    Can you please do a follow up on the new version? The original version was bulletproof, the new version is considerably lower quality (i snapped an eyelet lacing it up out of the box).. maybe you can get in contact with the topo rep and see whats going on?

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  Місяць тому +1

      Hmm that definitely sounds like a production defect. I'm sure you would be able to get it replaced, since it happened right out of the box. I'd be very surprised if that happened twice in a row

    Just did 600 miles on the Pursuits. Fantastic shoe. Extreme comfortable and durable. I have a big arch and wide plantar. The fit is best I've ever had.

      I agree, I really feel like they hit it all just right for this Pursuit. I'm not sure when the Pursuit 2 is set to release, but hopefully they didn't make any drastic changes. Thanks for watching!

    My daughter is interested in these shoes, but not for running, but for work. She stands a lot so she wants cushioning, but Ive convinced her that 0drop and ample toe box is good. What is bothersome is what I hear about this shoe having too much arch support.

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  Рік тому +1

      So most Topo shoes have a higher arch feel to the shoe, which can be too much for some with lower or flat arches. Depending on the model of shoe, that arch feel can be more supportive than others, as a shoe having arch feel doesn't necessarily equate to arch support. Whether this is comfortable or not will come down to the height of the arch and how it matches up with the arch of the shoe.

    I went with Topo MTN Racer's on a whim and they ended up being my all-time favorite shoe. 200 hundred ish miles this summer on a hiking trip in the sierras and what I still use for running a few times a week. They are bombproof. Not even a small tear or hole in the upper and soles are still looking good. Definitely the longest lasting shoe I've ever had

    I wish they made a 25mm stack height (28 would be the limit), trail, zero drop, waterproof shoe.

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah at the moment, looks like the Terraventure WP is the closest from topo with a 3mm drop. Outside of Topo, it's probably the Altra Lone Peak All-Wthr

    • @crybananas
      @crybananas 5 місяців тому

      @@ConversationalPace I love the LP's but I understand from reviews I have seen that the waterproofing isn't great. I considered the Terraventure WP but I really prefer 0 drop. To me extra height on the heel and my posture completely changes. I am not sure if I ever had a 3mm drop shoe so maybe it is negligible but feels wrong to buy anything with a drop haha.

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  5 місяців тому +1

      Hah yeah I hear ya on that one. I feel like 3mm drop should be close enough where things shouldn't go totally awry. Especially if you have another zero drop shoe that is still in the rotation.

    Hi I am going to get this shoe,
    I have a wide forefoot (bunion)
    My Hoka Mafate Speed 4 is size US10.5, and my Hoka Tecton X2 is US11,
    What size do you recommend I buy this US 10.5 or US 11?
    Thanks :)

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  6 місяців тому

      hmm that's a tricky one, as I was the same size in both the mafate and Tecton X2. I have always been one to err on the side of caution and size up, especially to get the extra width, as I'd rather have a shoe that's the correct width and a little long than a shoe that is the right length, but too tight

  • @adrianbeacon6421
    @adrianbeacon6421 Рік тому +1

    Hi, I tried to find this information, but couldn't... Do you know if manufacturers that make shoes with roomy toe box like Topo and Altra have different shoes for men and women of the same model (most notably color is different, but are there any more differences for example in shoe shape)?

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  Рік тому

      The width will be different. For Altra and topo, their men's shoes are based off a D width last and B width for the women's. Some shoes might have different stack heights but they're usually within a few mm

    • @adrianbeacon6421
      @adrianbeacon6421 Рік тому +1

      @@ConversationalPace Thanks for the answer. I was asking because I have pretty wide forefoot, but narrower heel part. It's difficult enough to find shoes with wide toe box, but often they are paired with wide ankle and heel part. To make matters worse I live in a place with not so many shops and shipping is also a challenge (also the returns). I was looking for a shoe similar to Lone Peak 6 but with narrower heel part...

