I have the 52" Sony Bravia model similar to the 46" in this video. I bought it in 2008. The picture went out on it the other day after more than 10 years of use. Because of this video I was able to diagnose the issue and repair it. It was a bad Tcon board. Bought a replacement from electropartsonline and now it's working again. I hope to get many more years out of this TV. Thanks!

SO happy to find your video. My 14 year old Sony Bravia KDL-32m4000 made a "pop" sound and the screen displayed a full screen of lime green lines. I love that TV. No problems at all until last night. It blew out right in the middle of a thriller.. .which made us jump. LOL. I am determined to try to fix it myself. I like electronic stuff and you just gave me hope to find parts. We do have an HD Samsung Smart TV and I am not thrilled. It already shows a weird flickering screen sometimes when starting up and it is only 1 year old. They just don't make quality products anymore. Thank you Tampa Tech!

I'm really liking what you're doing, man. I've replaced capacitors on an Element, bringing it back to life twice over a decade. I picked up a couple of Bravias at the dump thinking I could fiddle with them, have a little fun. One has a HUGE orange tint. You think replacing the same board you did in this video would do the trick?

Thanks for the video. I replaced my 2007 Sony Bravia XBR-5 with a new T-Com board for $20. It was out of service for about a week. Remember to verify the part numbers on the old and new board. I was about to purchase the wrong board until I took my TV apart to verify the part number.

I’m so glad I found your video. I’ve been dealing with horizontal lines on the screen after initially turning on the power which go away after 30 or so minutes. I saw a recommendation to hit the back of the TV to see if that changes anything and I noticed a change when I hit the back of the TV near the board you replaced. I have a KDL - 52Z5100 and will attempt to inspect my board and see if replacing it resolves the issue.

I had the same problem with my KDL-46XBR4. Turns out it was the top rightmost ribbon cable that provides a feed to the LCD screen. There's a laminate adhesive connecting it to the PCB, and over years, the heat from the unit rising up in that corner softens the adhesive, allowing it to slightly separate and screw up the picture. Simply pressing your finger on it fixes the problem. I applied one layer of electrical tape then several layers of grip tape, to ensure the metal frame will provide sufficient pressure on the cable. Worked great. One tip: After taking off the top bracket, put the stand supports back on, then the stand. This makes it much easier to work on the set, rather than resting it loosely on the floor, risking some bending of the bottom frame tabs.

I have a KDL - R 60xbr1 and on the right side of the screen I have a distortion only on the right side of the screen from top to bottom… When I press on the top near the button functions it goes away… It does come back every time restart the TV… I was wondering if you think I don't t-con board or maybe just something similar to the problem you have?

    • @cytherians
      @cytherians 3 місяці тому

@@jet4kev1 Well, it sounds like there may be some lamination problem that could also be ribbon cable related. If you've got the time and verve to do it, try taking apart the TV and inspecting that area. See if you can pad it to help keep the pressure on to make the distortion go away permanently.

If it won't fully turn on, or there are intermittent issues, try baking the mainboard (with AV connections). I used a heat gun and a multimeter with temp sensor in an empty cardboard box. Bake for 10 mins @ 385F. This has fixed a dead LG 3D 47" and a Sony KDL-52Z100. Let it sit for 30-40 mins once you remove the heat. This basically reflows the solder on the smaller chip connections that separate over years of heat cycling. You can use your oven, but it lets off some nasty smell from the plastics getting hot.

Great videos and very helpful in trying to determine issue. Have a Sony Bravia KDL-40M4000 with picture issues. I'm hoping no more that T-Con board. Problem starts with one vertical line when turned on. this will go away in 10-15 minutes. After an hour or 2, screen washes out white and sound ok. Typically picture will come back for another while and then may wash out white again. Picture may stay for an hour or 2 and then wash out again. When picture is on, it's perfect. Keep up the great videos. T-Con board or other issues. Have not opened it up yet.

Dear @TampaTec as a fellow resident of Tampa your excellent videos caught my attention. Can you please help me? I have a Sony KDL-46S5100 that still has a beautiful picture when streaming through the HDMI ports. However when trying to receive over the air broadcast TV signals, the picture is totally garbled and unwatchable, I suppose I need a new tuner card? If that sounds reasonable to replace and solve the problem I will go ahead. Your tips on going by the number on the card and not the model on the TV is brilliant! I will go by that number if I can figure out which card to replace. Thanks a million!

You need to troubleshoot by process of elimination. Check TV connections, use another cable if needed. Check antenna 📡 📶 position and signal strength. Scan digital channels not cable / analog channels. Reset TV by unplugging TV power cord for 1 minute. Check tuner rf solder connections if needed solder bad solder joints. Can be bad tv tuner or main board. Get TV boards at shopjimmy.com or electropartsonline.com

still curious about the advanced tcon board repair here is the link- ua-cam.com/video/CWL0Y8g-TMo/v-deo.html
i will look for the IC replacement online to produce a tcon board advance repair later on *NOTE replacing the tcon IC is common fix but does not come with a warranty and NOT a guaranteed to fix your TV, replacing the tcon board which also comes with a warranty has higher success rate but cost about $30 more than the IC.

