I'm looking for an X32 Producer replacement. Something with the same rack mountable form factor but better processing, I/O, and physical faders. The WING Compact seems to be a good upgrade but it's still limited to 48khz. I really dig the fold up touch screen though and the flexibility per channel compared to the X32. The full time group I'm in is looking for a new board but I have to be conscious about storage space. I just don't have a lot of space in our bus bays to work with. Many of the digital boards in competition with the X32 Producer are simply too big/tall. I've heard decent things about the Allen & Heath SQ-5 but I'm not a fan of the UI. Also interested in multitrack playback interfaces for live performance. I don't need a lot of inputs. I need outputs. The Track Rig by Loop Community is really the ONLY option I find with XLR output, although anything with TRS output isn't a deal breaker. I just don't need all the bells and whistles that come with most 8+ channel interfaces that drive up the price.
Hey Warren! Thanks so much for the shoutout for our studio, The Foundry Recording Studio!! Thanks for all you do for the music community. Would love to have you out when we open in June 2025!
DreamTonics Vocal synth looks like it could be a game changer for me as a songwriter who cant sing and needs vocals for my ideas. I never knew it even existed until I watched this, now knowing its available is a godsend!! Thank you for posting!! 🙏🏻
It’s going to unlock a ton of possibilities for aspiring songwriters and non-singing producers as well. Definitely will be able to help level up production while keeping artist costs low!
Still stuck in Glendora,Ca. ( on a JOB...trying to get down there tomarrow to hang with you all ) Hope your enjoying yourself @ NAMM 2025 :) George Amodei
1:05:25 - my man just REALLY wants to buy new mics, and I can't judge him for it 😂 been there. I appreciate how you are kindly guiding him (and us) to think the problem through more carefully
love shure brand my grandmother gave me a shure mike when i was 14 or 15 ive been hooked on shure since 1974, use to love the shrue book that came out. this is how i learned about mike polar patter and frequency response.. Happy 100th shure audio. dont sleep on there headphone there bang for ya buck as well... Great review truly love your namm coverage every year..
Make sure you stop by the “Mystery Magician” table and look at their M808a mic preamps. Great company run by some real talented musicians with insight into studio electronics.
Sorry Warren, I have a question and can't find the answer. Maybe one for your FAQ Friday? I'm about to record a track with a band but it features a school choir (a charity song) and I'm wondering how to record the choir as they are young and I have no way of sticking headphones on them all so I have to use a backing track for them to sing to. I'm using my portable studio to record them and then transfer the data to my DAW. How do I stop the backing track bleeding through to the mix when I put it together? Thanks in advance
In my experience with recording children’s choirs, the quickest and easiest way I’ve found is to have whoever is recording and whoever is conducting on headphones, and let the kids follow the conductor. Take it in small sections so you can focus on getting a few takes to choose from (also to potentially blend for a larger sound), and take it part by part so you have good separation and can blend in the DAW. Doing it in patchwork makes it a lot for fun for the kids and takes the pressure off to do a full take, especially if the material is new for the kids, and doesn’t take much extra time, especially if the kids start losing focus.
Reference pitches created in advance for different sections (or a portable keyboard or other instrument to give starting notes) will remove the need to have the backing track, and because there are several kids, they’ll help keep each other in tune, and the conductor/engineer will be able to hear if they’re getting off for quality control
@Cidr0n thanks for replying back🫵🏽😎 🙏🏽. I was looking at getting those. Can u give any info on them, any experience with them? Is there something better?
@@DaMixWizard With that budget it is essential that you go visit a store to listen to other models (and other brands!). Eg HD800S2, Arya, Ananda. Mag planars are the best choice for mixing/mastering though. Good luck and let me know which ones you bought!
Thank you for a great channel. I was wondering if it would be possible for you to look into the (amazing!) recording process of ABBA? I have always been a fan off(-and still have a crush on Agnetha) one of the best bands ever. I have been listening carefully to Arrival and The album, on it strikes me how great the contributing musicians were. I will always love their music. Cheers. Vegar, Norway
I don't think it will. I use my VSX headphones every day, but they don't remotely compare to the stereo imaging or bass response that my monitors offer (LYD48, MM26). VSX freq response is, AFAIK, more accurate than any other headphone for the price, especially when set to the flat profile. But mid to high-end monitors are truly an experience to hear, and a privilege to work on.
0:01 Strong Northern Dutch accent, haha. Mine sounds a bit more British, for some reason. Don't know why really. ;) But I'm from the East in the Netherlands, which's weird. It should be the other way around. :P
The patch bay is controlled from your computer via a plug in that comes up in your DAW. It have tons of analog hardware connected to it. So someone with a huge collection of hardware will be able to access it instantly, even faster than a plug in.
Atmos might be cool if i ran film post, otherwise it's a niche application that will not be remembered in about 8 years. Stereo nailed it. We got TWO ears at most.
@@balisaani Those are the Dreadful greys :( Would have went with those speakers, but because of the looks went with Amphion One15's instead of PMC's :D
What are gear you looking for? What do you want manufacturers to make? Thanks ever so much for watching!

That patchbay is awesome. the fact that the software will work as a plugin, always recall from the session. love it

Excellent drum advice in the Q&A! Great quote: "You should be able to do it with a 57" Fair comment.

1.08.00 the Metal snare; careful dont Saint Anger that can!
Most snare's I record are made of metal, the St Anger snare is the fact they tuned it so high!
