It's 2020 and this mom is still liberating people from soggy taco shells!!! The perfectly crispy taco shell has eluded me for years. I've had the oil too high this entire time and used an inferior brand of tortilla to fry. They now come out as they do at the taqueria down the street from me. This is LEGIT the WAY!!!
I tried frying taco shells and they didn't turn out well at all. I went to You Tube and typed in How to make toco shells & got your video. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! You rescued my meal😁
Thanks for this tutorial I accidentally picked up corn tortillas instead of my usual flour tortillas and I wasn’t sure what to do now I realize that corn taste so much better than flour for 🌮.
My mom is now disabled but before she lost her ability to cook she made these for every taco night. These are my favorite things she made so I wanted to give it a go. Thank God for UA-cam tutorials!
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING, THAT'S THE BEAUTY OF TACOS, FILL IT WITH WHAT YOU LIKE...... TRY IT WITH ONE PARMESAN CHEESE PACKET AND DICED GREEN ONIONS...... YUM....... CHRISTINA
I've been following your tips for several months. I never knew there was a smooth side to a corn tortilla, but there is! Knowing that and lower heat made all the difference in the world. My tacos are a lot better!
I have never known how to do this. And i never even tried once. I watched this ONE time, tried to make a few shells as practice and they came out PERFECTLY. Way better than store bought hard shells because these stay crispy without falling apart like store bought does. Thank you for this video.
Thank you for this! My hubby is 1/2 hispanic and on his father side they fry the shells with the cooked meat. I had never done tacos like this before as my mother always just bought the boxed taco shells. One night i told hubby i wanted true tacos and he was so excited. He didnt think this white girl could do it lol, but i nailed it. Made the traditional deep fried chicken tacos. Even did tortilla chips and bean dip. However i did it this way first, wich i personally prefer as they are way less greasy. Thank you again luv!
I beg to disagree, ma'am. I'm half Mex/American and my mom was from England. Traditional to me, because of how my mom made them would have to be hamburger meat (fried with the cooked meat inside them) topped with lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese... but to each, his own! Also I hate those damn floppy corn tortillas with only meat in them. When I asked for tacos at a Mex restaurant in Chicago (my truck driver days) they brought me floppy tacos and said they were "estilo Jalisco" (Jalisco style) tacos. I said that was estilo lazy ass, and to take em back, fry em and put lettuce, tomato, onions and cheese. Of course because I made them work "extra-hard" they charged me more.
This worked for me! Thank you for demystifying this process. I fry one at a time in a small pan and use a wooden spoon across the pan to rest half of tortilla while the other half gets crispy. I only make four tacos at a time.
This is what I was looking for, the technique. You make it look easier than I know it is. Wish I could stand in your kitchen and watch you do a tray full of these. Last thing, your voice was made for doing these types of videos. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I tried this, and it took until my third try to get it to work. The first two fell apart; probably because they weren't fully thawed after freezing them. The one that worked was so good, especially with a little salt. This is going to save me so much money! :)
I don't know why. But after watching many of these videos on how to make shells. I trust you, unlike the others that I don't trust. You are a Latino and not someone named Bob.
Great video, thank you so much. I decided to try them and since I am lazy I decided to cut jalapeños in half long ways and put them inside the tortillas when it came time to fold them and keep them open.I used one maybe one and a half jalapeños per shell.... once they got rather brown I replaced them with new ones so as not to get a burnt flavor. 😊
I could listen to your voice all day… It’s so pretty, you should read bedtime stories, I’d pay good money to listen to that… Thanks for the tortilla advice, good luck to you!!
Yes, thank you so much! I decided to replicate Roberto's Chicken Tacos and started looking for help in frying the taco shell properly. Now to fry the shells and put together their simple ingredients: chicken, cheddar cheese and lettuce, so simple y muy delicioso! Muchas Gracias🌺🌹🌻🌼💐🏵🌷
What a great video! First I never realized there was a smooth side on the tortilla and the technique makes so much sense. I also love that you have a favorite pan and it doesn’t look new from the stove - mine sure don’t.
I never comment. But I really enjoyed the simplicity without any music or the attrics in your video. While learning things. Thank you so much for that🥰
i made some myself. they turned out super good. i wish I would of had the brains to get some cooking gloves, but i had to much faith in myself and i got several burns on my fingers. now that im fully recovered from them i can type this comment 10/10 great tacos worth the burns.
What? I never noticed there was a smooth side & a bumpy side. My hubby always cooked his shells on med high. I’m going to try your method next time. Thank you