Hi, I'd just like to clear something up, you said if you see vertical lines that denotes that you should replace the board you replaced, however, when you showed the lines you get when powering up the tv, they were horizontal lines. Unless you mean the dark lines in between the rows of white horizontal lines. I would have recognized them as horizontal and not vertical, can you please explain a little more about that? Thanks. Great video by the way.

I think im gonna share this story because its somewhat positive.
I come from a bad neighborhood so, naturally, most of my oldest friends did too. My best friend still lives there and was talking to me about moving to where i live.
Friend: i guess ill just run this [unnamed hustle] while im trying to find work.
Me: no. You cant do that here. Too much competition from the locals. Run a legal hustle. You could...uh...." *lightbulb! Idea!* "you could take my truck through the wealthy neighborhoods early morning weekdays and pick up the gadgets, gizmos, and appliances that you find, ill teach you how to fix what i know and UA-cam University has enough to help us piece together the rest. Then we sell the stuff."
I made the idea up on the spot and began doing it afterwards. If i swap any more TVs around to introduce another, wife's gonna disembowel me. So here's the idea for anyone who wants it.
To wrap up my essay, I wanna say thanks to the author who really taught me how tvs work through his explanations and repairs. Knowing what part does what and why is the key to an accurate diagnosis.

Great video & you seem to be just the guy who may have the answer to what is going on with my sony bravia kdl-52S5100. The brightness of the tv seems to be a dirty looking faded white color & the tint seems to favor more of a slightly red & green color despite making proper picture adjustments. When I'm playing blu ray movies the image seems to have a coaxial look to it as if it's not really a digital image & as of today both HDMI ports have mysteriously lost their signals. If it is a solution I'm all open ears & if not then I'll should make preparations to purchase a new TV, your help would be greatly appreciated thanks👍😎👌

Hey, thanks for the video. I have the same tv and it got sprayed with water while turned off so I unplugged it for about 2weeks hoping it would come back on and to my surprise it did however after a couple minutes the screen went black and would not come back on until I unplugged it again and waited for a couple minutes but with the same result. My question is should I trash it or what would you recommend I replace in order to get it back in proper working order? Thanks for your time! 👍

Water still might be in there or at least residue needs to be cleaned out with 90% alcohol then let dry before starting up.

Tampatec thanks for the help! It’s been drying out for over a month now so there’s no water but definitely some dried water spots. Is there any certain places I should avoid? And if it persist could you tell me which board to replace? Thanks for your responses 👍👍‼️

I have a Sony Bravia KDL52EX701 that's about 10 yrs old and was used a lot. The picture has started to flicker after the TV warms up for 5-10 minutes. I would say the flicker involves horizontal lines (not vertical). Curious whether your instincts point to a TCON board issue or other problem, and whether you think there is enough life left to bother trying to fix it.

Fantastic video. I have an issue where the colors are saturated and the screen is dark. No vertical lines and the picture is not distorted. Should I be looking at the T-CON board for problem?

Excellent tutorials! I have a Sony KDL-52W4100 that stopped working one day. There is a picture, which is the last channel it was on, unfortunately an empty channel so all I see is the banner above the screen, but that's it. That picture is frozen and the TV will not change channel or input or anything else. I thought it might be a software issue but in watching you replace components, I wonder if it's one of them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Watched the video - very helpful. We have a KLV-46X350A which has started solarising and distorting left side to right and occasionally does the vertical white line thing on power up. However, after about 15mins picture returns to normal. Question: a T-con issue ?

@tampatec very informative video.. Big thumbs up 👍👍👌
But I have a doubt mine has a red screen on one side. Is it the same problem as the one you showed in the video??

Tcon board or bad tcon connections can cause half screen issues. Get tv boards at shopjimmy.com or electropartsonline.com use code tampatecfriend for discount.

Great video. Looks like it would be an easy fix. Question would it be the TCON board if the picture is producing bad brightness, color and tint? It appears washed out

@Tampatec, I would like to see an advanced repair video, but I don't have much tools or much money so is there some homemade way to make it work by making your own tools?

Awesome! Thanks for the straight-forward explanation. I have a similar SONY tv: KDL-46Z4100. Its screen error is a pile of horizontal and vertical red and green lines; pretty much a full cross-hatch (tight ‘plaid’ pattern if you will).
What do you think are the odds that I just need to order the equivalent LCD board (the upper one you worked on) for my TV? Thanks again!

Great video! Would appreciate some advice on what might be the problem with my Sony tv, KDL 40SL150. It works perfectly for awhile then gets a white screen, like a photo negative. Until now it's been a great tv, I would love to fix it instead of throwing it away. Thanks

Thanks great info. My Bravia doesn't have lines like but the colors are off. It looks almost like they're over driven or saturated. I'm guessing this is the board you replaced here. Have you seen this condition before?
