Greta Gerwig said herself that it's very interesting that everyone chooses to hate Amy, but she's the only one who ever says what she really wants. Also, on the love triangle front, my opinion is that Laurie saw Jo's companionship and love because he had never experienced it before. He was too obsessed with Jo to even look at Amy for more than two seconds, and when Jo was gone, he finally saw Amy for her true self.
Same! This movie also introduced me to her, and after that movie I watched every movie that she did that I was allowed to watch, and she is always amazing! She’s my favorite actress!
I know everyone loved Amy's marriage speech but Jo's one in the attic about women's purpose being more than to fall in love but then she's so lonely really hit me hard when I sent to see this in cinema. It was so relatable especially in the modern sense. I think this version is a really good retelling but Winona is still the best Jo. She was perfect. I wish I could combine her and this movie.
Jo's speech was also fantastic! I think each speech fit each sister perfectly Amy's speech was pragmatic vs. Jo being an idealist and perfectly shows the difference in their personalities.
As someone who is aromantic (but sapphic sexual) and an artist/writer who values family and friendships above all else, Jo always hits me the hardest, because I see myself in her. I’ve never wanted love, and I honestly don’t feel lonely. but often times you see your friends and family with their partners and they have someone to bear the weight with, someone to rely on, it makes you feel like maybe something is broken, and it makes you feel alone. I also know what it is like to be consumed by something like art, the scene where Amy burns Jo’s writings is one of the most anger inducing scenes for me ever LOL.
Quote of the Day: “It’s just always like, when you’re young, you’re so excited for the future but when you finally get to the future, you just miss the past.”
LOVED this movie for both its warmth and heartbreak. As someone who adores Amy this is the first adaptation that got her right and her relationship with Laurie was beautiful. Your reactions as always are top tier.
And it was Meryl Streep (Aunt March) who suggested having that speech in the movie to give modern audiences context for what life was like for women at the time the story took place.
Unpopular opinion: I love the professor and I choose to believe Jo ended up with him. Not married but together. I don’t think she ever loved Laurie the way she loved him, even with that letter she wrote him.
Yeah they def romanticized Fredric for this movie lol In the book he’s like 10+ years older, and he’s not French he’s German (and way less hot). I feel like LMA was trolling the publisher and the audience with that one
oh well, choose what you want to believe since it is true for all the other versions (even the book) but in greta's version it's really implied that jo ended up single at the end of the movie
The past looks so warm, but the present is so grey because growing up sucks 😂 Also, I Love that everyone calls Florence Pugh „Miss Flo“ now. Olivia Wilde meant it in a derogatory way but Miss Flo took that name and made it hers. I’m sure she is everything Wilde wishes to be. Edit: where have you been loca gets me every time
YES thank you for this 😍 When I first saw this film (alone, just me and my cats) I wept and thought it was the loveliest, most charming, heartwarming, nostalgia-inducing thing I had ever seen ❤️ still holds up
Absolutely loved the movie and your reaction! Wrote down your quote: "when you're young you're so excited about the future, but when you finally get there you just miss the past" 😊
2:50 Fun Fact: Women were not considered eligible for secretarial positions once upon a time. Katharine Hepburn (who played Jo once) had a movie on this topic.
I grew up with the 1994 adaptation, so it will always be my favorite; however, I love so many parts of this film. I love Florence Pugh but I still think she was to old to play Amy as a kid, and the constant timeline back and forth was too much.
it's been a while since i last watched the movie, and honestly i should give it a rewatch sometime in the future, like damn i still got hit in the feels while watching this lol! it's definitely never leaving my top 5 moviesss
I love this version and it's a close second for me, but the '90s version leans more into the drama. And while the romance was only a part of the original book for sexist reasons... I still love it, ngl. But I do still love this version as well !!
i’m late to this video as i only just found ur channel, but why am i baffled by the food they sent you for the UK, im from the UK and i’ve literally never seen any of them apart from the randoms……BAFFLED
Fun Story: We had a passage from ‘Little Women’ and I didn’t know about the American Civil War then. I thought the war they were referring to was the Vietnam War and it was set in the ‘70s and they probably went rollerblading. I had no idea about time periods or maybe I wasn’t paying attention.
I don’t know if it makes a difference in how you’re paid for the advertisements, but the trailer was for don’t worry darling so I watched the whole 4 minute trailer.
I feel like Timothee's character settled for the other sister. It made me upset. The movie wasn't bad until Timothee and Florence got hitched. I know alot of yall will disagree.
Amy and Laurie end up together in the book, not to mention every other movie adaptation (of which there are many.) How exactly can the movie be bad for being a faithful adaptation of its source material.
@@thyop89 I don't care if it's stays true to it's original source material. I dont like that they end up together. I can have whatever opinon I like and I dont like them together. You can't change my mind. He settled for the other sister. They suck as a couple. I said what I said.
@@thyop89 I said the movie wasn't bad until they got married. Which means I thought movie was okay until that happened. I wasnt a big fan of the movie and the story sucks. Both can be true and are true. You cant make someone have the opinion that you want them to have.
I love this movie, but its really difficult for me to place it above the 1994 version. Both are greath in their own way, but I watched the Winona Ryder one first and it will always have a special place in my heart. BTW, I think you two should react to the new Elvis movie. I'd love to see it!
My only criticism about the movie would be that it does give NLOG (Not Like Other Girls) Vibes with respect to Jo’s character that does feel Girlbossy. I don’t know if anyone felt that.
The only thing i hate is the fact that Amy and Laurie end up together just because i don't like Laurie that much 😭 i wish he just stayed friend of the family and that's it.
@@demontrash yes! laurie spending the last years suffering for Jo and suddenly he saw Amy after she loved him and felt second of her sister all her life... i don't know
I have to disagree. Laurie sees that Amy pushes him to be a better man. I think that’s all just part of growing up - his love for Jo was unsustainable and childish but his growing love for Amy (which you do see, in his eyes and him going off to work for his grandfather rather than composing) is more grounded and adult.
@@cataryad661 finally someone who understands 😭 it’s so obvious to me that laurie completely changed (for the better) so that he could be a better man for amy

