Greatest clutch hitter in my lifetime. Sparky Anderson said he would walk Brett with the bases loaded rather than let him hit with the game on the line. Nuff said!

I was born in '74, grew up watching him and he was my hero. "There he is, ladies and gentlemen, get a good look at him." First 20 years of my life, and I got to see him play in all 20!

    G. Brett was, is and will always be my favorite player. When he hit 3 hrs off Catfish Hunter in the '78 playoff game at Yankee Stadium, it was like hitting 3 hrs off Dracula in Transylvania at night. Even when he had a bad game, you always knew he gave it his best.

As a Detroit Tiger fan born and raised George Brett is one of the best that ever played the game. Much Respect.

Funny thing about Brett's fight with Nettles in the 1977 playoff game. If you watch, Thurman Munson pushes through the pile to protect Brett. Brett later said Munson put his hands on Brett's face, in case any Yankees tried to take cheap shots at him. That was the respect players had for Brett.

George Brett didn't hit that many home runs in the regular season, but come postseason time and he was a monster. After he played his last postseason game in 1985, he was the all-time AL Championship Series leader in BOTH home runs AND triples.
In 1980, Brett won the AL MVP and hit .390 but won the World Series not that season but in 1985, when he also won his first and only Gold Glove. He was always a monster in the ALCS but in 1985, he was incredible versus the Blue Jays, leading them to victory after they were down 2-0 and 3-1 in the series. His Game 3 was particularly memorable, as he went 4 for 4 with 2 home runs and 4 runs scored and made some great defensive plays. The Toronto manager simply said after that ALCS: "Too much Brett."
In Game 7 of the World Series vs St. Louis , he had 4 hits as the Royals also came back from 3 games down.
For third basemen, I would take him over Mike Schmidt due to his continued success in every postseason series he played in.

ed vega, brett hit 317 home runs in one of the toughest parks to hit home runs. in a home run friendly park he would have hit around 500, if he had played in fenway i have no doubt he would have hit .400, he would have owned the green monster.

My favorite Brett stats are: Batting titles in 3 different decades 1976, 1980, 1990... 118 RBI in 117 games in 1980... 24 Home Runs only 22 Strikeouts in 1980... Hit .388 with 33 doubles in 71 games at age 37 after the All Star break in 1990 to capture his third batting title... played 43 postseason games and hit .337 with 10 home runs... had more walks than strikeouts in this career 1096 to 908... and the best for last, Brett is the ONLY player in MLB history with at least 3,000 hits 600 doubles 100 triples 300 home runs 200 stolen bases and a .300 average.

20 years 1973-1993. He rapidly developed into a good hitter winning the 1976 battling title. Then he clubbed 22 homers in 1977 and he was batting at or near .300 between 1976 and 1983. In 1980 Brett won the American League MVP and batted .390, a modern record for a third baseman. He actually flirted with .400. Brett's 1980 batting average of .390 is second only to Tony Gwynn's 1994 average of .394. In 1985, Brett had another brilliant season in which he helped propel the Royals to their second American League Championship. He batted .335 with 30 home runs and 112 RBI, finishing in the top 10 of the league in 10 different offensive categories. Brett then batted .370 in the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals including a four-hit performance in Game 7. He was one of the best hitters in Royals history. He moved from Third base to first in 1989 and then later was DH. He won the batting title in three decades: 1976, 1980 and 1990.

Amazing that he and Mike Schmidt played for basically the same years, and both played for one team, and even faced each other in the World Series once. The two best ever at the same position at the same time. Personally I give Schmidt the edge with the 10 Gold Gloves and the HRs and the modern stats (better OPS and OBP) but I understand the case for Brett.

One of the best, and more under appreciated players in the history of the game. This video perfectly encapsulates "Charlie Hustle" in all of his glory. That fight with Nettles always gets me fired up.

here's how good george brett was, he is only one of four players to hit 300 home runs, 3000 hits, and finish with a .300 career batting average. the other three are hank aaron, willie mays, and stan musial. that right there is baseball "royalty".

Royals should have been in at least one of those WS...77 or 78. They would have beaten the Dodgers. But the Yankees at that time were just too good. When you think KC Royals....you think George Brett! One of THE greatest player EVER!!

He is my favorite Royal hands down. How anybody thought that Alex Gordon was going to be the second coming of this man was nuts and Gordo has proven he's not. Even at Brett's current age, he would still be better than Gordon!
