almost nothing changes is, yet again, frustrating. Reed was a great character, probably with the best voice acting, specially with the one scene, and maybe Sage to, but I still dunno why or how is one of the fan favorite. Anyhow, I think is a good experience, not great, not horrible, is just there. Also, maybe in some another reality, GVH and SG did the fusion to become an outstanding visual novel and all it's aspects, and I must admit, with those final moments of good times between friends, I got emotional.
I'm a little sad that they rewrote this game, Naser supposed to play the "bad guy" like Trish was in Snoot, and the relationship between characters was fleshes out more. I don't think it gonna be good, but at least it not as boring at this one.
Honestly, now that you’re playing more visual novels, I would highly recommend Kentucky Route Zero if you haven’t already heard of it, as it runs very similar to a VN as a point-and-click adventure game. It’s a bit long, being 5 separate acts, so i’m not sure if that would work with ur format of smaller-act, self contained VN’s like Snoot Game and Wani, but it’s an amazing, tearjerking story about debt, regret, the “American dream”, community, and finding hope, and I think you’d really like if you haven’t played it yet. Even if u don’t make a video/videos on it, it’s an incredible experience. Anyways, keep up the amazing work, Bui! Edit: also quick note, but if you like games with solid, diegetic music, KRZ has some great old-school folk music
Dude...Trust me...Snoot game and Wani seem to actually deliver the message but the rest of the VNs...are kind of...ehh. And man...I hope you got your money's worth...
May I reccomend a Visual Novel that will f"ck you up in an entirely different way than the ones you've known so far? I reccomend Slow Damage. Far more dramatic, but really good, trauma material!
Damm, just saw all your VN videos and I have to say you got a knack for reviewing/first thoughts, the editing is real nice and you know how to voice your thoughts, I hope you want to do more because I will be looking forward to it. Also if you want recommendations: while not exactly a VN but has elements from them: dangaronpa is very interesting and maybe something you'd like
I just want to explain some stuff about the asteroid that the writers just didn't get and just use it as an immortal MacGuffin. Asteroids when they start going into Earth's atmosphere, burn up and break apart, so even if it was 10 km at the start, it would be drastically smaller if not completely burned up by the time it got through, and also, 10 km, Believe it or not, isn't that big not when it comes to the scale of the Earth, sure, these dumbasses that didn't move out of the city are dead but other people on the rest of the planet are perfectly fine. Assuming they were in this world version of California or whatever, if they had just gone to the Midwest Mexico or Canada they would have been fine, held they probably wouldn't even have to go that far.
I'm currently sitting in hospital (all good now), just watched the Katawa Shoujo video and this one, great stuff again, excellent for killing time. It was nice going down memory lane with KS, haven't touched it since 2011. GBVH really is a disappointing experience. I think that's the word that pretty much everyone uses; it's clear something good COULD have been here, especially with all those random background scenes (that never fucking happened) at the end hinting at all these possibilities for character moments and maybe something actually happening, but yeah. Writing incompetence and a total inability to define what the story was even about, much less convey the moment to moment of whatever it was they wanted to say, totally rob it of any ability to... Be anything. Nothing happens. The story and game overall aren't even entertainingly bad or anything, it's just really dull and empty and pointless. All the effort put into it, which IS there, achieves nothing at all. The premise achieves nothing at all; all these teenage dinos have nothing better to be doing during the apocalypse than queuing up for a high school shoegaze band? Really? No one seems to give much of a shit about the world literally ending, yet they also kind of try to give a shit a bit, but it keeps not mattering even when they do. Just bizarre. And a full half of the runtime being for notDnD that also mostly doesn't go anywhere, bizarre. Just a waste of time really. Looking forward to seeing what you tackle next!
I find it beautifully ironic that the characters in Snoot Game, despite being cardboard cutouts, have more emotion and animated personalities than in this game.
From the reveal trailer, it seemed like they wanted the game to have a somber tone, but the lead writer was replaced, and the game was rewritten. My guess is that the rewrites tried to make the game more lighthearted. The jokes mostly come across as forced, probably because they weren't supposed to be there in the first place. The game really excels when it's being genuine, which isn't really when it's trying to be funny
who would win: a government-backed studio with 4 years of development time and budget, and was featured in front of hundreds of thousands of people at a massive video game show. or 4chan volunteers with 0 budget and a year of time? The answer may shock you! At least reed is still based in this game. and seeing how shit GVH is, lets you appreciate how kino snoot game is even more.
