    You know how to weed out a colorist? Tell them you prefer a partner with your skin hue. You want your kids to look exactly like you, and watch their reaction.

      That’s how my unambiguous friend ended up calling me colorist lmao 🤣 and she was like “of course that’s what YOU want” 😂 it’s all fun and games until you call out their hypocrisy

      @elegantempress1395 yup heavy on the dark-skinned black men being mad at us exoticals for jot dating them. Look at how they torment Doja Cat in her comments, they're big mad that she only dates white men. I've been asked by dark skin black men about my preference (thinking I'll boost their ego by saying dark-skinned black men) but instead I say I prefer my phenotype or white (which is my real preference). They get super quiet or weird after saying that, then they get to asking me why I don't like them lol.

    Oh my goodness I relate so much to people calling me light skin and then correcting themselves to light brown. I notice it happening more when they take a closer/longer look at our features and if we have one black feature then we aren’t that light. When my hair got longer, more unambiguous people saw me as light and mixed.

    • @thegiftofgabby5581
      @thegiftofgabby5581 9 місяців тому +22

      Right! Like, if they just saw our skin in isolation, it would be light, but with our black features, it’s suddenly darkened. So crazy.

    • @ExoticalsUnited
      @ExoticalsUnited  9 місяців тому +19

      Omg yes!!!!! People won’t admit they take into consideration your hair texture and facial features when perceiving your skin tone. This is why we shouldn’t let others police us. We will have a different opinion every day! 😂

    One time a girl (well she used to be my friend) angrily said "You're not white!" I was like "Honey, i know. I'm not black either, i'm a mixture." She didn't say anything and just stared at me in anger. This all happened because a boy in our group outing said i looked really pale and she got angry for that. 💀💀 I mean how can you get angry about how another person looks naturally.

    A while back I was hanging out with a group of guys and girls. One girl in particular I had been hanging out with for a few months so she knew I was full black from previous conversations. One of the guys asked me was I mixed because I am like Beyoncé’s color with hazel eyes. & before I could speak, she jumped in and yelled “she’s not mixed she’s full black”
    It was just really odd that she got upset and didn’t let me speak for myself. I’ve had many moments like this.

      Omg ! This reminds me of when I was with my friend (she was mono) and some white guys were hitting on me , the guy was like “are you a model?” And my friend was like “no! She only modeled when she was like 12, she’s not a model” LMAO people are such haters 😂

      My own aunt in law did this to me. There was a guy at her apartment, who stayed below her, and he was kind of fawning over my hair, and voiced today he was interested in me. I was wearing braided extensions, and I have had many guys and girls tell me I look like both Lisa Bonet and Zoe Kravitz when I have styled my hair in this way. Before I could answer about my hair, my aunt just came down the stairs and got angry and told him that’s not her real hair..

  • @FortifiedLife

    What’s crazy is I’ve never had a white person have a problem categorizing me as light skin but black people always seem to have 20 different explanations as to why I’m not light skin😂

    • @Lovingness626
      @Lovingness626 5 місяців тому +1

      I know that’s so true, and even in my early 40s I keep getting white men and women telling me that I look mix because I look like their children. My parents are both black, but you can tell there’s something else in there too. They are both light-skinned.

    What you had to say about the dream girl idea I thought was interesting. I would take it a step further and say I think most men are heavily dependent on men in their social circle to tell them what their dream girl is. I kinda think even when white men raised in mostly white environments marry dark skin unambiguous black women it's because his personal circle of friends have been uplifting those kinds of features. Or sometimes he values a hobby or line of work she does, because men marry for status as much as women do. Great channel 👌

    I’m glad I grew up in a family of different complexions. I never felt bad for being dark skinned nor was I treated unfairly. However, i was always roasted by people outside my family who were just 1 shade lighter than me 😂😂😂 What has always perplexed me is the fact that I’ve always had lots of light skinned friends but I never feel isolated for any reason. However, many women that look like me have a vastly different experience. If I was isolated or treated negatively, it was always women who looked just like me. Just my experience 🤷🏿‍♀️

  • @MsMalina24
    @MsMalina24 9 місяців тому +39

    You know what else I noticed and maybe it’s just only my experience…… but when you downplay that you are light skinned they all of the sudden say you are light skinned or that you look white or bright. Happens to me a lot cause most of the time I just say I’m caramel or honey and then they are like oh no your kinda bright/white and then I’m like huh? 😅it’s very confusing. And the person is usually a deep complexion, they also are no longer threatened either I guess because I’m not even concerned about my skin color like that nor do I care

    • @ExoticalsUnited
      @ExoticalsUnited  9 місяців тому +15

      So true! One time I called myself caramel (after being gaslit and told I’m not that light skinned) and then the three girls I was with literally ganged up on me saying I’m not caramel because I was too light. Then one of the (other light skinned girls) said SHE was the real caramel (she was maybe 3 shades darker than me?) lmao you’re damned if you do damned if you don’t

      @@ExoticalsUnited omg are you kidding me?! That’s literally insane and so backwards! I’m so sorry you had that experience 🙏😢 I also have had similar experiences with white people when I used to work in an affluent area. Alot of times they would insist that I had to be biracial to look the way I do and because they have family or grandkids that look like me that are mixed so that means I must be mixed. And I’m like actually I’m not….. both my parents are black but just light skinned. And then they are like ok but you’re eyes and your freckles? And I’m like ok and? And then I’d just walk away at that point cause I’m not gonna argue with you. Then one time….. this white lady randomly told me she wouldn’t mind if her son had kids with me because they would come out closer to white anyways and that I wasn’t really black. I had to walk in the back and sit down. I was quite upset, she really thought that was cool to say to someone.

      That’s interesting you said that, how people who use the word “bright” have deep complexions . A random UABW randomly walked over to me once to give me a heads up about how girls will be jealous of me and began listing my physical characteristics and also said you’re bright. Up until then I never heard anyone refer to a skin tone as bright as I was confused bc Maam why are you walking up to me and i don’t know you talking about skin color and jealousy? But I realize now it’s another term for light skin. It seems dark skin people have so many terms for people with light skin. I feel they think we think of our skin tone just as much as they do with all these diff terminologies they have for us. Btw, you’re gorgeous.

    The timing of this video is impeccable! It is so funny because this video posted when I left the gym and I had this experience today at the gym. There’s this guy who I am friendly with at the gym. He asked me out to once, but I politely declined because I am in a relationship. Fast forward it’s a couple of months later, I haven’t seen him until this evening. we say hello, then engage in small talk. Then he says to me “did you get a tan you look darker?” Now I love to tan, but in the winter time I am “brighter”. I immediately recognized it as BS.. Lol so I just said “oh really, thank you” with a huge smile on my face. it didn’t bother me at all, because I love any shade winter or summer that I am, but it was an obvious lie, and he wanted a reaction. Then as I was heading home, I listen to this story time.
    ** for reference, my profile picture on UA-cam was taken in the summertime.

    I only take issue with UABS men and women feeling like they are the only ones that can be called black. I don't mind being called light-skinned nor am I offended when its pointed out (I'm not sensitive about it) but it needs to be understood that dark-skins do not run the black community. If it wasn't for many of the light-skinned ppl, things would be far worse than it is now. Too many UADS men and women will willingly sell themselves out in order to gain favor with other groups--thats just what I've seen and noticed. They are the first ones to scream black unity and power but they those UADS men and women will sell their own ppl out. MLS are a bit more solid. Malcolm X and Rosa Parks are LS ok. Great story time episode btw👏🏼

      yea it’s due to a lot of them having a lack of self esteem. The first thing an unambiguous black person does when they get money is run to a white neighborhood to move their, chase Whore women or “divest”, purchase white designer clothing, and then birth children with less blackness in their dna than they had . Yet WERE the colorists?!?

    Ugh, this trope. Yes, i can relate. Im the lightest of all my siblings. But i don't consider myself "lightskinned." But thats because my Dad was very fair skinned and white passing. As was most of his family (My uncle has blonde straight hair and blue eyes) But my Dad was bullied horribly for it. They grew up on the poor Negro side of town, so everybody knew they had African blood. His family also had some toxic beliefs about their skin color, and he wasnt down with that. He rebelled by marrying the blackest, most beautiful woman he could find, my mother

    I may have commented this before (I can't remember lol), but as a Gen Xer this generation's obsession with light skin is WILD to me! I am VERY high yellow and come from a family of white passing ppl. I hated my skin tone when I was younger b/c I was very pale compared to most black ppl and b/c the prettiest and most popular girls at my mostly black high school were all brown skin. It's so weird to me that ppl are now fighting over who gets to be light skin when I was out here giving myself sunburn (literally) to look more brown! I feel like I'm in some sort of alternate reality lol 😂
    Edit: The "light skin long hair" trope was very popular in my day so I was highly fetishized for that - so much so that I cut my hair super short just to avoid all the unwanted attention.
