    Getting a steam deck as a PC gamer is a surreal experience. It's new and also at the same time familiar because you're just using steam and that library you've built up over the years. It just works out the box and I got sucked into playing like an hour of Triangle Strategy while setting up the device and downloading games xD

    • @XXIVCONCEPT

      Totally agree and i love this story!

    • @Zimur85
      @Zimur85 6 місяців тому +4

      As a true PC gamer, it was so surreal to get that console-like feel by playing games I have been playing on my PC.
      And the funniest part is, that many games I have already tried on Deck, like Snowrunner and Stardew Valley, works quite well with controller as well with keyboard+mouse.
      Though this is not going to make me buying any consoles. :D

      As a non PC gamer, the steam deck has been phenomenal. Easy UI, incredible sales. Easy emulation too.

      Everything mentioned is why I’m buying the steam over the ally or legion go. The overall package is better than the other two mainstream handhelds.

    • @mravg79

      And then for some people it is going outside their comfort zone from the OS they know, to the uncharted waters of Linux.
      But if someone likes learning and tinkering it opens a whole new world (alternative launchers, side loading drm free games, emulation). For me deck replaced my old laptop with a dock and an 27” display.
      EDIT: the only thing I believe could be improved is the grip, I would prefer some texture to it, as sometimes I have impression that my hands are not firmly gripping the device and it might slide.

    Thumbs up for being one of the few UA-camrs to recognize the customizability and potential of the Deck's thumbpads, especially for better control in shooters...even most Deck users think it's just for desktop mode. I'm a huge fan of them, as anyone can tell from one glance at my channel, which lately is mostly trackpad setup guides and gameplay videos showing it in action.

    • @XXIVCONCEPT
      @XXIVCONCEPT  6 місяців тому +3

      Absolutely. I felt they needed to be recognized along with all the customizability even if I particularly don’t use them all that much. The fact that it’s that big of a feature quietly tucked away was something I felt needed some attention.

    I preordered the 512 lcd before release and really enjoyed it. I held off on the OLED until I seen one in person and man, I was immediately sold on it. Love it. Valves openness is a breath of fresh air in this, well any, industry. I can't say I trust many companies to be consumer friendly(looking at you ASUS) but I do trust Valve.

    I like that you mention the resolution “war” in the laptop space, it is the same for handheld devices. The resolution of a display should be comprise between pixel density making image look good and the power draw.
    IMO 16:10 proportions a good, but I do not see a point of of 4K resolution on 17” laptop screen.
    Same for handheld devices, trying to increase pixel density on a small screen might be impressive from technical standpoint but beyond certain PPI it will be hard to see the difference.

    Its a great device but flawed design and bad controls specifically tthe buttons are mushy and too close to the edges of the unit,retro games are garbage on the deck and strangely not very good looking due to the deck screen aspect ratio
    Black screens are common,messing with linux to get basic things working is NOT fun,grill plastics are not durable,unit can get hot,the fan can be loud,the desktoo environment doesnt work the same as gamemode,specifically performance is slower vut sometimes is needed,diags on the terrible Doad are bad,button placement bad
    I have the oled 512,its power was more than i expected for a handheld,it plays soo many games amazingly well,the screen is clear and ultra bright,the battery life is GOOD and charges really quick too,the touch screen and sticks are great
    I am a fussy gamer,the deck is amazing to me even with its flaws,they can be forgiven because of the scope of what is possible

    Learn how to use windows if you want to play ALL your games. It's not perfect but, learning how to use windows could land you a job so it's a win-win?

    Valve should invest more in hardware - steam Machines failed as they were 3rd party different configurations, and let’s be honest back then gaming on Linux had more issues and less compatibility. Steam Machines used intel cpu + nvidia gpu. So imo the hardware itself was a problem.
    I believe Valve should take a next try on a cross-over PC-console market.
    Modern consoles are just custom build PCs with AMD APU. The PC that people a building are getting really expensive.
    So there is a middle ground where Valve in cooperation with AMD could create APU (similar to one’s which will be in next gen consoles - I mean the same internal AMD architecture and based on well known x86-64) but more powerful. Instead of using power supply which is like 250W it should use 500W power supply. Architecture similar to consoles also means there will be less issues with optimizing games. Sure the price will be well above console price but at the same time I believe it would be still cheaper than building a PC. For me it would be best of two worlds.
    This plus the next gen Deck and valve would build an ecosystem.
    Which would in the long run benefit them as they could also earn on hardware sales or use it to promote their store front.

    • @jedimojojojo1603
      @jedimojojojo1603 6 місяців тому

      No the console market is already taken up by Sony, Microsoft, and (sort of) Nintendo. Valve found their niche and should not go no further. Atari tried the console market once again and failed. I used to say to myself if Atari came out with their own hybrid handheld, it would have been very attractive. Handhelds are the "thing" now so going forward it should only get better. People these days are always on the go/or have very little time to game hence taking care of their family, college, 9-5's, and the like. Alienware dropped the ball 5 years ago when they showed Concept UFO. They money they could have made if they had released their hybrid PC handheld console would had valve weaving in second place where the Ally sits right now...but alas look where the tides had turned. Valve sits at #1. Smach Z also dropped the ball.

    Pretty annoying "review". More like a ball-fluffing session. The steam deck is... fine. Just fine. It was terrible with that very bad quality LCD screen. Now with the nice OLED screen it is serviceable. But the problem is - its just too weak. In 90% of situations a gaming laptop is going to be leagues better. Gaming Laptop with say an RTX 4060 is almost as portable but miles more powerful - like 2x at least. Sure you can't use a laptop in those edge-cases like bus-travel or whatever... Each to their own. I will buy a gaming handheld once the tech matures a bit more but for now the Steam Deck is just meh - too underpowered to devote 19 minutes of enthusiastic deep-throating it to.

    • @XXIVCONCEPT

      So comparing the SD to a laptop isn't really a fair comparison is it? It serves a different market. People buying a laptop are likely looking to do more than just game. A handheld is more focused on gaming, likely solo. Valve built the Steam Deck not to cut out laptops, but to allow you to enjoy your Steam library on the go without the need for a controller or having to deal with Windows which is of course a preference.
      Totally valid point. I agree in that I would love to have more performance, but as i said in my review, the best handheld is the one you actually find yourself wanting to use. This goes for any device imo. I have 2 high-end gaming PCs I built and have had my fair share of gaming laptops but I have gamed more on this SD than any of them since owning it. That also is due to the games I like to play.
      Let's be real, the best handheld would be a super super efficient high powered machine with good controls, good software, and good game selection. But we're not quite there yet. But I think we're close!
