There are so many docs who would have skipped the CBC and just assumed that it was viral and sent this child home. You are a good doctor💙
You’re right on both points!
Sometimes a cbc can't return fast enough as we don't have a lab on site or someone to read it on site. This is most often seen in rural communities
True.
I heard typhoid fever causes this
Yeah defiantly
Poor little one looks like she just wants to sleep.. you are such a caring compassionate dr..wish there were more like you out there. Thank you for the videos
He’s so caring
Praise God! A doctor who respects personal privacy and INFORMED CONSENT ❤That makes you a rare treasure
I love how you work with the littles! You have lots of cool ways to get them to cooperate. I really like this video, how you left the final decision private up to the parents and yet showed us the different paths. You are a very thorough and excellent pediatrician. Grandma Kim❤️
Kudos to Mama and Dad for bringing her in. Bless her little heart. She was precious.
You can tell how worried the parents are. She is so beloved by them
I wish my doctor would’ve been so kind and uplifting. Thank you for everything that you Dr Paul! You are amazing
Such a good video. She is adorable and you can tell she doesn’t feel good. Dr.Paul completely tries to make not only the patient but the parents feel at ease. 🥰
he is the best doctor ever ❤❤❤❤❤❤
You are a great pediatrician, not only with the children but also have a way to ease parents stress during difficult times. Been having bad experiences with my daughters pediatrician just wish i could find someone as good as you in the area
I really appreciate the fact that you honored their privacy in TX decision. Please keep up the wonderful work Dr.
Wish we had drs as thorough and patient as Dr Paul and the staff everywhere
Bless her little heart. Hope she’s fully recovered and back to her fun self by now!!
WOW THIS CHANNEL IS SO EDUCATIONAL.
IF I HAD A TEACHER OR A FATHER LIKE THAT WOULD BE A GENIUS. THANK YOU DR FOR TAKING THE TIME
Awe, my hear went out to this poor little girl for being so sick. Her parents were smart to bring her in right away to see you. Glad you did the CBC. I didn't know you could read the test right away in your office. Amazing technology today. I understand protecting the rights of the parents decision on options, but I just want to know if she is OK now. Thank you for helping this family with their very sick child.
Sweet little one! I hope she’s on the road to recovery! Thank you for putting her and her family first, like always!
You are every parent's dream doctor. ❤😊
My sons doc was amazing. He used to take his bunny toy with him. She would first check out bunny too show him it wouldn't hurt and of course make sure bunny was OK. She always spoke to him as her patient no matter that he was only 2.
It’s like a revision, recalling what I had learned plus new things to learn from your videos.
I wish there are more doctors like you
Amen Claire! They are few and far between.
Ikr. I never expected this level of in depth teaching. I think in my country, people will get bothered if doctor visit took long, and wouldn't even want to hear what the doctor would be teaching. So, it is nice to see that maybe it could get better. This video gives me hope.
I love this! Thank you to the parents and patient for volunteering to do this! I’m studying as a PA currently and these videos are so helpful :) wish there were more educational videos like this
Poor sweet girl. So thankful you did the CBC. I pray she is feeling great now.
Great video wish could get a separate video hearing this options not with the patient but for us who are providers to help us treat our patients.
Wouldn’t providers already know that?
@@ashruz_3095 well for me personally, I just grad NP school so no I don’t know everything. Somehow I don’t feel your question to be sincere but more condescending.
I agree with Ashruz_, if you truly have graduated, regardless of what kind of provider (NP, PA, or MD) this is information you should know. How embarrassing to have to watch a UA-cam video. 😅😂
@@KaylaCorrine17 well it’s obvious you no nothing about the structure of healthcare workers and how knowledge is acquired.
@@jroark101 So let me get this straight, you graduated as a nurse practitioner and you need a UA-cam video to go over all the differential diagnoses for a patient that presents with SIRS criteria (tachy, febrile, and hypotensive) who has an elevated white cell count, no rebound or guarding, and a negative UA (besides the trace protein)? If that’s the case, I can see why my colleagues continually say they believe we are currently watching the downfall of medicine.
I admire your work with young children. You really know your patients and can tell just by looking at them that something is going on and investigate further. Thank you doctor
My mom was a nurse. In the lab she did blood counts under a microscope. Near the end of her nursing career she learned to use a new machine that did the blood counts. The simplicity of use of that modern machine reminded me of my mother's work and how much medicine has changed since the early '70's.
That machine was probably called a hemocytometer. I never used one, but did use current machines.
You're such a wonderful pediatrician!
I had a brain tumor when I was a kid. I do not have words to describe how much I adore my neurosurgeons!!!
I hope the poor little girl feels better soon. I wish GP surgeries in the U.K. could do blood tests in house with same day results. However, it is probably expensive and financially I am completely reliant on our good old NHS.
This is not entirely true, the NHS can do same day return if specified as urgent by the GP to a local hospital. I was sent to A&E for this exact reason because they could turn around the blood tests within a couple hours. Ultimately, the GP will have to decide whether or not the test is truly urgent in terms of stressing the system versus letting the patient be uncomfortable but safe. The NHS is blamed for a lot of things, but urgent triage is generally one of its good points (if we ignore the always free at point of care treatment).
