    Please consider and take note that the body of the Coconut Trees can be use for furniture making, or even as temporary house foundation. The leaves for makeshift roof and handicraft, the juice of the Coconut fruit as water quencher, coconut meat eaten as is or cooked to get coconut oil, the shell of the fruit as cups or saucer or charcoal. Don’t worry, help is coming! A group of friends here in NYC have donated to help Pilar specifically. Will be sending a family member from Surigao to hand the relief goods personally. My cousin and his friends who are physicians are already volunteering in the community hospital as well. Don’t lose hope, there are still plenty of generous and compassionate people in the world. The Filipinos are great company in times of disasters, they are very resilient people, they always have a smile and a helping hand even in the most darkest and difficult times. My prayers to the family and the entire Filipino people who are affected with this super typhoon. Remember, God is always with you, which is the truest meaning of Christmas!

    Story is an inspiration for all kids & everyone in the way that she is able to cope with the devastation all around her as a little girl who experienced the horror of the super typhoon.Stay strong & stay safe Eight
    Miles From Home.Siargao can recover & would even turn the place around much better than before,just
    like the victims & the areas affected by Yolanda in 2013 that hit Tacloban ,where about 7,000 people
    died from the water surge & everything got flattened out from the very strong wind they haven't experienced
    before.Siargao will come back stronger & better as well, but would take sometime.

    • @aphilippinesadventure9184
      @aphilippinesadventure9184 2 роки тому +3

      Storm surge is usually much more dangerous than the storm itself. These can be deeper than 20 ft in depth and kill thousands as you say. A big factor is luck- whether the storm hits at low tide or high tide. From what I saw in Bohol, we were at much less than high tide, which probably saved a lot from death or further damage.

    • @Moss_piglets
      @Moss_piglets 2 роки тому +2

      @@aphilippinesadventure9184 exactly! People should never underestimate storm surges. But what really surprised me the most when we lived in the Philippines was that windows were not boarded up to prevent damage especially homes near coastal towns. We also lived in the Caribbean where hurricanes are frequent. People there boarded as protection even if they decided to evacuate.

    • @aphilippinesadventure9184
      @aphilippinesadventure9184 2 роки тому +2

      @@Moss_piglets The Philippines is typhoon country! It would seem to be obvious, even if you are off the normal track as they are or in Bohol, on occasion, typhoons forget their original instructions and go where they will, with predictable results. The lack of OBVIOUS preparations is astounding and contributes greatly to the loss of life and destruction. Long before any typhoon, you have your plywood window covers fitted and tucked away for use. Trees can be removed to prevent their falling on houses or cars. If you are building new, the house can certainly be built to minimize storm impact.
      I am sure glad that these folks are ok and can rebuild over time, but the lack of interest in taking OBVIOUS precautions is amazing. As you know, when you see a hurricane coming to Florida, you see on TV these homes and businesses all boarded up. Bohol was hit pretty hard, and most of the undamaged buildings survived well for a reason. Our house is undamaged, with much destruction all around. It's a hard lesson but I hope it is well learned for their own good!

    Dont lose hope to philippines. Philippines is such a wonderful country. Its just that its a tropical type of country so storms and typhoons normally hit it every year. But with resilincy of filipinos and its country itself os very very unimaginable. We can survive anything. Just be positive! Siargiao will heal! Siargiao will survive! Siargao will rise again! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

      I think for the typhoon to hit this area is unusual. Never heard of any typhoon hitting Siargao this strong. It's probably one of those rare events -- like the super typhoon that hit New York and Tacloban years ago. I was in NY when Sandy happened. Lived there for 20 years with no hurricane and then we were suddenly hit. Climate change.

    The cacophony of the chain saw gives you a sense of relief that rehabilitation and reconstruction is here and now, at least some semblance of return to normalcy after a massive devastation of property and vegetation. Hopefully utilities will be back; after all, potable water is essential. God protect you all and keep you safe always. 🙏
