Love your videos. They make this old man from Colchester, Ontario want to get out and see the rest of the world, especially the North. I've been to Whitehorse and Haines Junction, but these videos make me want to check out Dawson City too. It's fascinating to think that the permafrost is melting out there. I wonder how many millimeters it retreats every year? Maybe one day it'll retreat past Dawson City? And all those shacks. Don't even get me started on those shacks. Somehow they've found a way to monetize mouldy plywood with a fresh coat of pain on it, and I give them all the credit in the world. There's something so special about the North, so fresh and clean. I first fell in love with it after reading Pierre Berton's biography detailing his early years. Nothing like it. Those generic trees. That great moss.
Thank you. I'm happy you appreciate them. The North really is a magical place with amazing people. I hope you get a chance to check it out.
Good afternoon Steve I think I will be walking there soon
Golden days!
My mom and I stopped here in about 2010. While we were looking around the place, a pickup flew into the yard and a fellow jumped out and accused us of stealing from him. I thought he and his buddies were going to jump me. After a few minutes of ranting about people ripping him off and how he was going to go look at the videos to see if we were lying to him, he changed his demeanor 180 degrees and invited us back to pan for gold. We stayed away.
It was a cool place though, too bad the welcome was so bloody rude.
This sign made me chuckle:
