  • Meet Sebastian. He is a young boy with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy. His family wants to help me share treatment suggestions to help children like him across the world. My clinic, Child and Family Development, in Charlotte, NC, allowed me to use their facilities and their equipment to showcase Sebastian's skill and charming personality. We review techniques to reduce stiffness, encourage strength and control. I think you'll love spending time with him. Thank you to this family and my clinic for allowing this to happen.
    I also have available 3 children's educational books, "A is for Autism," "D is for Down Syndrome," "C is for Cerebral Palsy," and now 2 professional books "Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises for the Hips", and "Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises for the Knees" available on Amazon. I have forthcoming "A is for ADHD" as well. If you have questions or suggestions, feel free to contact me at amysturkey@gmail.com. Please note: I am unable to provide treatment suggestions for a child I have not personally evaluated.
    I am so honored to have people from all over the world watch my videos. I have reviewed and corrected the closed captions for this video so that you might understand what I am saying even if you don't speak English. I hope the directions below are helpful to you.
    To turn on Captions, click CC in the bottom right corner of the video
    To choose a different caption language:
    At the bottom right, click Settings. It looks like a wheel.
    Click Subtitles/CC.
    Select a language.
    If the language isn't listed when you click Subtitles/CC:
    Click Auto-translate.

    How long have you been working with Sebastian? His alignment looks great! And I can see that he worked really hard to sit back up. Good job to him! Really glad to have found your channel, I have a 6yr old client with spastic CP too. Now I have a lot to try with him!

    My brother, 11 yrs also has cerebral palsy. His movements and controls are a bit better than Sebastian but he doesn't seem to understand what we say. Of course, he understands our gestures and makes sounds like Sebastian does but not understandable words. Please do suggest some advice for him.

      Sounds like you might want to rule out first that he is hearing. Then I would recommend you consult with a local speech therapist to develop a customized program to develop his expressive and receptive language capabilities. I am an advocate for using shorter concise Communication with children who are nonverbal. Often I supplement my communication with picture cues Or sign language to help determine what Avenue of information a child accesses the best

    You're doing a great job doc! I wanna know, do you implement therapeutic approach like NDT in sebastian's training program?

    • @pediatricPTexercises
      @pediatricPTexercises  2 роки тому +1

      I am NDT trained so it certainly influences me. I don’t focus on any particular technique. I just have found overtime what works for me and gives results with my kids. There is not good clinical efficacy for NDT
