Your videos inspired me to start my own planted tank a few months ago. I'm really loving the experience! Thank you so much for making such detailed videos.
Hey, so this is about 2 years later, but what plants should i use to start off with? I feel like i should have a little bit more knowledge before starting mine!
I have anxiety and had two panic attacks in two days. I have not been able to sleep and came across your video at three in the morning during one of my attacks. After two videos I began to calm down. After the 4th I fell asleep. When I awoke this morning my anxiety began to sky rocket back up. I put your video on and began to fall asleep. No medication required. Thank you. Not sure if it's the music or watching the little shrimp but this is by far better than Atavan. You should consider putting on a 24 hour live cast. I would play it all the time.
Honestly, you can really see how he cares for the artistry of the tank, as well as the life within it. The diversity of the plant life and the beauty of it is amazing. A new fan here
I've been in the hobby a long time and it's really neat seeing how things have changed. I remember in the late 90's early 00's the thought of using a garden soil with compost as the fertilizing layer was a crazy idea for a hobbyist. You have to think, compost is a material that is so high in nitrogen that when a pile in the garden is turned over the nitrogen burn is so hot that it kills any pathogens. I know expert hobbyists have been using methods like this for a long time. But this was before you could find anything on the Internet, it was difficult to share experiences; and a huge percent of what you learned was from monthly subscription magazines, which are loaded with advertisers pushing their products as the best method. Advances in lighting has helped a ton as well. I had tanks with a silly number of t12s and they produced a ton of heat. Oops wasn't planning on posting this much, but it is fun and interesting to look back.
The Walstad book helped a ton with low tech planted tanks. This is the best series on setting up one and it even includes mistakes like mixing certain plant species that sabotage each other.
Who here was recommended this video, subbed cause they got hooked and decided to watch from the beginning. Thanks UA-cam, you actually did good this time.
I always had in my mind that an aquarium is a water tank with stones, fish and an oxygen pump. I would never had in my mind that i can have live plants. 5 years ago i randomy watched this video. You made me change all my thoughts. After many changes, Im now a happy owner of a high tech planted tank. Thank you.
I wanna meet every single person who regularly watches this channel because I find it crazy that another person has experienced the beauty that is this channel. Like, it doesn't matter where you came from, is that we all enjoyed this. And I think that's really cool.
Your videos inspired me to set up my lily pond/ tub the similar way. Worked like charm. 4+ months. Very clear water. No filter. 6 types of plants including water bamboos and water lettuce, mollies, Siamese algae eaters, amanao and red cherry shrimps, snails... a completely balanced ecosystem. Occationally I had to skip weekly water changes... no issue.
I just saw the last one and jumped back on to the first. My girl 9 is obsessed with fish and chickens and spend so much time just watching the fish I am sure this is going to be a new favorite channel
This video sent me down a half year long rabbit hole where I became obsessed with aquascaping and now I have 6 corydoras and I'm gonna give them the best planted tank ever after Im done moving.
Foo, I came back here a couple years after watching some of your videos and just wanted to say your stuff is truly inspiring. The tank always looked amazing, and let's be honest, we all want a maintenance free tank. I know yours still needs some, but it seems like your tank really hit the spot of lowest maintenance possible, while still looking really clean and proper. Good job.

Just passing to say that because of this video ( and all the following updates) I spend 500 USD on a planted aquarium that after checking more videos and creators ended up very similar to your nano tank in almost every aspect ( including the plants and livestock). Hi Foo, After a few months now my large planted growth tank is largely trouble-free. You may recall a few months ago I was troubled with murky algae green water having to have performed about 6 water changes in my first few weeks. While I think there were likely many issues, the prevailing one I believe was lighting. My original planted growth tank now has 26 species of plants I can now begin to transplant into new smaller tanks. I greatly thank you for your early assistance as I look to be well on my way with 4 months experience behind me.
