Sustainable Ocean Initiative (SOI) Global Dialogue with RSOs and RFBs

The Sustainable Ocean Initiative (SOI) Global Dialogue with Regional Seas Organizations (RSOs) and Regional Fishery Bodies (RFBs) serves as a global platform to foster regional cross-sectoral collaboration and coordination on key fisheries and biodiversity issues. It also identifies ways to strengthen their critical roles in global processes and national implementation.
Coordinated by the CBD Secretariat, UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), with support from various partners and organizations, the SOI Global Dialogue has made significant progress in catalyzing cooperation in marine and coastal conservation and sustainable use at the regional and global levels.
With the recent adoption of the Biodiversity Plan and the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement), this platform plays a critical role in facilitating cooperation for implementation and monitoring these important instruments.
