My preference would be for stone paving around the walkways and perimeter of the house.
This will anchor it, be less maintenance and give you a flow around the house. It could even be extended as terrace into the future. With the amount of land you have, you will have ample flower and green areas to break up the contrast. Also - planting in movable pots will give you lots of style and landscaping choices.
Whatever you decide….will be considered and magnificent ❤️

That little piece of furniture on the kitchen counter is Dutch. The word eiren means eggs, meel means flour, rijst is rice, vermicelli is noodles, koffie is coffee, suiker is sugar, thee is tea. Incredible, they have a small piece of Dutch culinary culture. 😊😊👍👍

Since you asked, I think placing a stone aisle around the house would be best insted of sand, especially when the rainy season comes, the sand can become too soft, making entering the home more difficult and the shoes would get dirtier too. Stone looks more elegant and finished, giving a space a polished look. You don't have to do it right now, but it would look beautiful. Congratulations in everything you have done. Fantastic!!!

Perhaps a stone or brick path around the entrance will keep the dust down around the entrance and tie into the outdoor patio.
It's always nice to live in the space and get the feel of it before purchasing pieces that make your home personal. I like this idea. I think this first bedroom will make a wonderful office. The ceiling light fixture in the bedroom is very beautiful. The stainless backsplash in the kitchen adds another amazing detail to the room. It reflects the light and your movement. Awesome choice.
A bientôt 👏👏👏👍😃🏡

Definitely make a stone or paver walkway around the house! Gravel will just add to the dust and you will forever be cleaning it out of everywhere! Instead of grass that can grow fast and require cutting, you can get seeds of native or environment-compatible ground cover that has limited vertical height. Consider creating concrete risers and topping with brick or stone pavers to create WIDE steps from the higher parking elevation to the walkway around the house.

Beautiful! So much love and hard work poured into this home! Have you heard of a sensory garden before? I can imagine one along the side of the house next to the driveway. The idea is that it has something for each of the five senses. For example an aromatic kitchen herb garden overflowing onto the path, the light crunch of a gravel pathway underfoot, and of course the panoramic view of the nearby town. Thank you for sharing your project, it’s all very inspiring :)

13:00 - stone paving, not gravel. Easier (and safer) for all ages to walk on, transport heavy or large items over (on a dolly for example), easy to sweep clean, permanent once done - while gravel is always 'shifting'. The bench on the terrace outside (35:40) could repeat the elegant design of the chair backs and seats - using chestnut for the slats and treated with three coats of pure Tung oil. The slats can be attached with 'blind' deck screws to two long pieces of chestnut underneath. However, I have to say that the entirety of your home combines the science of architecture and the art of design in one of the most appealing, inviting and refreshing combinations I have seen (in my 55 years of building and renovating). You deserve an award from the architectural community, but more importantly it will for years to come reward you with a healthy, comfortable and restful living environment. Obviously a tremendous amount of thought has gone into your project; you are producing a model of renovation.

My recommendation would be: FIRST to "point" the exterior stone walls to mitigate the problem of Humidity becoming established within the walls. The terrace around the sides of the house could be made beautiful with a combination of flat stone and green lawn. Don't allow the garden to obscure the view of the deep valleys. I think you guys did a fantastic job so far on restoring your house!! I like the contrast of the modern to the antique. My two cents for the outside perimeter of your house is that you use the tiles. You can then angle them so that rain water will flow away from the walls of the house. It will keep the area around your house clean. I look forward to seeing your progress. And finally I would like to thank you for allowing us a look at this fantastic project. If I may share my view on the pavement I think the bloc paving done in the same fashion as the terrace is the better choice. It would create a wrap the house, give consistency and order. It almost would create an effect of house being an island. The other consideration is the practicality. It is much easier to maintain and keep the paving slabs clean.
On the other hand the paving will require regular grass cuttings. Ultimately it’s your plance so I am sure you guys will choose the best option.
PS, the house already looks fantastic, you’ve done a magnificent work and I am in awe and respect to both of you. I am a DYI er

I think you will be happier with stone paving around your door instead of gravel, which can be tracked into the house on shoes. As to the north side, gravel could do well there, but if you have enough paving stones, the continuity of material around the house would be nice. Love the idea of a pergola with vines, although it might restrict light into the kitchen. Thanks for a lovely video tour!

