  • This Col. Heeza Liar cartoon is an example for animation film serving as anti-german, or rather, anti-war propaganda, clearly prior to US entry into the war. The Heeza Liar series ran from late 1913 to mid 1917, and again from late 1922 until the end of 1924. (During this period about 59 films were produced; 39 of these in the teens. Less than half of the episodes are known to have survived (current count is 24). )
    11 episodes of the series explicitly are referenced to the Great War, all produced in 1915, probably animated by Bray himself. Col. Heeza Liar -- (in French named Mentoultant, which signifies: “lies all the time”) - is war correspondent for a newspaper aptly named the Daily Bluff.
