- In this video, we'll be testing a Damascus steel knife to see how sharp it is made. We'll be surprised at how sharp it is!
Damascus steel is a type of steel that is made from two different types of metal. The two metal layers are randomly put together, which makes for a very sharp blade. If you're wondering how sharp a knife made of a metal chain will turn out, watch this video to find out!

timing chain so it is high carbon steel and will harden and sharpen very easily, making it into a billet however is not so easy
This dude makes nice stuff. It just kills me that he doesn’t ever wear enough PPE.
I guess he’s always got his safety squints on.
Ya, why bother with the apron at this point 😂
lets buy this guy a face shield
Great job but that saw would be a no go
That's a very cool damascus pattern! I wish you could've did a coffee soak to really make that pattern pop!
That saw is so dangerous, makes me cringe every time 😂
I loved the little sparkler your knife had. Absolutely fantastic. Keep it going!
Outstanding work as always 👏👏
Have you thought about taking all your random Damascus pieces and making Damascus from them?
I’d be willing to bet that he has already done something similar to what you described
Very cool 🙂
Beautiful work, your choice of materials are spot on- that timing chain is a hard and tough material 👍
I love your work!! How much for this knife? Id like to purchase.
The pattern of this damascus are beautiful 😍
I will forever see that grinder-mounted saw blade in my nightmares. Lovely knife though!
"absolutely gorgeous"
...thank you for the post, absolutely appreciated.,...
Nice work. I'm surprised he has any fingers left though. All the non guarded blades being used free hand 😮

*This is brilliant. Wonderful mind and skill to do it. Bravo.* 🔥💚
This place has the "back at the shop with pops and big bro" vibes, i love it
Great job, amazing! but I have a question: can you do a kukri? or do you only make knives? It would be awesome if you made one! But it's just a humble wish. this video was amazing!
You're like scarface with the borax 😂 wicked knife as always though
Toll 👍👍👍👍
has a beautiful wood grain look. thats not a chain type i see much of here in the states, but i bet if you cut strips of it and laid it in a canister with its side open then covered with a constrasting colored steel powder and did three layers of that in a canister it would be a truly epic pattern. thanks for the awesome work man, definitely liked and subbed. your power hammer is boss btw!
smart and economical in a sense.. nice content ❤
Zero ppe real smart lol
I can’t believe no glasses
Great skills bro.
Great work. The lack of safety is a little jarring. The only step left to make it less safe is to do it nude.
Seems like a lot of work and wasted chain steel for that size of knife, I would have used some high carbon 52100 into the mix. I mostly do stock removal knives but I've forged a few as well and I don't use near that much borax as you did. 20+ years being a professional brick and block mason those skills flowed over nicely into forging for me. But I find stock removal rewarding as well. Your beveling technique was interesting, I just don't get why you just didn't hammer forge the beveling? This video has inspired me to do a forging video! I got some super high carbon round bar stock I found at a oil well site, did a spark test on it and its some high quality steel!
Great video 🔥
Beautiful work. As I know nothing about it but enjoy watching your videos, please tell me what is that powder you sprinkle over the forging and what is its purpose. Thank you.
You are very innovative.
He does nice work but not really innovative. Blacksmiths have been making knives from chains and other misc. metals for years.
Every material that man has made has been used to make a knife
I actually like that knife would like to have it
Another great knife build brought to you by 20 mule team borax.
Remember the golden ratio, 5 kilograms of borax for every 1 kilogram of steel.
You should oil the blade at the end to show the pattern better
Magnifique ! vous êtes un Maître !
You should participate in "forged in fire". You would win every episode! Great work!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Not necessarily. The show puts people under stresses that they normally don't encounter. You have to think those guys are punching put knives in 5 hours or less. That's not the case here. Some of these takes a week or more. Guy is obviously skilled and knows his way around though and would likely fair just fine.
😅😊

I agree with RC daily
Super jest ten cały nóż zrobiony pozdrawiam mile i serdecznie 👍👍👍👍👍
Dude, I enjoy your channel very much. But please put some eye protection on you and the guard on the grinder. dont risk your health so needlessly.
"you can tell an artist what to do , but not how to do it"
Nice welding gloves.
What is the white powder used
have the same question
Loving the copious borax
Another amazing video 🫡👍
What is white powder and what is its function?
He literally made a Chain blade :)
Metal-working just looks so awesome. I love how red and orange and yellow the metal glows. It almost looks like candy at one point.
This is just a guess, but I think it's flux, probably borax.
Forgive my poor spanish
Borax probalamente.
What’s that white powder you’ve put on it Is it to bond the metal together
👍👍👍👍👍. 👏👏👏👏👏
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Now let’s see you forge it back into a chain.
Great job yet again 👏 ive never seen anyone use borax in anywhere near the quantities you do though 😂 but cant fkn argue with the results so whatever works hey.
Whats the white powder for and what the name of it
What’s the white stuff being put onto the red hot metal
What is the white powder?
Borax..👍
It’s borax used as a flux it protects the metal from forming scale and other contaminants impurities
@@beanieweenie9543 thx

Pretty!
what its the white powder that he applied on the hot metal? que es el polvo blanco que aplica en el metal caliente?
What is that white powder sprinkled on when heated to red?
5:52 "safety squint"
Edge retention is more important, than the sharpness bollocks
Me dá uma dica
O que é este pó branco?
E qual a funcionalidade dele?
🇧🇷

❤Amazing❤
Mantap ,,, boss 👍
What is that stuff he sprinkles on the hot metal?
Borax as a flux to exclude the oxygen. But the blacksmith uses way too much of the stuff. 20% of the amount would have been enough.
Great job! For our young viewers...can I recommend gloves + ear and eye protection?
Beautiful work! Not much for safety precautions though are you. You are obviously highly skilled, it would be a shame if you got hurt and couldn't do this anymore.
Yes im ignorant but what is that u sprinkle on the chain?
what’s the name of that powder??
What is this white powder?
🇮🇩👍
👍🔥🔪
You can make an episode of repairing your table corner
What is the white stuff any body know?
Borax as a flux to exclude the oxygen. But the blacksmith uses way too much of the stuff. 20% of the amount would have been enough.

I think at 'Forced in Fire' they would be shocked hahaha, that amount of flux.... and ... just connecting 'open' metal structure... they always warn for inclusions of 'stuff' in the metal like this.
Serbuk warna putih itu namanya apa . . . ? .
Fungsinya untuk apa . . . ? .
🙏🙏🙏
Fix that f***ing powerhammer!!!!!!!!!!
How is this kind of metalchain named?
Yeah raw power, no gloves!!!!
Pungsi serbuk putih itu untuk apah?? Dan apah nama dari serbuk itu??
do you ever just get the urge to put your hand behind the sparks
Que es el polvo blanco?
Borax
The answer is, it depends on who is sharpening it, and how. I have carbon steel knives that I can fillet paper with. Any reasonably hard metal can be made razor sharp if sharpened correctly.

Did you just slice through an old Machinery's Handbook? I love your videos but am concerned for the outdated information in that book. It was satisfying seeing that cut, all joking aside.
id like to send you some safety glasses
wow
