  • Today we're back at K-2032. I wanted to give the AX1 another shot, but this time attached to the radio as opposed to set up on the little tripod from last activation. I'm not sure if conditions weren't as good, or if the antenna just works better away from me and the radio, but signals were weaker today, and my RST reports were worse as well. The antenna still got the job done though. While it's not the most efficient thing ever, it definitely works, and it's super convenient to set up and use. All in all it was a beautiful day for an activation. Thanks for watching and 73!

P-Car POTA is fun! I've only done one so far. I discovered my POTA chair with integrated table *just* fits in the rear trunk of the Boxster.

Yeah, it's definitely a whole different ballgame when you're trying to fit everything in a car that small!

Practical, just like the KX2, it does it all!

Great videos Evan. I have the TX500, and I just bought the Penntek TL45 Skinny. I'm looking forward to taking it out. Hopefully I'll work you sometime. You're pretty local to me (near Amsterdam), but maybe on 40 meters, or even 80 some evening. Keep the videos coming. John WA2OUZ

Yeah, 40m should definitely work. I normally do TONS of morning 40m activations during the summer. Look forward to getting you in my log!

Evan, A thought...Have you looked into the magnetic KX2 Cover that Jonathan N5FY offers (Tufteln). I switched over from the one you are using here in the video and I really like it. I feel like every time I take of the clear plastic cover off I am stressing the side plates. Not a lot of stress but a bit nonetheless. The magnetic cover is fast and easy to remove and no stress on the sideplates. Easy to store when off the radio as well. Just a suggestion though I am sure you are aware of them.

I'm aware of them. I have one for my KX1. The KX2 cover I have doesn't really fit that tight, so I'm not overly concerned about it. If I didn't have the side rails on it I'd put one of his covers on it for sure!

At 15:52 you show something on your phone regarding propagation. What app is that?

I love my KX2... but I had limited success with the AX1. Recently I bought and fielded the Gabil 7350T w/four 8'2.5" counterpoise. Yahtze! In the past I've used a PackTenna Random Wire. The simplicity and speed of deployment with the Gabil is nice.
I often operate inside my Wrangler when weather prohibits. A simple sheet of 1/4" hardwood plywood, cut to fit, hangs from the passenger headrest and grab bar. A "Shotgun!" station, if you will... The ergonomics make it a convenient and comfortable operating position. For a Porsche, you'll have to figure out what works best...