fun fact greta gave florence the "marriage economic" script like half hour before the scene filmed
wow! She performed it so well!

Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet in their second Greta Gerwig Outing? YES!
(‘Lady Bird’ is an underrated movie argue with a wall)
Lady Bird is such a good movie!
They were supposed to have cameos in Barbie but due to their busy schedules, that never happened.

Jo is the definition of “She works hard for the money.”
Amy really took “Burn Book” very seriously lmao
An underrated moment in the movie is when Jo starts crying after losing her hair.
To add to Louisa M. Alcott’s quote, Jane Austen has a similar quote: “Let other pens dwell on guilt and misery.”
Timothée Chalamet is just so beautiful and wholesome. I love him ❤
(I don’t like people who make fun of him)
Who’s excited for Greta Gerwig’s interpretation of Barbie? I know I am!
reading this comment after the release of barbie and now hearing about greta doing one for chronicles of narnia, exciting !!
I can confirm, as someone who went to school in New England, the estates are indeed beautiful.

If a hot German man told me my work was not good, I’d accept it and work on myself because hot people are never wrong, right? Right?

I loved how the characters just read out the letters while standing.
4:02 You could do it now also. Travelling was a rich people thing back then. Everything was a rich people thing.

Those British Hand Cooked/Kettle Crisps are absolutely brilliant! Even the salted crisps are brilliant!
They were so good 😊
Meryl Streep in this movie is so funny! We don’t give enough credit to her for comedy. #ThatsBecauseImRich
The scene when Jo is describing her loneliness. Felt
And Amy's speech about marriage is perfect. I'm become her fan because that scene