This game would have been better served without the apocalyptic ending. I feel the end of the world is too stressful of a concept to match this very grounded story largely about people dealing with their gender identity/sexuality issues. Perhaps it the whole thing was built more around familial drama, then it could have worked as a chill, relaxing game. There also is a conflict-bereftness to the dialogue, I think K0-0P was afraid to have unlikeable characters, and so no character realy does anything which causes conflict. Snoot Game handled this better by having consistent conflicts drive every story beat and scene (except for some of the good ending, which was a tad dull if you ask me) Despite my usual brash rightwing-ness, I like these characters and their voice performances and problems, I'm open to hearing about them. But outside of them occasionally expositing their household problems, it doesn't come up. Snoot Game was very wise to put at the center of the main conflict the familial drama, Goodbye Volcano High really could have served with a story and conflict built around family
I started thinking about how I would fix this game. What I thought of is maybe making the story last a month or even a year instead of a week. And let the player choose what they want to do before the world ends. Hang out with friends, do things with them, maybe the LnL sections can have actual RPG combat. And then I realized "Hey wait, isnt that just Persona?"
I can't hate this game. There's mostly just wasted potential in my opinion. Also without this game we wouldn't have Snoot Game or I Wani Hug That Gator. It's conflicting to say the least.
I'd recommend checking out Changeling Tale, Magi Trials and maybe Digimon Survive. Changeling Tale is nsfw, but its got some really good writing in it. Magi Trials is a fun magic school story. Digimon Survive is a great game, though I don't think they quite found the balance of tactical RPG and VN.
17:56 this is so me realizing that GVH fang turned out to have a romantic relationship with naomi. Like YEAH IM LOSING MY SHIT TOO Perhaps i may have treated the game a bit too harshly, afterall it is the catalyst that sparks the creation of snoot game which then develops into the wani game Overall rating 4.5/10 , it tried to be something but it failed miserably 😔
Honestly even though I knew how this game would’ve turned out, it’s just pretty sad to see GVH just have multiple “flash-in-the-pan” moments and then it just goes away. I agree that both Snoot Game and that Kotaku article severely affected the reputation of this game, and I tried seeing this game unbiased. But it’s just too damn hard not to see this game and just grimace at the fact that this could’ve been good. I’d personally say that it’s a 4.5/10 experience, just disappointing.
Welp, the whole Sage deal is rather one-sided. Noone dares to raise the topic of reality of trauma caused by transitioning operations, from psychological to physical, severity of which is mostly ommited and later grieved by the victims of such. Being deprived of any sexual joy and being unwanted and repulsive in the eyes of others (secretly of course, as noone shall speak up, with only casual sympathy and standardtised approval, all showy in nature) is immensly depressing. The only ones benefitting are those spreading such ideas and the whole surgical/farmacy industry. Their victims get hooked on variety of drugs to just chug along. Antideprasants being a standard measure, which is horrific, if you think about that deelpy. Not even talking about post-operaional complications and long-lasting effects.
Yup, people are being deceived to mutilate themselves. And the ones actively doing the deceiving in overwhelming majority happen to be jews. Their skewed up version of Torah, the Talmud, has six genders in it. Imagine that coincidence.
Skeptical of anything your saying considering the statistics point to a low detransition rate of 3-4% and very low regret rate for medically transitioning.

@@notenoughmemes1847 we were completely robbed 😭
@@StarBlue42 honestly, and the character stills I’ve seen were less fugly like they can be in multiple scenes of the final version of the game.
GBVH Makes you feel like your choices don't matter. Lmao
You know it’s a good day when Bui posts a new video
13:13 Yeah this game is just overall disappointing and has many weird decisions like how this scene you get with sage if you take them seriously ONCE but they are still the furthest from you in the relationship chart but that exclusive trish scene you got (lucky) was so hard to get for most people because you had to basically side with her for like 97% of the "game". Two rewrites, hundreds of people and millions of taxpayers dollars later and you get this painfully mediocre game but wani was made by a dozen dudes, zero dollars and similar dev drama and STILL turned out fantastic. What a wild timeline.
Hey, is it weird on my first time playing I got the Trish cutscene by complete accident and I didn’t watch anything before hand and it was easy for me
@oscarborjas2833 well agreeing with her is what a lot of the options give you in the game unlike say rosa(raul) or sage.
This game had a lot of meddling behind the sense snoot came out first and was just everything high couldn't its just sad how bad it turned out
8:38 ⚠️ SWEET BABY INC DETECTED. SWEET BABY INC DETECTED. ⚠️
It's not even that the game is bad... is that it's boring.
It has nothing to say and the characters are cardboard cutouts with the most innofensive personalities ever.
It's a shame really.
This game suffers from a severe case of "millenial writing": just about when they are about to say something serious and touching, a character says stupid shit out of nowhere (because "funny" and "unexpected")
Snoot Game meanwhile made me laugh on numerous ocassions, the jokes were actually unexpected (and obviously, they didnt make a character say a shitty joke during the most traumatic event of their life, lmao)
Try Angels with Scaly Wings - you will LOVE it!
23:10 this is is the definition of "crying over spilled milk" in the shape of pastelle dinosaurs with teen angst.
