Always a sad ending but this one in particular was very well acted. Even the end Universal logo was kept silent as a kind of respect for this touching finale.
"PEOPLE NEVER DIE AS LONG AS SOMEONE ALWAYS REMEMBERS THEM." The child's delivery of the line felt very real, then the Lonely Man kicked in with Bill's incredible acting always hits me very deep. This is such a beautiful ending to a great episode. I'll never forget it for as long as I live.
Two things. First, your description of how touching this video was to you and the memories you have from the episode has a depth of feeling that only sincerity may inspire. Second, cool handle. Gojira is what Godzilla was called back in Japan, right?
***** Fantastic! I did not know that! Thank you! I quite enjoy those little bits of extra information. As my handle suggests, I dig that kind of thing.
That’s true. The tragedy that drives the Incredible Hulk series is that no matter how he tried to get a new start (the places where he goes) the Hulk always catches up with him
If this ending doesn't pull at your heart strings then you must not be human. No one played David Banner with more passion than the great late Bill Bixby.
I know. today's shows are trash and soulless. the shows in the past were far better in quality. characters like bill bixby were kind, caring and gentle, with good souls, like the friend you always wish you had. why aren't there characters like that today?
If there was EVER an ending that could make you cry ... This is the one......if you had seen this episode you would understand what the boy said....Bill Bixby's expressions are classic ... and that tear.....wow
This particular scene shows how someone at a very short age can show alot of humanity and caring for those loners that go from here to there in this tough world!!!, listen to the music and Bill's eyes playing the character of David Banner, always was and always will be my idol. Even though now I'm a 38 year old man back in 1984 at the age of 7 I saw it fot the first time and I cried, and I can still cry every time I see it over and over. Thank you Mr. Bill Bixby for showing compassion and the willingness to help other people in all the characters you played on every single show that you acted as a role model and a pioneer on TV... Wonderful and sad music at the end!
Same mate, I was 7/8 years old in 1984 too. Loved this show, even though when he turned into The Hulk I was scared sh$^less. Used to hide behind my father's arm chair in fear, thought he was going to come out of the television set!
I'm 17 now and I used to watch this when I was very young. And I could never EVER forget the song to this ending. Something about it just hits me every time.
Wow, I cant believe someone posted this particular scene. This scene has been with me since i first saw it over 30 years ago. Thank u so much for posting it. It still brings tears to my eyes watching it after all those years. And as we grow older, the words become more and more true.
David Bruce Banner(changed from Robert Bruce Banner in the comics) was studying the effects of Gamma radiation on human strength after a tragic automobile accident resulted in the death of his wife, and Banner was unable to lift the car in order to save her life. The event haunted him for years afterwards, especially after hearing reports of ordinary citizens exhibiting extraordinary feats of strength in order to save innocent lives and loved ones. Banner's inability to understand why so many other people were able to tap into this hidden strength that he was not able to tap into led to him exposing himself to high levels of Gamma radiation, believing that high Gamma levels in the atmosphere was the reason for this hidden strength. David ended up cursing himself with the Hulk alter ego because he failed to realize that it wasn't the Gamma radiation or lack thereof that prevented him from saving his wife, it was his own underlying insecurities and self-esteem issues stemming from his own physical limitations, in spite of his considerable scientific genius. These psychological issues made him feel weak and inadequate, which resulted in him being unable to lift the car and save his wife - because he simply failed to believe that he could do it. The Gamma radiation enhanced and magnified his own anger and frustration at his physical limitations and resulted in creating the Hulk persona, which was not a separate identity at all, as Banner believed, but merely an extension of his own rage and damaged psyche. 'The Lonely Man' music perfectly captured this theme of Banner constantly searching for an answer he would never find, because there is no cure for oneself. No matter where you go, there you are.
Funny how kids always want to be "grown up". When grown they appreciate the innocence of their childhoods, and the era to which they belonged. Great show, great memories, great decade! Shout out to my generation who grew up watching shows like this in the 70s/80s.
As far as i can remember "Married" (aka the Bride of the Incredible Hulk) was the only movie we saw David Banner marrying. I have all the dvd's from "The Incredible Hulk" Mariette Hartely won the "best actress" emmy award for her portrayal of Carolyn Fields. The Airedate September 22,1978
Fine actor, bringing gravitas to a troubled character mirroring a trouble life. I learned the piano and have a life long passion because of this wonderful, serious, kids program that didn’t talk down to us and explored rage, anger, responsibility, compassion and control….now we have She hulk…vapid trash. I miss real thought provoking programs with quality actors.
God. What a series. I was barely in preschool when me and my parents huddled around the b&w tv every week for this. This was a sophisticated drama for adults but I was hooked at that age.
There were three instances in which David loved a woman only to lose her to death...his wife Laura, his close friend and colleague Elena (pilot episode), and Carolyn (this episode).
Bill Bixby was one of the most talented and amazing actor i know :) , and he was one of my favorite actors too :) . The Incredible Hulk is one of the best Tv Shows ever and i love when they play the Lonely Man music at the ending of the episodes because it's the most beautiful i have heard :) .
