On the other hand, historical castles and walled cities weren't generally circular since that would limit how much of the top of the wall had line of sight to any point on the base (thus preventing most archers from shooting at someone who actually reached the wall). Additionally, that neglects costal cities, which were (and often still are) the most major due to easy access to maritime commerce.

city in isekai is following the basics. need water and walls you have the main focus in the middle and spread from there. it makes sense they end up that way.
