Nice job. I just upgraded from x series stainless to zero stainless. I like how you keep things moving in your explanation. Let's face it, anyone who needs it super simple probably should not be rebuilding pedals! Treat yourself to some snap ring pliers. I got a set for $10 twenty years ago that has 4 interchangeable jaws for internal/external rings and straight or 90 degrees. Olympia brand I think. Got it at advance auto. Or order from China on ebay for $5 and wait a month to get them! Something is creaking in my right cleat or pedal, which is what drew me to your channel. No freeplay so doubt I need the rebuild yet. Just regressed the pedals and relubed the cleats, so I'll keep investigating for now.

Thanks ! Yes ring snap pliers are something that doesn’t get used much but when you need them, you really need them !

What size bolt did you use for removing the roller bearing? Please and thanks!

Didn’t have to be exact, but any bolt that is tapered to allow you to screw it in and the farther in It goes the tighter it gets. Sorry, I can’t find the bolt I used but you could just take it to lowes and try various sizes of bolts for one that fits.

Dude. the roller bearings didn't want to come out because you missed that there's a snap ring retaining them. If you just hammered the hell out of the bearing to get it out, you may have blown out the recess that the snap ring sits in. Plus bonus - now your needle bearings aren't retained.

Actually these didn’t have a snap ring. Physically on the outside they look the same as other zero pedals but internally I think they were an older version. I believe internally they have undergone some design changes on the newer ones. I purchased these used so not sure how old they were. Initially I thought there was a snap ring that was holding them in and tried removing what I thought was one, I even went so far as grinding a bit out in order to get at it, like I had seen In another video, but they didn’t have them. I think these were glued in because they were quite hard to get out and had what looked like glue residue on the housing.

@@MSRWorkshop Rechecking your video, there is no snap ring recess on the roller bearing side. Neat trick with the bolt getting it out. Mine wasn't glued in so once the ring was pried out it came out with a couple of taps on a drift.

DO NOT follow this procedure with the needle bearing. I did (mistakenly) and destroyed the plastic housing because there is a ring-clip retaining the bearing in place. It is difficult to see and this guy ignores it. This vid should be removed or updated to clarify this fact to prevent others from ruining their pedals.

I am fully aware that the newer models come with retaining rings for the needle bearings this is an older version and it does not and it was originally glued in. Some of the other commenters have already pointed this out and if you go and watch closely there is no retaining clip.

@@MSRWorkshop my pedals are ~20-years old, so not sure what you consider "newer"? Also, it looks like your pedals have the groove for the ring clip but you make no mention of that or that many/most pedals do have the ring-clip, which would help viewers watching your vid. Just saying...