If only the current movies were this touching and heartfelt of what Mr.Bixby brought to the character. I always saw this as a child and recognized years later, the tragedy that was trying to be conveyed: a man who could never find peace and rest. A man always on the run without a home. A man, broken and yet, redeemed in a way. Godspeed, Mr. Bixby.
I use to watch this show as a kid in the early 90s and it was my absolute favorite. My dad looks so much like Bill Bixby. I use to watch this show not only because I loved it, the good hearted nature of it, but also because my dad would go to work when I got home from school and would work until 12am so I barely got to see him during the week. This was kind of a way for me to spend time with him lol.
I want to like this description: "Always a sad ending but this one in particular was very well acted. Even the end Universal logo was kept silent as a kind of respect for this touching finale."
This is the best Marvel show ever made I watched it in 1980 in Managua Nicaragua. In Cinema and I remember I was crying at end hiding my tears in the darkness
I loved this series as a boy. But hell. I was at the age of this little boy when i watched it. And now i am soon at the age of bill bixby here in that scene. Time is fast. But the music is still as great and as sad as it was when i was a boy.
Thank you so much for this video. It brings me back so good memories fo my childhood. And this song is quite sad, it males me cry :'( R.I.P Bill Bixby.
As much as the "Sad Walking Away Music" as it is oft referred to is parodied or used humorously, it was always a solemn and sad theme, especially when used for its intended purpose as the soundtrack for the end of each episode of this series. That said...I don't remember this episode because I haven't watched the Hulk in many years. But this ending alone brought legit tears to the eyes. I don't know the context in which the episode ended, but the little boy's words were impactful, and as always, Bill's acting amazing. This was the most effective and heartbreaking "sad walking away" ending for the show that I've seen.
I've always remembered the sadness of the ending music to this show. I don't think I can recall any theme music which comes quite as close. What a sad and touching ending! Thanks for posting!
To think that this show felt real than the mcu hulk and that's why i love it bill bixby and lou ferrigno will and forever be my 2 favourite hulk and banner duo and the kids quote is so true they are never gone as long as you keep them in your heart and memories
Yes very sad always makes me cry. It's what the boy says PEOPLE NEVER DIE AS LONG AS SOMEONE ALWAYS REMEMBERS THEM then the music cuts in perfect timing. It can make us think of loved ones we have lost. In all honesty all thoe lou ferrigno did an excellent job i think bixby was the star of the show, because of scenes like this. Also in real life bixby suffered a lot of pain, his 8 year old son christopher died during filming of season 3 and later his wife brenda bennit commited suicide
Gary Glindon Yes indeed. Then he discovered that he had cancer, and the woman he was with at the time left him. Thankfully, though, he found someone who stayed with him to the end. Bill Bixby deserved an Emmy award. As you mentioned though, Lou Ferrigno also did an excellent job. The previous scene, in which the Hulk was embracing Mariette Hartley's character as she died, was very touching.
MerlinsDragon1970 This series had some great moments. I liked the fact that they kept it as down to earth as possible, instead of having him fight some super-powered opponent every week. Episodes like this one really made the series shine. I also get a lump in my throat whenever I watch the pilot, especially at the end when Banner was at the gravesite of Elaina Marks and said, "I love you, Elaina. I think you loved me too, although, you never said it (and we all heard her say it previously to the Hulk). I'm very sorry about your parents. Losing both of them so quickly is rough. My condolences.
K&C Comics really??I love the comic but when this came it truly captured the real essence of being in that duality- a man in extreme deep pain and helping others selflessly The last three movies including the Avengers don't even come close to the show
I remember crying at the end of one of these episodes- it was about an abusive father and the Hulk stone cold regulated his ass. But the father was remorseful, cue the piano, and the 8 year old's tears began to flow! :O(
I cried too. I become a softie whenever I watch a character (regardless if he/she is evil, mean, selfish, etc.) exhibit raw (sometimes) inconsolable remorse.
Olha eu aqui brasileira do estado do espírito santo 🙏 no meio de tanto gringo 😄lembrando essa trilha sonora dessa série maravilhosa 👏 😍 triste e profundo como nós neste mundo errante procurando algo!! Que no final só Jesus preenche ❤️❤️💖💖
David Banner was lucky that Jack McGee wasn't at the beach to see the damage caused by a hurricane while he was there looking for The Hulk. If McGee found Banner there while he was grieving for the loss of his 2nd wife Carolyn, who died from an advanced form of Lou Gehrig's disease before he could get her to the hospital with the cure he had, which was some Gamma Tissue from him as The Hulk,he would've had to explain why he let the world believe The Hulk killed him in a lab fire, which he didn't do.
This captured the very essence of why Marvel Comics characters, especially Spider-Man, were so popular. Here were Heroes that ordinary people could relate to, they'd use their powers to save the Earth, yet their own lives were in disarray.
Out of all of the Superhero characters the Incredible Hulk is the most interesting; a metaphor for anger and the isolation it causes.this damn theme tune didn’t help matter much either lol
@HangTenHangmen indeed :). Althouuugh, "Lonely Heart" from the Robotech soundtrack is close too. Short theme. But scenes like these just show how brilliant the writing and everything else was at that time.
JAVOMAN I’ve just ordered the box set, I watched this when I was 14 and the little boys words always stayed with me......it’s home lately since I lost a good friend and colleague at work last week....he won’t be forgotten rest in peace my friend John x ❤️ we won’t forget you x ☹️
no one will forget bill bixby
the incredible hulk and the best actor
R.I.P bill bixby the best
"PEOPLE NEVER DIE AS LONG AS SOMEONE ALWAYS REMEMBERS THEM."

