Every time I get that lame old tired line from Christians about how their faith is unique and how “their god” is responsible for morality and moral codes.., I refer them to the Hammurabi. What’s really sad is how they immediately dismiss it and claim the Hammurabi borrows from the Bible. The vast majority I speak to have no clue what it is.., and just “faith away” it’s existence.
Oh wow, your Kent Hovind is so good I could honestly get fooled it is really him! Oh and I decided to subscribe. Perhaps you remember me commenting that I might do that. I must add that you are now one of the people I would love to read a Chick Tract with Hugo and Jake. In Kent Hovind voice.
Sorry Dr Josh, at 1:02.00 all i could think about was The Court Jester: Griselda : Listen. I have put a pellet of poison in one of the vessels. Hawkins : Which one? Griselda : The one with the figure of a pestle. Hawkins : The vessel with the pestle? Griselda : Yes. But you don't want the vessel with the pestle, you want the chalice from the palace! Hawkins : I don't want the vessel with the pestle, I want the chalice from... the what? Jean : The chalice from the palace! Hawkins : Hmmm? Griselda : It's a little crystal chalice with a figure of a palace. Hawkins : The chalice from the palace has the pellet with the poison? Griselda : No, the pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle. Hawkins : Oh, oh, the pestle with the vessel. Jean : The vessel with the pestle. Hawkins : What about the palace from the chalice? Griselda : Not the palace from the chalice! The chalice from the palace! Hawkins : Where's the pellet with the poison? Griselda : In the vessel with the pestle. Griselda : The chalice from the palace has the brew that is true. Jean : Don't you see? The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle. Griselda : The chalice from the palace has the brew that is true! Jean : It's so easy, I can say it. Hawkins : Well then you fight him! Griselda : Listen carefully. The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle, the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true. Hawkins : The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle, the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true. Jean : Good man! One of my favorite movies. Great stuff though.
Hey Doc, I absolutely love Megan and you as well as the channel obviously. I am a new subscriber after seeing you on Non Sequitur and my boy Paulogia’s, and plan on making a generous donation to the grant. Keep up the good work!
Thank you. This was awesome. I'm learning so much, and I think it is great that you are sharing your knowledge and scholarship. A question for you, based on the laws you read I got the impression that women were owned by either their father, husband or master as they are in the bible. Is that correct?
Now that i think of it... The end is basically "may he who violate the copyright of my lawcode not be able to rule or have children"... Then the bible violates the copyright... Israel dissapears for a long time but they can still have children... Wich means the judge reduced their sentence for some reason... And now that israel exists again, it means they either apealed or they ended their sentence... Maybe?
I love that someone asked Josh to do that Blackadder pretending to be crazy in Kent Hovind voice. I was planning to ask it myself some time. ; ) How much a shekel would approximately be in modern currency?
Thank you! And yes, this will be a different translation :) Mainly down to the fact that L.W. King's translation was published in 1898, and not only has our understanding of Akkadian changed in the last 120 years, but so has the way we use English.
Is Hammurabi, shown in the displayed picture, wielding the same curved stick with a loop in it as we can see Ishtar holding in both hands in some sculptures??
Can you give some explanations about Shamash horned head gear and other gods horned head gear.? What is the norm and which gods had what amount of horns? I cant find info anywhere
lol.... paradox alert. I'm as much a science (and sci fi) nerd as I am a history nerd. Going to totally mess up the spelling so not even going to try... for some mouth bending language groups I don't think uou can beat some of the Mesoamerican Groups. ;)
Well, the problem is that they all seem to day "my god told me this laws"... So... Either every god is the same gos with a horrible sense of humor who liked to watch everyone fight for him/her... Or some gods dont have any respect for copyright...
epic christ Yes we are well aware the Judeo/Muslim/Christian claim to have a corner market on God. And it's exactly the same as Hammarabi's claims for all of his preference in deities. Remember *Amen Ra* next time you pray. 🙏 Clearly you have a patchwork quilt type religion.
So... Learn how to swim... Dont marry, dont have children, dont have slaves... You can comit most crimes without punishment :D "i can kill your son and you cant do nothing about it"
Your shirt and coffeemug are black, you say. All I can see, is that your shirt, coffeemug and eyes are all blue! Logic requires me to ask: are your eyes also black?
This guy does blathers on and on and on it kind of unreal... I guess hell does exist.... For the first literally 14 minutes here before he gets into the subject.
Josh, as much as I like being showered with compliments, stop it. YOU are the one who is incredible, we just love what you do.
Oh I lost it at the Hovind reading.
I love the "holding screen"! I don't even fast foward it! 😂😂😂
The channel is really improving... Bravo ! 😊

You guys are still my favorite, it's awesome seeing you guys grow.
That Stele is Awesome!
Lovely basalt. Easy to work (despite what Von Daniken might say), fine enough for detailed work and takes a nice varnish from hands over time.

I had forgotten this comment of mine. LOL I got to to urge Hannah (Hugo's new name) and Jake to have you both as guests. ; )
Starts at 2:00 very interesting!
Vinegar helps the image to cure properly. The smell goes away after about a day.
Love when you sang Psalm 23 at about 1hr 38min!!

One of my favorite movies.
Great stuff though.

Hilarious voice impersonations but even better scholarship! LOL!

Interesting take but Israel ended their sentence by engaging in a genocidal Bloodbath and forcible relocation of mostly innocent non-combatants.

Woman that serve for special services wow 58:18 that is like the handmaid's tale.
Someday I'm going to get a big red dog and name him Marduk :)
THank you so much. I was a little confused because your translation was different than the L. W. King
Thank you!

On the practice of “sabbath “ did this exist prior to genesis or the creation of Pentateuch
I like the NIV but most Christians I know hate it. I like it because it notates if the manuscripts differ.
Damn that was erected for so many years... Are you sure that law code doesnt have priapism?
That voice impersonation is funny when you do it without guest present. I cringe when you do it in front of guest though 😳😬
Yes we know that israeli laws have similiar to other nations. Lol that makes sense. I mean we have same laws as other nations aswell.
It’s actually a fairly significant point, given the conclusions that some draw regarding the nature of the biblical texts.
Well, the problem is that they all seem to day "my god told me this laws"... So... Either every god is the same gos with a horrible sense of humor who liked to watch everyone fight for him/her... Or some gods dont have any respect for copyright...
@@gingercore69 God told them what laws they should have in the land of israel.
@@epicchrist2941 so you're saying there was nothing original about god's laws and he may have gotten them from other nations?

I wonder if Trump had read any Hammurabi. Same level of bragardly behavior.

Trump? Read? C’mon son 😂
@@MMAGamblingTips Maybe the is a Hammurabi picture book.
