    Great video today full of life lessons. First off, many people would have called it a rain day and went to the house, instead you were able to get a full day of work in as well as take advantage of the good weather. Lesson- never put of until tomorrow what you can do today. The second lessons were from the Amish sawmill story. They took responsibility for their mistake and dusted themselves of and went back to work. Lesson- take responsibility and never let a setback deter you from your goals. Great video.

Again, seeing this and knowing what is involved for firewood production, I have massive respect for firewood people. Would having a wheel barrow to toss the cookies in directly save double handling?
    Are you running out of space by your gravel drive? If so would throwing the smaller rounds straight into a trailer so they can be split & stacked elsewhere be a sensible strategy.

  • @Patrick-kc5ur

    What size are you bucking those into? look like some are 18" and up to 24". My stove limit on the front load is 17" straight in. I won't do a sideways load even though a 24" would fit, because I've had "on fire" logs roll out and that's a BIG problem! I even like 13" log because they are a bit lighter for one handed loading.
    My glass door has been broken twice by closing it on a log that's 1/2" too long. Costs me $140 each time for ceramic glass.

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  2 роки тому

      Most cuts are 16" but a few are 17" and some are 15". I measure most cuts.

    I am now 69, I have been cutting firewood since I was 31. I still love to cut but it is getting to the point that I cannot last very long and I can't work on hillsides. I have 45 acres of hardwoods and only cut what nature takes down or dies. I still can't keep up with what comes down. I have a lot of hickory, maple, cherry, sasafrass, and a few other species. The last 3 years I have been cutting up my dead ash. I can't stand to see them go to waste. I have tried to hire people to help me but I can't find anyone that can keep up with me. It is sad. I love the feel of a sharp saw going through wood. I also do not like sitting around. I would rather cut wood than most other things. I have a wood indoor furnace, a fire place and 6 rental cabins on my property that I sell wood to the people that use them on the weekends.

    What kind of saw chain are you using. It seems to not kick back when the tip hits logs. Very nice saw chain!

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  3 роки тому +1

      It has nothing to do with the chain, it is in how you use the saw tip, I guess I should make a video about it sometime so you can see.

  • @Mr27moneyman

    Im sure you have addressed this before, but it seems like a lot of handling of the wood. i would think having the splitter near the pile to split the fresh cut, then stack as you split would reduce handling and help with clean up. It seems like you only like doing to aspect of firewood at a time?

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  3 роки тому

      I do not text and drive and I do not cut, split and stack at the same time too, it is very slow and unproductive, to much stopping and starting over and over. Yes, I do all the cutting then all the splitting then all the stacking then all the delivery. And yes it is a lot of touching, firewood is a lot of work, no doubt. Thanks for watching Austin!