Hard to keep from getting teary eyed about this
smae here friend

Poor Banner always helped everyone with their problems but never his own, he just moved on.
From what I hear, that is just like Bill Bixby was. I think he was usin that part of himself to play that character.
About each episode is sad when Banner has to leave.
That’s true. The tragedy that drives the Incredible Hulk series is that no matter how he tried to get a new start (the places where he goes) the Hulk always catches up with him
😢😭😭
That's how it usually is.
If this ending doesn't pull at your heart strings then you must not be human. No one played David Banner with more passion than the great late Bill Bixby.
What an actor Bill Bixby was. He says so much here without uttering a single word. RIP, Mr. Bixby.
This scene made me realize that bill is my favourite actor of all time .
Bill Bixby delivered that roll so well he didn't even have to say anything to make you feel, that teary eyed look to sea is all it takes.
Ugh what happened to good meaningful shows. It's all narcissistic reality crap. I miss the good old days.
I know. today's shows are trash and soulless. the shows in the past were far better in quality. characters like bill bixby were kind, caring and gentle, with good souls, like the friend you always wish you had. why aren't there characters like that today?
Reality shows suck!!
Kevin Johnson Reality shows are the reason i keep my television turned off.
Im with you, TV sucks today, movies & especially music is horrible!!
+Kim Martin no blame mtv and the real world and the grunge era for all this ever since 1992.
When I was a little boy, This end music always touch me still until this day......
+Michael Harris Especially when no one would stop and give him a lift :(
Listing to this. Makes me reflect on the long year I've had
I know exactly what you mean
I totally agree with you.
When i was kid i felt same thing
If there was EVER an ending that could make you cry ... This is the one......if you had seen this episode you would understand what the boy said....Bill Bixby's expressions are classic ... and that tear.....wow
jesse hogans agree 100%
Good lord, this is so sad. I used to cry whenever I heard this.
Verlo a David Baner, me rompe el corazon, el unico super héroe que es mas humano que todos.
this hits me so hard to home. Not while ago I lost my mom to diabetes and stroke. I still miss her today.