I had one like that n my stupid ex thought it was trash and threw it away without asking. Then buys me a new set Teflon coated. Great thanks but why did my most trusty frying pan where I would get the most flavor after searing meats etc. N we weren't even together anymore. Lol I will try your way tonight for my turkey tacos.
i love the strategy you used to share with us too make this taco shell, it helped me because had tortillas that i bought but wanted a taco shell, this was very convenient for me, thanks sssoooo much
Thanks for posting this! I thought that’s how it’s done, but I wanted to make sure before doing it. If I can say one thing (respectfully). I know you love that pan. On a coated non-stick pan. Once it gets scratched to where you can see the metal, it’s leaching toxic chemicals into your food. I’m not throwing shade or telling you to get a new pan. I just wanted to pass that along in case you didn’t know. Thank you again for this video 😃
I not Mexican, but I love to cook all kinds of food and bought some masa harina and a cast iron tortilla press from my local Hispanic grocery store just so I can make tortillas for tacos, and burritos, and make tamales and empanadas. I can't wait to try this as your taco shells look so delicious, Christina.
Wow! I love homemade tortillas, I hope yours are delicious, tacos are always 100% better (not fried) with homemade tortillas. I recommend store bought tortillas for frying, because they are thinner and do not retain so much grease when fried. Homemade tortillas will retain more grease because they're thicker. You might want to make gorditas and sopes on a flat grill or cast iron pan without lard or oil and are sooooo gooooooooooooooodddddd. LOl This is making me hungry! Please let me know how your masa adventure is coming along. Make some videos! Share with us. Christina
Great video. I have a favorite fishing rod that's really old and beat up, but I love it like you love your pan. Three minutes isn't very long to fry them up. Thanks for making this...
I just had pre-packaged shells yesterday and they were sooo stale. I felt like they were going to cut my gums. I agree homemade is better than pre-packaged taco shells!
Making shredded beef tacos in the crockpot tonight and needed to know how to do these shells! I miss these style tacos from California now that I live on the East Coast and they don’t do authentic out here!! Gotta try to do it myself now...thank you!!!
I just wanted to add that I also think Guerrero is the best because the other tortillas came apart in layers when fried, but these tend to stay together.
Watching you is just like asking one of my Latino GF for help. Us Italians and Latinos, we take food VERY seriously 😂 Thank you SO much for this easy tutorial.
Also, I LOVE fried corn tortillas!!! My taste buds have changed as I’ve aged. Both Fried corn tortillas and cilantro, I can’t seem to get enough LoL. Hope you are well during this time. Warm hugs and well wishing. Christina
THANK YOU, I DO HOPE IT HELPED...... AS YOU CAN SEE, I'M STILL AFRAID OF GETTING BURNED, EVEN AFTER 35 YEARS OF COOKING......LOL THEY ARE TOTALLY WORTH MAKING AND EATING.... MAKE YOURSELF SOME GLOVES, THERE IS A LINK TO MAKING THEM...... LOL HAPPY SATURDAY...... CHRISTINA
I just make traditional tacos. I don't wait to mold them into shells. Good video. I fry my tortillas in pork fat. Tastes good and gives me optimal amounts of Vitamin D.
I’m going to try this right now. The only thing I will do differently is not stack the the new ones on the old ones. The oil will get on the old ones from the newer ones but great vid
Thank you for watching I appreciate it. I think it should work, have you fried other foods with it? I've never used grape seed oil . You may use Crisco or lard as well.
That's how you make real Mexican tacos. I had a friend and they were a Mexican American family and after work on the weekend his wife would make this. OMG great video.
Thank you Justme! I'm sure you can, but they'll be very greasy because flour tortillas are made with fat and they might break apart. Flour tortillas are used for burritos or quesadillas. I would love to hear back from you if you fry them. Good luck!
I love how you said your frying pan has seen better days. Haven't we all😅
Thank you so much for watching.
Probably has tons of flavor too
Your pan is the reason I knew I didn’t have to look up any other video! Thank you!

My Kitchen Corner lol when my mom was not home I make 1 taco shell and I add dumplings in it also I put Sriacha and seaweed on it

You’re the only one on UA-cam that knows how to properly fry taco shells! You’re the bomb! You know how to hold them open with the thongs! 😂
Very nice. I've been making Mexican food for over 35+ years and I still learned something new today watching this. Thanks!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WATCHING, I'M GLAD THIS WAS HELPFUL. CHRISTINA

Aw Kellie! Thank you for watching. I hope your tacos turned out nice and crispy.
Can you put stuff in them like cheese while making them
I only have grape seed oil, will it still work?

Hi will this work with flour tortillas?
Thank you Justme! I'm sure you can, but they'll be very greasy because flour tortillas are made with fat and they might break apart. Flour tortillas are used for burritos or quesadillas. I would love to hear back from you if you fry them. Good luck!
How much oil to fry the tortillas
