However, I really dig the way the mix sounds, I went for this muddy and "smokey" sonorities intentionally. I wanted to emphatize feelings of confusion through it. I know it is not everyone's cup of tea, tho.

Awe man that was tasty!!! I have been trying to play this solo since I took up guitar in 019. I can play most of it but the runs for some reason or remembering ....it makes no sense I keep messing that part up. I want to honor DG with this one but want it done right. Like this!!! Hahah
Thank you very much! Keep it going and keep practicing, it's just a matter of that. If I can give you some advices, record yourself for a couple of takes and work on the parts you don't like in the way they came out, I can ensure you will be able to play this solo in a way you will be proud of.

Thanks! I used Positive Grid's Spark 40. There is added reverb in post production through a Reaper plugin though

Thanks! As I say in the description, I used my Positive Grid Spark connected via USB to my PC, and Reaper as a DAW to manage the recording. The signal chain I used on spark was, in order:
Noise gate pedal
Simulation of Pro Co RAT stomp
Clean Fender style amp
Flanger
Echo Tape Delay
Reverb
On top of that I added a bunch of echo reverb to the whole track using a free vst in reaper, so that I could get my guitars within the layer of sound I wanted to create. The amount of reverb was adjusted post recording so that I could tune it in function of the volumes of the backing track instruments

Well done, your playing sounds great, not many people can play this solo and have it sound great but you surely can. One issue would be how you mixed this in the computer as it sounds muddy, lacking presence and volume. Great playing though man.
Thank you for the very kind words, I really appreciate that. Considering that my own guitar playing is my number one concern in these type of videos, comments like yours motivate me in putting out these contents.
For the mixing part, I knew it was not gonna be everyone's cup of tea. Personally, I dig it. I know it's not a good mix, yet it's all I can do. I'm not good at that part of producing music, I have limited knowledge in how to record and mix guitars, and considering my skills in that I am quite happy with the result I got. Still, I recognize I should probably also start working out on mixing and recording guitars properly one day or another.
what gauge size do you use?
On the Stratocaster I use Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9 - 42 gauge

This is a cover of the original recording version 😂 The video is cut out, in the recording I went on playing the solo further for another couple of minutes but I always end up butchering the song by shredding all over the place, and I dont think you wanna hear me doing that 😂😂