bill bixby managed to give the banner character an exceptional depth. a lonely man, brave, sensitive, reflective ....... a man.
0:44 He cries :(
Bill Bixby is amazing and I love the series. Very touching.

God. What a series. I was barely in preschool when me and my parents huddled around the b&w tv every week for this. This was a sophisticated drama for adults but I was hooked at that age.
One of the saddest episodes of The Incredible Hulk series.
Very beautiful! There is no way not to get emotional. Oh, David Banner (Bill Bixby), how we miss you!
There were three instances in which David loved a woman only to lose her to death...his wife Laura, his close friend and colleague Elena (pilot episode), and Carolyn (this episode).

Loved this series. The most sad music ever!
I always teared up when the kid asks "You weren't married very long huh?" and David responds "Oh it never would have been long enough"
excuse me..yes..i am crying...
If this theme music from the show won't make you cry, I don't know what will.

good memories sad ending.
I was 16 when I heard about Bill Bixbys passing, I went up stairs to play the CD of the lonely man theme and I actually cried for his loss.
I want to like this description:

To be honest the good days of tv is well gone miss this and other tv programs were on 80s&90s how its all changed now.
That's too sad. ='(
i watch this scene and I just believe im not a child anymore. I remember I watched this series when i was a child. So many things passed.
This is the best Marvel show ever made

The final sentence of the boy played by Meeno Pelucce defines well the meaning of being someone who did good.
Everyone has an Incredible Hulk in their psyche that's why this show speaks to us in a purely emotional level

Best of the series. Hands down
Yes very sad always makes me cry. It's what the boy says PEOPLE NEVER DIE AS LONG AS SOMEONE ALWAYS REMEMBERS THEM then the music cuts in perfect timing. Oh myyy... didn't know about Bill's son and his wife. This is also very sad, just like his dead on cancer so many years ago. Thx for the Info :-(

We remember Bill Bixby!
Now, at 50 I discovered that the greatest super power Hulk ever had was for a brief moment in his existence being able to transform into Bill Bixby.
@Kees2803 Its sad to know that Bill Bixby has already left us, I remember watching this series when I was a kid.
So sad... yet so true.
Best music ever
This was a great episode, and that kid looks like Maradona.
I believe this was the only ending where we didn't see David actually walking or riding off
RIP Stan Lee.
@airwolfman I'll have to check that one out too! I'm always on the lookout for sad, sad themes. Thanks for the tip!
I still tear up every time I hear this melancholy piece....especially since Bill Bixby's gone. :(
Except, of course, when Stewie did it!
This kid was God!

That boy is the brother to Soleil Moon Frye, Punky Brewster. Classic, Iconic ending theme... RIP Bill Bixby.
Really? That's Punky's brother in real life?
I love how Family Guy uses this song. [:
This is the real hulk. not that modern 3d element
@DoctorPretorious616 I can't remember but his name is Meeno Peluce and he is Soleil Moon Frye's brother. She played Punky Brewster back in the 80's.
Bill Bixby will always be remembered.
@bjroberts65 that's because it's Meeno Peluce, her real-life brother.