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  Рік тому

      Yeah the Topo Pursuit would definitely fall into that category of wider forefoot and a narrower heel. The Altra Timp is a bit narrower all around. Same with the Altra Mont Blanc

    • @adrianbeacon6421
      @adrianbeacon6421 Рік тому +1

      @@ConversationalPace It looks like I didn't try hard enough to find the info about shoe widths. Now I can see that Topo has size charts with widths for toe box and midfoot+heel on their site. But even if it seems that the widths are different (D vs B) when you take into account that men's size 8.5 is women's size 10 the width could be the same. At least accoring to the tables I found both of them have width of 3 3/4".

    I got the Topo Mtn Racer 2 a year ago. Loved them and still loving them over 400 miles in though they are definitely nearing their end (I overpronate and damage the inner part of every shoe I try). They are the first trail shoe that I really felt secure and trusted on technical trails (grippy with some ground feel). I think I will try the Pursuit next, but will probably also end up with another MTN Racer.

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  8 місяців тому

      I bet either the Pursuit or the new Mtn Racer would be a suitable replacement! Check out our Mtn racer 3 review if you didn't already. The cushion is different than the 2, but the shape and the fit has remained the same. Thanks for watching!

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  Рік тому +2

      Pretty much all Topo I have tried have the same shape arch, which is definitely on the higher side and perhaps a little short, if that makes sense. Some have said it feels like the high point is too far back. This was the main negative feedback I got from Topo when I was selling them in a specialty run shop.

    So if this has been a good shoe for building mileage in a low risk scenario, what has been the best shoe for building vert in a low risk scenario?

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  Рік тому +1

      With building vert usually also means building descending, so I would search for a shoe that will help keep you healthy and comfortable on those depending miles. What kind of terrain will you be training on?

    Do you think this shoe is good for hiking Half Dome?

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  Рік тому

      It definitely could be! The Megagrip outsole will be great on the rock. You'll just need to make the decision of whether the rocky nature of the trail will necessitate a high top or not. Personally, I prefer a low top that I have more control in. Just as long as you have good grip, and the shoe is comfortable for you, it can get the job done 👍

    I've really liked my Topos, run the Ultraventure and the Mountain Racers. Reminds me a lot of the Altra, but seems to be better built. Would love to hear your thoughts on the carbon plated shoes out there right now, TNF Vectiv, Hoka Tecton, Speedlands, Craft...

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  Рік тому +3

      I've actually run in all of those and I think they still need to work on the carbon tuning. The speedland (SL:PDX:) had the best stability on technical trail. Felt the least tippy. Also had the most flexible plate. The Tecton x was 2nd for me in that category. Craft and TNF were too stiff and greatly increased the ankle roll risk on more technical terrain. And then for mild terrain where I felt safe in the shoe, I would just opt for a road shoe like the Saucony endorphin speed. With that being said, I am excited to see how these companies tweak things for 2023!

      @@ConversationalPace I'm on my 4th pair of the TNF Flights, love them. They take some break-in and wish the heel wasn't such a debris catcher (gaiters FTW). They are durable, last year I raced Old Cascadia 50/50, Tahoe Rim Trail 100, and Castle Peak 100k in the same pair. I used them again this year for Bighorn and High Lonesome (but different pairs). To me they have great support, good cushion, good rocker (think Peal Izumi) and are fast. I think they could use some tweaks on the materials, not sure they need the all the Matrix and could improve the heel fit, works for me but is wonky. Curious to try the Speedlands, but can't justify the price. Spending $200 seems like a splurge.

    • @ConversationalPace
      @ConversationalPace  Рік тому +1

      My biggest issue with the TNF Flight Vectiv was that the heel cup wasn't sturdy enough for me and a few times the shoe rolled out from under my foot causing some pretty gnarly ankle rolls. I 100% agree with the Pearl Izumi rocker feel though. I am excited for the new TNF shoes coming out very soon! We are hoping to do a longer term review on he new Speedland SL: Tam when it is available, as we are hearing that it lasts about double most other trainers. If I can actually get 700-800 quality miles out of the shoe, that would justify the $275 price for me, but more testing will be needed to confirm that.

      @ConversationalPace  6 місяців тому +1

      It seems like in the majority of the cases, Topo has lasted quite a bit longer than most Altras regarding durability. Altra seems to be improving, but the Topo materials are still top tier, IMO. Hope they work out for you!