I'm all for this dude's visual novel readings. Something about it is comforting
I'm a little sad that they rewrote this game, Naser supposed to play the "bad guy" like Trish was in Snoot, and the relationship between characters was fleshes out more.
I don't think it gonna be good, but at least it not as boring at this one.
This must have been the weirdest journey for you. Starting with I Wani, then moving to Snoot Game, and now finishing with...this.
Without this we wouldn't have had Snootgame and that makes this game important dispite it's shortcomings in a lot of aspects
Hey dude, idk if u gonna read this but play puppet pals, is a mod from snoot Game, is hilarius, trust me
This title is what everyone felt
I'd like to inform you that this game cost you more than the previous three games did combined.
So... When are we getting to Hatoful Boyfriend?
May I reccomend a Visual Novel that will f"ck you up in an entirely different way than the ones you've known so far?
I reccomend Slow Damage. Far more dramatic, but really good, trauma material!
Damm, just saw all your VN videos and I have to say you got a knack for reviewing/first thoughts, the editing is real nice and you know how to voice your thoughts, I hope you want to do more because I will be looking forward to it.
Also if you want recommendations: while not exactly a VN but has elements from them: dangaronpa is very interesting and maybe something you'd like
A bad game that was good in concept hurts more than a bad game that was never good.
I wanna see how he feels about slay the princess, It's personally one of my top 10's
Bruh, these animations 💀. Wani is a great example of quality over quantity
who would win: a government-backed studio with 4 years of development time and budget, and was featured in front of hundreds of thousands of people at a massive video game show.
or
4chan volunteers with 0 budget and a year of time?
Snoot Game handled this better by having consistent conflicts drive every story beat and scene (except for some of the good ending, which was a tad dull if you ask me)
Despite my usual brash rightwing-ness, I like these characters and their voice performances and problems, I'm open to hearing about them. But outside of them occasionally expositing their household problems, it doesn't come up.
Snoot Game was very wise to put at the center of the main conflict the familial drama, Goodbye Volcano High really could have served with a story and conflict built around family
I’m sorry you had to play that “game”
Keep in mind this game had two total rewrites AFTER snoot game came out, so there are technically four versions of these characters.
hes back 🙏
The worst part is that Rosa is not even a character on this game
You didn't mention her in the video
"who talks like this?" *Raises my hand in overly verbose shame* 😅
They aint dodgin the comet!
With this game only having one ending, makes me wonder why this couldn't have been a web series?
Although I suppose Snoot Game wouldnt exist without this, so I'm glad it exists in a strange way
I guess we should thank GVH for is without GVH, we would never get SG or IWHTG.
OH NO!
9:56 i realised why Fang's voice feels familiar. She sounds like Amelia mader
YMS said it best
"this game was made to create jobs"
At least there wasn't an ending where everybody gets shot
Brooo... play Everlasting Summer.
thank you for reminding me about everlasting summer. Cant believe its been ten years, since I played that little gem.
I can't hate this game. There's mostly just wasted potential in my opinion. Also without this game we wouldn't have Snoot Game or I Wani Hug That Gator. It's conflicting to say the least.
it got rewards for being "inclusive"
What do you mean?
I'd recommend checking out Changeling Tale, Magi Trials and maybe Digimon Survive. Changeling Tale is nsfw, but its got some really good writing in it. Magi Trials is a fun magic school story. Digimon Survive is a great game, though I don't think they quite found the balance of tactical RPG and VN.
Watch out bui, the creators of goodbye volcano high are known to take down any videos praising snoot game while shitting on their game
4:15 me every time i see sage
and stella
and....
Trish.
Play class of 09’ it has the same style of “abridged writing” (to put in a lack of better terms) as snoot and it was made by sbn3
I think those L&L parts were just there to waste the players time.
Playing this game first and then snoot game is certainly a experience
I’m so glad I refunded before logging an hour into it
you should play milk inside a bag of milk inside a bag of milk inside a bag of milk and it's sequel, nice video btw
Please don't tell me you spend money on this? 💀
Did you atleast get a refund on this?
You should try Gris, it’s about grief and it has good animation and soundtrack in my opinion
17:56 this is so me realizing that GVH fang turned out to have a romantic relationship with naomi. Like YEAH IM LOSING MY SHIT TOO
Perhaps i may have treated the game a bit too harshly, afterall it is the catalyst that sparks the creation of snoot game which then develops into the wani game
Overall rating 4.5/10 , it tried to be something but it failed miserably 😔
I have never laughed so hard in my life over the dumbest shit before
Honestly even though I knew how this game would’ve turned out, it’s just pretty sad to see GVH just have multiple “flash-in-the-pan” moments and then it just goes away.
Playthrough the fate novel we will be here for 3 years
Welp, the whole Sage deal is rather one-sided.
Forbidden truth. If certain people had their way, saying it would get you thrown into camps.
Skeptical of anything your saying considering the statistics point to a low detransition rate of 3-4% and very low regret rate for medically transitioning.