    Hello Again.
Thank you for inviting us into your home. It looks lovely, yes there are some niggly little jobs that still need to be done but it looks marvellous. You have turned a building site into a home. I hope you will be very happy there.
I have to say I love thrifting too. I have got some marvellous finds and deals that way. The fun is in the hunt!!! Oh I laughed so hard when you were talking about both you and Vince having challenges agreeing on a piece of furniture... sounds so familiar to me you see. It's as if you stepped into my home there for a bit.
I didn't realize that you also needed to point all the outside walls too. Makes sense when you think on it. Now that is a job!!! I guess you have to get it done before winter to protect the inner walls.
As for your garden it is said when you garden it shows that you believe in the future. I can just imagine it. It looks fantastic in my mind's eye.
    See you again next week.

I would choose to lay the tiles close to the house. More pleasant under feet and paws and easier to keep clean. We have both tiles and gravel and find the gravel unpleasant for indoor/outdoor living. The dogs do not like to walk on the gravel nor do we. The gravel is not easy to keep looking tidy and we find it hard to remove leaves etc from it without having gravel end up amongst plants and other places where. Also, the gravel travels indoors under the shoes and sometimes paws causing damage to the floors.

The yellow chairs in the kitchen bring out the blonde color on the stone wall, too. I would suggest that maybe you all balance the interior and exterior projects. This is a life marathon you have embraced. Do any of the neighbors raise goats that may be shared on your land to manage the overgrowth? Any thoughts to building a maintenance shed for the outside tools to be housed in one area? The construction site vibe will disipate as you complete different projects--I do appreciate re-purposing materials. Once you start adding in the shelving and storage area, you will fell less cluttered--I think we all have had that experience of 'in between' the start of the project that has not yet been completed--and how exasperating that can be. But this too shall pass. Enjoy the moments as you reclaim the past for your own life imprint.

I would carry the stone paving all around the house as it looks good wears well and you can plant low plants in the gaps to reduce dust.
The perennial garden on the side would also look good around the house to add a uniform appearance.
The home is really looking good and I'm looking forward to seeing more.
Maybe some rustic shelves with wrought iron supports will help with books art etc.
A rustic ladder to the mezzanine would look well with that lovely table.
Enjoy the decorating as that makes it your home.

Congratulations on the 100.000 followers!!!! Great content and beautiful renovation. Following along from the start. I would prefer the same paving as the terras all around the house as this will increase the tranquillity of the garden and the perfect connection to the surrounding. The idea of having grass iso cement in between the tiles is absolutely perfect. The stairs from the above parking to the lower garden maybe with a zig-zag stair iso a straight one... It would be one of many options to avoid it to be too steep. Big terracotta pots would be nice features as well around the house. The repair of the driveway is a huge job but essential to be connected to the nice little village ( which I know 😉)You are both great people and hard working and motivated. Hope both of you enjoy a nice summer and some time off after all this efforts and happy to see the progress on the garden. Cheers from Belgium & Italy

Ancora complimenti 😊💪💪💪

Grazie a voi. All'esterno tutta pietra sulle terrazze!!!

I thought this was going to be just a recap of everything you’ve done so far, and I almost didn’t watch it, but I saw you talking in an area I hadn’t seen so I stopped fast forwarding and watch the rest of it, and it was very interesting: many of your plans for the future, as well as what you’ve already accomplished. When you were showing us around the inside, I don’t think I had ever noticed the lintels above the doors and windows. They are so pretty! Also, I wanted to say how much I like the stone patio out your kitchen door not just because it’s pretty in & of itself, but because it will cut down on dust and dirt being tracked into the house and so therefore I recommend doing the same thing in front and on the other side of the house. (You did ask, lol)
P.S. When I was watching Vince make the patio last time, I wondered what the little tree was off to one side, so I was tickled pink to hear you say that it’s a wisteria vine! Not only are they beautiful, but they smell divine. I live in one of the most northern states in the US and there’s just no way wisteria would survive in my climate, so I am envious of anybody who can have one, lol. ❤
