Regarding the puzzle, ...Rxg2 is crushing I think...
In the case of KxR, ...Rg8+ (second Rook)
    If Kh1, that's ...QxN followed with ...BxQ#.
    If Kh3, then ...Qf5+ followed with ...Qg4#.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's the solution.

After KxR, ...Rg8+ is indeed the simplest way to win, but just for cat and mouse fun I think BLK could also play ...BxN+; QxB, Rg8+, but only if you enjoy tormenting your opponent before you finish him off.

Puzzle at 6:34 best move is Rg2.
If white plays Rg1, then trade rooks and move your other rook over to Rg8 to continue the attack
If white takes with Kxg2, then still Rg8 and it's mate in 2
If white plays h3 to get some breathing room, then Qf4

    • @robethwilburfabriga7746

before move rg8 i think bxn is better then if qxb then then qxq on f6 check. move for white is either rg7 blocking the queen then that;s the time for rg8 the only move left since white rook cant take black rook since it's illegal the queen is pinning the king then kg8 for black then qd1 check mate.

14:18 - There's a military term for it. Oblique Order. The principle is concentrating your forces against one flank while delaying any action on the other flank. Most famously it was used in the Battle of Leuctra to end Sparta's military greatness.
It seems that an oblique order attack can also work in Chess.

Hello - Love your teachings -
for black - after d5 and b5 happens - I understand that the only good square for the white light square bishop is to go back to f1, if it moves to b3 or d3, would black chase and move Na5 or Nd4 (depending where white bishop moves) to attack the now would be trapped white light-squared bishop?

  • @aljoschadenizjonsdotter

@6:37 first thought (no additional thinking) Rxg2 with the idea that if white takes we bring the other rook with check and we just jemoved the defender of the knight without losing out on tempo. A fork is threatened and stuff happens. But I'm not sure whether it's "efficient" to sac a rook. Depending on your understanding of efficiency it may or may not be.

  • @DrummerLP
    @DrummerLP 19 днів тому

Q: Would you agree with the following:
In the Fried Liver Attack, when Black doesn't defend correctly, it is generally considered better to attack with the Knight first as it directly threatens the crucial f7 square, creating a more immediate and powerful attacking threat compared to the Bishop; the Knight sacrifice on f7 is the key element of the attack.
I do understand most of this, but then if the bishop takes first forcing the Black King to move - then he can’t castle either side unless doing it manually.
I get that the night is a sacrificial night to take the rook and mess up the king side just wondering what your thoughts are GM Smirnoff?-
    thanks a lot!

(11:27) I think it's best to believe Stockfish when it says that one side is markedly better than the other. Having said that, Stockfish has a "computer defense" in mind that leads it to that evaluation. Objectively, Stockfish is almost always correct - that's why it can defeat Magnus Carlsen with relative ease. However! Humans often cannot find the "computer defense." This is what makes lines like this playable. Attacking moves are often easier to find than defending moves.

(2:50) Oddly, Stockfish thinks that white's best option (but only slightly) after 9...h6 is 10.Nxf7 as opposed to 10.Nh3. I guess that just goes to show how desperate white's position already is. :)
10.Nxf7 has an evaluation of -3.61 in favor of black whereas 10.Nh3 (Stockfish's second choice) has an evaluation of -4.03 in favor of black.

That's probably because deep down you don't have any desire to really trick or "crush" people in their efforts to get a feeling of crushing someone themselves. I'm 900 and you see this so often, but the desire to become more competitive is based on emotional injuries, and not out of pure desire. But yeah, saying all that, it's quite hypocritical of me because otherwise I wouldn't be here trying to learn this

14:07 Implies that 'Artifical Castling' would result in Checkmate. However if Black were to Artifical Castling, on the next move, Black could just Block Check with Bishop to F3. Black would need to move G4 to E2 first. If Black takes with the King, it's Mate in 2. If Black takes with the Queen, it's Mate in 1.

First (at :13) I see that although the Bishop is hanging, nothing is defending that b-pawn. But if I grab it, I also lose my d-pawn. Can't do Qh5 becuse the knight covers it. If I don't go Bb3, I lose it. I could take the Knight on c6, but that opens that file for the Black Queen. Nf7 is a move, but my pawn prevents the Bishop from protecting, yet, the King is still flushed out and can't castle if it takes. If it doesn't take, I take the queen, or then pawn takes the c6 Knight with discovered check if it does.

At 05:55, isn't better for Queen to take knight at F3?
Because after White Queen takes, Bishop B7 takes, and pawn G2 can't take back because it's pinned by the rook at G8.
Whatever white's next moves, it all leads to checkmate because Rook G8 captures Pawn G2, King can't take because it's defended so King moves to H1, Rook moves back G4 and it's checkmate.

Nevermind, I see Pawn H2 move to give space for White king to escape.

Hello. I love playing the Fried liver attack as white. However some Blacks play the Na5 often destroy my attack as white cos i don't want to lose my white bishop in this opening. What is the best move for white against the knight on a5 pls ?

    one more Q:
    After the black Qd5
if white moves Nc3 attacking Blk Queen and protecting white bishop on b5,
would black then move Bd7 to protect check and fork to black rook on a8
and then Q can attack white’s pawn on G2 to threaten rook then check to white King

I love this. The correct move against someone who’s never played against this is so unnatural. I generally avoid Nf6 entirely as black in these opening’s because I just don’t like playing the mainline. These are the sort of moves engines just don’t get. The “there’s only one good move and it’s hard to find” is much more effective than these 5 moves are slightly better than eachother we see in top engine lines. If you plug this into the lichess players database, more than double the amount of people play Bx instead of Bf1. 226k to 60k
Definitely going to add this to the old repertoire. After going through the Bf1 lines just in case lol.

Realistically, you lose more than winning, but eventually, your skill set improves and you start to win more. Igor has helped me greatly. After about 100 losses against bot Noam, I finally beat him today!

I have a version of Stockfish 16 on my Mac that is good for practicing chess openings. After B5 why not Bxp pinning the knight? Yes, there are still a lot of exchanges but Stockfish still gives the advantage to white. Bf1 is safe and Stockfish still thinks white is ahead because of the extra pawn but white is still down on development.

This has helped me a lot. But sometimes after Qxd5 they play Nc3 and I seem to screw up trying to get my queen to safety and protect the night on c6...