When necessary they will do a same day CBC, it goes by need. Like in this case. If you were to show up at urgent care with these same symptoms, adult version of severity, they would absolutely do a same day CBC.
…
I would really love an update
I hate throwing up too it’s horrible
Thank you Dr. Paul and Thank you to the family for taking us along. very interesting case. learned a lot
*Dr - as a medical student I want to point out that observing for Kernig and Brudzinski signs (stiff neck meningitis signs) is being phased out of medical practice as these are considered signs which appear too late in the illness.*
I appreciate I'm coming from a UK perspective but I urge you to take this information on board and look into it for the safety of your patients.
I was about to comment the same thing, well said! It’s so important for all doctors to keep up to date, as difficult as that may sometimes be.
This comment will probably be deleted but he's the reason a child was horribly sick with tetanus and almost died because he recommended against a tetanus shot. First case of tetanus in Oregon in decades. His medical license was suspended because of this. He does not care about modern medical practice.
@@minimojo6099 Curious as a last semester nursing student, what the new practices are for testing for meningitis?
Interesting! We were still taught to do that this year in nursing school.
Seems like different regions have different codes of practice! Like the different codes of practice involved in construction and Civil Engineering!
I have had the weirdest medical stuff. This year so far I had the ambulance take me in and I sat for 17 hours and started a melt down. My sweetie wasn't with me . I then waited 2 more hours of CT and they found a gulfball sized deep abcess 8n my throat. They drained it and it was traumatizing after 21 hours there I finally went home.. The last time was an infection in my Bowel in the large intestine. These things happen so fast. Those are amazing parents.
Wow, usually when you come in by ambulance in the US, you are seen immediately. That has been my experience.
Dr Paul u are amazing with little kids which is absolutely beautiful to see thank you
He’s so thorough! I’m pretty sure my children’s doctor would have immediately said it’s a virus right after I listened the symptoms
Bless her heart feel better!!
Zdravím úžasného pana doktora ❤️❤️😊🇨🇿
I hope she will be ok. Saying a prayer sweetie.
I hope the little girl is feeling well now 💙
Aww so sorry baby is sick. Saying prayers!
Thank you for sharing this with us. 🙏🏽❤️
Your a good doctor, need more of you.
Lord Jesus I pray divine healing over this precious child.
Amen, I come to agreement with you on that
Great doctor. These patients are very fortunate. Like with everything else, not all doctors are good! If your doctor does not talk to you like this, explaining things and teaching you, find a new doctor!
You’re back!!! Yesss
My if my doctor made me look to my chest the morning I came in very sick, I would have been sent to the hospital. Instead he sent me home on antibiotics for a sinus infection. My mama rushed me to the hospital later that day because I became very delirious and spiked a dangerously high fever. Had she not acted the second she did, I would have been six feet under. I had a very severe case of bacterial meningitis. That’s a week of my life that is totally blank to me. When I came to, I was very confused but I was coherent and made a full recovery. To this day, I still get a panic attack when I have a sinus infection.
You are the best, I hope she feels better soon.
I value a doctor that is willing to talk about informed consent. So many doctors don't bother to give all the facts even in the scariest of diagnoses
Great Dr.hope little one got well quickly, bless her!
Hello I bless her heart so much🙏🏼
My kiddo had similar symptoms and is ASD. Ended up in the ICU with DKA and a diagnosis of T1D 🥺
Very scary. Hope this kiddo feels better soon.
Omg I'm so sorry you all went through that. Your child in the hospital is an awful experience (mine was in for almost a week at 5 months old).
@@sitcomchristian6886 im sorry your baby had to go through that too. We were in for a week as well. I don’t wish it on ANYONE. Id gladly take on anything if it meant my children didn’t have to.
I hope your baby is doing better 🙏🏽
So sorry you have to go through that! A type 1 diabetes diagnosis is life changing.❤️❤️❤️
@@cyndizebra6119 it really has been, thank you for your kindness 💙
When I saw the title and thumbnail I immediately thought T1d I was diagnosed age 11 but it unfortunately want picked up at the first dr visit so I was a lot sicker by the time they realised. Definitely showed similar signs although for me they were more gradual and drinking and peeing all the time were the main ones!
I miss Dr Paul’s videos I hope He and his son are doing well ❤
Love your channel!
You are a very good doctor👨⚕️💙
Hope she feels better soon
Love you Dr. Paul❤️
and she’s so cute 🥰
Such good care ❤️
Poor baby.
You're an amazing doctor!
Bless that baby's heart ❤️
Dr Paul you are very appreciated.
Doctor, why are you so breathless?
Maybe he doesn’t feel well 🤷🏽♀️
Maybe because he’s wearing a mask
I wonder if he was a bit anxious not having an easy or quick diagnosis for the patient.
To bad that there isn't more doctors like dr.paul.
Thanks Dr Paul you are an angel on earth.😘😘
I like watching dr.Paul he should have his own tv show.
i also love how theres a sign no photos or videos allowed yet he's filming a video
I don't mind vein blood draws--but I am terrified of the excrutiatingly painful finger sticks. I would be screaming my head off!!
Kid got her finger pricked and didn’t even cry
Why dont ALL medical dr's or facilities run these quick CBC's? It could save parents from having to bring children back and save children from having to stay sick and possibly get even sicker. You are a fabulous Dr!
She’s so sick, she didn’t cry when her blood is taken.
So what was the outcome/treatment & I hope the poor child felt a lot better soon x
When my daughter was 3 years old she had a temperature of 103.9 vomiting and couldn't keep anything down. So, I made a cup I'd green tea and put a little bit of honey in it. Told her to sip it slowly. She was so dehydrated before the tea. And, the tea was the only thing she didn't vomit up. Once she began to tinkle in the potty, I knew she would be okay. Temperature went back to normal and the vomiting stopped.
Yu can buy organic dried ginger and steep it in the tea before serving, great for settling stomach and has other health benefits as well. I use about a half teaspoon, For a small child I would use 3 little pieces. Dried ginger is diced and dried.
Aww poor baby ..hope she's better now.
I love your videos ❤
I'm not even a doctor and when I heard all the symptoms plus not getting anyone else sick I thought of Bacterial Infection
Mom looks like Jana Duggar. Amazing doctor ❤️
how can you even see that with a mask?
Bless her
throwing up should be banned
Bless her heart 💜
wbc count can be eleveted in children with vomiting episodes due to cortisol secretion. it does not necessarily mean bacterial infection. Crp can help also
I feel so bad for her❤❤❤😢
I saw a poster and it says that no vidios😂
Great doctor!
lol i had a pediatrician who thought I had after symptoms of an flu infection and kept on telling me cuz my blood scores weren't that high 😂 my 10kg weight loss, the pain and bruises were normal to her😂 turns out I have a light to mild crohns disease 😂, luckily have another one now who really listened and ordered an colonoscopy and gastroscopy to make this diagnosis and he immediately did a liver biopsy too to see if it was connected cuz my enzymes were high too but "luckily" it was just medication and i stopped with it and these enzymes are almost normal again
being sick sucks
Sometimes a cats heart murmur is amplified or only noticeable when they’re dehydrated. Is it the same for children?
I am your fan ❤
I’m 51 and I take Zofran when I’m sick . Works great .
Love you Dr Paul 💜💙💜
Please give update on the sweet little girl. Thankyou
I’m curious what options were presented to the parents based on those results? Ex. ER for further evaluation to find bacterial source of infection? I understand letting family have privacy n their decision but what was presented to them as options?
Yes I want to know what options were presented too just because I am curious! With ears, lungs, lymph nodes, and urine coming back good I am curious as to what was the source of infection!
I've had Zofran when I was sick back in June. Couldnt keep fluid or food down. Kept vomiting with little food in my system making it hard and even impossible to eat. It does work effectively however I think it may have been a nasty bug and it was bad on my end. Zofran was helpful
It was invented for cancer patients, because previous drugs sometimes didn't work that well to prevent that most feared of chemo side effects. It's also used a lot for surgical patients, and is very safe to use during pregnancy. It also does not cause drowsiness the way some of the older drugs do.
@@sarah2.017 i use Zofran and yes it actually does make me sleepy.
@@GoldRangerFanGirl35 it relaxes me and makes me sleepy also, but not to the point I would pass out completely. It works amazingly for anxiety also, not just preventing vomiting. It always helps with my pms nausea.
I totally get that the family need privacy to make their decision about the way forward, but what were the possible ways forward? Is it just between antibiotics and not?
Thinking possibly leukemia here…don’t know the results…as an ED nurse always think about the worst first…then r/o…would need to see the numbers specifically but…hopefully she’s doing well now…peds always make me nervous in the ED…they can crash so fast…
Hello. Dr. Paul.
I wish you could teach my doctors office how to get CBC results in that amount of time. It always takes the outside lab 1-2 weeks, sometimes months before I get them
Aw poor her. Hope shes feeling better
What ended up being the outcome?
I am just curious to know what the source of infection was! As an RN everything was looking good up until the CBC! Even the urine came back good! Was it appendicitis after all?
It not that there no pain in her abdomen. I am thinking of undercooked food which can happen.
My guess is that she had an ear infection.
@@sarah2.017 not when she throwing up. You don’t throw up during an ear infection
@@misbeautifulable not medical but my husband is so I hear him taking often and it sounds like E. coli possibly. I know we had a family in our church that ended up with it in their little toddler.
@@misbeautifulable Some people do. My nieces did.
When my child was little and throwing up constantly I was instructed to give 5mils of liquid/water every five minutes to rehydrate without making the body want to bring it back up. It worked.
One difference I would like to acknowledge is my child wanted to eat/drink whereas this child didn't.
By giving only one swallow of Pedialite every few minutes, I was able to keep my 2 yr old child alive until we could get him to the ER where rotavirus was diagnosed. They transported him to another hospital where he spent 10 days recuperating. He lost 8 pounds!
