Wait, just noticed the high chair and the child lock. I didn't realize you were a parent Matsimus, I'm glad to see you're enjoying your Canadian life enough to start your family with us as well.
Great video. I’m guessing you have a Canadian/UK issue. The current protective mask the US Army and Marine Corps use is the M50, which replaced the M40A1. A couple of pointers if I may (I am 74D40/Chemical NCO). 1. When cleaning the mask, ONLY use cheese cloth. Although a lint free cloth is nice, it will leave small residue. 2. The Technical Manual for the M50 has a three step cleaning process. Wash, rinse, sanitize and dry for at least 24 hours. You can use about a cap full of bleach for each gallon of water to sanitize. 3. Never use anything to remove the valve disks. 4. Install new valve disks when re-assembling the mask. 5. Don’t wash the head harness. It will cause shrinkage and expansion which will reduce the lifespan. 6. When reinstalling the valve disks, pull the nub until you feel a small “pop” which means the disk is fully seated. To clarify, each valve disk has a nub extending from the seal. Insert the nubs through the hole and grasp and pull. Also, the canisters are good for about 1-2 years for training (unless they get wet). Really love your videos. Keep up the good work.
Studiously ignore near-irresistible urge to rub eyes... Very well done video, BTW Had you used the official nomenclature for each part (and provided French captioning, of course), this would be an excellent video for dissemination by the MoD. Do lefties get to switch sides for the canister? It appears changing sides is a bit more involved than simply screwing the canister in on the opposite port.
i got a Russian GP5, its basically the AK-47 of gas masks, its cheap, the most mass produced gas mask, and cleaning is fairly easy, altho original filters do have asbestos in them, a polish IP-5 filter seems to be a better alternative, also when putting it one you seem to get a strange want to yell cheeki breeki when it is on
Are You making instructional video's for the Canadian Armed Forces? Good idea. By the way. You really do not worry to much about the gas contamination of the drains. Gasses are normally not compatible with water. The only exception I can think of is the CN gas. Mustard gas is definately being destroyed by water - the problem is that it forms a shell so when it is opened it is like one of the expensive chokolate pieces that has a shell of chokolate and a semiliquid interior. We have had problems with the gas bombs dumped in the sea from WW2 - simply because they break up - otherwise the way to get rid of the stuff is to dump it back in - it just needs another millenium to break further down. Even persistent nerveagents can generally be left to themselves and the european damp weather. They evaporate like diesel fuel. CS-gas is destroyed by water, which is one of the reasons it stings like Hell when you wash your face after the Gashut. Personally I let grime take care of the disruptive process. Might make your bangers taste a bit odd though.
16:59 make sure the rubber fold from the face mask is not over top of the nose cup at the bottom as it can cause your goggles to fog. Nice video though, very informative.
You can order off eBay or kijiji. I got my C4 from kijiji but it had no filter or whatever that cover is below the voice box. It was also missing all the pieces of the right filter connection. But I do live in Canada and can easily order these parts and rebuild what I have
@@ninus17 the downside with using double filters is that you reduce the effectiveness of the de-fogging design purpose of having an inner mask with inlet valve on the opposite side to the inlet valve of the filter side. Swedish army gasmasks use the same filters and flow principles with a different inlet/outlet valve, drinking straw and speaking membrane blank design.
Could you dicuss the differences and your personal preferences reguarding bullpop vs traditional? Im assuming you know both i.e. the SA80 and the C7 / C8. Other question: I imagine the canadian army is bilingual (french/english). How do they manage this and do you notice in your service?
Great video very professional. Would you be willing to do this for us with an Israeli civilian gas mask? I just got a couple youth ones for my son but I don’t want him to try it on until I’ve cleaned it. But I have no clue how to take it apart. I’m worried I’ll break it trying to find out what parts come off and if it’s safe to submerge it in water. I can’t find any info on google or UA-cam. Thank you.
Ah the Canadian C4 mask, one of the craziest yet coolest masks in production. It's a shame Canada destroys a lot of their surplus, if not for that, there would be a lot more on the market for us civvies to get our hands on.
Is this your service mask? If so, obviously the canisters expire after being exposed to air and getting old, so if you get posted or called up will they re-issue canisters and mask? What's the process for the Canadian army or the British,or in general?
awesome vid matsimus, im joining the reserves as a REME vm and want to go regs in about a year what is day today live as a VM like and can you still get to drive most vehicles if you get the licences. i hear you can choose a vehicle to specialise in when you go as a vm is this true because if so i would like to work mostly on the new AJEX scout sv.
You should get one of those C-PAP cleaning machines that people use for cleaning their breathing machines. Those would probably work a treat on these stinks gas masks. :)
We use the M 43 protective mask. Kind of hard when we had to qualify marksman with our M-4 using our protective mask. Do Canadian troops have to qualify as well using your mask?
I have actually heard that people don't call them gas masks anymore. They call them respirators or something. I found a russian GP-5 with a hose and a filter , actually two of them... but I gave the other one away.
When I was out processing my first duty station headed to the second our NBC NCO kept kicking my mask back. First it was dirty cause there was still a little bit of sand waaaaaaay up in some corner. So I go wipe everything down more. Then it was still dirty, even though it wasn’t. So I used a wet rag to clean it. Then it was still “dirty” so I dunked it in the sink and scrubbed the hell out of it underwater. Then it was wet. So I wiped everything down again and shook the heck out of it and wiped it more. Then it was still wet after he shook it and a few drops leaked out. So I went up to the third floor and threw it in the dryer for 10 minutes. It was so hot I could barely touch it. Finally, 2 hours into trying to turn in a gas mask, after I let it cool down he took it and talked about how great it was. Yeah sure maybe it will even still work a**hole.
C4s blow the S10 out of the water, it’s an entirely better mask although it doesn’t have the ability to take outserts to protect the lenses so there’s that
Hey Matsimus. I have a good suggestion for a future video. Eventhough I know that you are a British and a Canadian service member, I have a few questions about the United States special forces. 1. Just simply remove the secondary voice diaphragm from the left and put it on the right I guess and also remove the blue valve from right to left

Canadian c4 good choice expensive as hell to get out of Canada
My gasmask is musky and its a British S6 do i clean it the same way or is there a betyer way as the exhale valve is sealed on
great content love the gas mask you all use. in the USMC we have a totally different one. On a side note what is the music you had playing?
Honest question;
Why is it ill-advised to wash the stop caps on the C4?
Is there something in there that is compromised if rinsed?
The C4 is one of the coolest looking respirators out there. Any idea where a civi can get one ?

Does a gas mask of this make work if you wear glasses?
Or do I have to choose between breathing and thing not being blurry?
is it possible to use it with two filters if the right hand side planking point is removed ?
Yes indeed
