The online gaming scene is honestly not a very friendly one. Conventions, tournaments, and meetups all have the nicest people. However, UA-cam, Twitch, and Twitter comments are filled with some of the worst on the planet. Why is this? And Why does it break so many figures in the gaming community? This video hopes to explain why with a bit of psychology, personal experience, and extrapolation. The gameplay is me doing very well with AMR9 SMG.

Drift0r, You'll probably never read this but, I want you know why I watch your videos.
It started with simply your in-depths. It was something I needed but didn't realize until I saw it was something that existed. So I started watching them and you gave me ideas for classes and etc. But then as I kept watching your videos, I noticed something else. You'd make these thoughtful videos based on topics that didn't really have a lot to do with CoD, or gaming even. But most importantly, it was the way you talked about them. Like your in-depths, you showed a kind of intellect that many might consider uncharacteristic to the "CoD community." And then you showed this sort of kindness, this level-headed attitude. I've almost never seen you get angry, or really too emotional. That isn't to say you act like a robot but, you never seem to let your emotions really take you over, and as someone who occasionally has that problem, you went up in my book because of it.
At this point, even if your in-depths somehow drop in quality or I stop having a use for them, I still plan to watch your videos. Your personality has basically won me over. I'm interested in any views you may have towards anything you're willing to talk about. That is something I almost never say about people. I hope you take away from this, whatever you feel best to take away from it. - Strider Kiwi

I wanted to comment but found the one text already explaining what i'd have to say. Same story here. I enjoy the thoughtful comments, because wise and educated chaps can sometimes straighten up things in your head, give you an idea or a new perspective, even when talking about a very different topic. So these "this is how we human are made" talks of Drift0r are the ones I always try to watch even if I skipped past 2 CoDs and don't watch In depths anymore. It's just not that common to meet such a bright point of view on UA-cam.

You know, Drift0r, I stopped playing CoD back when i was burned out on playing MW3, through which i came to know your channel. Even though i'm not interested in CoD anymore i must say that i absolutely love your commentaries on those kind of tucked away under the rug topics. And i really like hearing your opinions because not only do you really intensively give an opinion on something, but rather that you research the topic you'll talk about, you're not just blabbering away what goes through your mind, you actually think about what is important, what needs to said...and that's what kept me here! Keep up the good work :)

These are my favorite types of videos that you output Drift0r. They have substance to them, unlike the majority of gaming videos on UA-cam today sadly. Love the In-Depth though, too, very informative. Only thing I could ask for is more of this sort of video please (there goes my human nature again... always wanting more :D).

Well, I'm taken aback by how good this commentary was. I mean you stated good points and explanations that honestly couldn't have been said better by others. I like how you bring gaming down to a real world perspective and don't just live on the internet and talk just about what goes on in cyberspace. I find gaming to have an exponentialy growing rate of mean, nasty communities that aren't very welcoming. Having said that, I'm thinking of becoming a speedrunner cause I find that it is a very friendly community filled with wonderful people that aren't so different from me. Anyway, I appreciate how you address us(your fans) and entertain, sometimes even educate, us. Keep up the good work and I'll see you in the next vid. Peace.

Don't let yourself get down on negative comments, I feel a lot of people overly emphasise the negative because of the effect it has on you. I don't believe the majority of people do actually prescribe to the 'dickwad theory' as you called it, and a lot of the time something written that you may perceive to be negative, really isn't at all or they hold no meaning and weight. Adjusting to the internet is adjusting your filter essentially. Either way it is a nice video, and I feel you get a lot right here too and your experience is very interesting, I hope you can cope with everything in the future as depression does truly suck! :)

I think what you mean to say is:
Driftor brings up the negative cause of the effects he has decided to notice about himself?
Which is totally a positive thing, Being more open minded to the fact you can be wrong.

Driftor is the only gaming youtuber who actually actually puts interesting content into gaming, rather than just playing a game. He just knows what he talks about, and makes really intriguing videos about great topics. I'm one of those guys who has watched his videos sine bo2 in depth, but have MAYBE commented once of twice. For the haters: I am not just throwing a nice comment up because thats part of this video, I honestly just think driftor is one of the best at doing something different from just playing a video game... it sets his channel apart in a positive way. something somewhat similar is my own youtube channel; it is all paintball gameplay. ALL THE TIME I get people telling me I am such a spoiled rich kid because I have a nice paintball gun. People never think that I could work for a paintball field, or have been playing for three years, giving me plenty of time to save up over a grand. I love youtube, and the small paintball youtubers are all generally nice, supportive people. its just focussing on the small group of positive, rather than the boat full of negative. (only have a 120ish subs so I am not crazy popular or anything)

Not only do you tend to talk about human psychology (which is highly interesting to me) a lot but you see things from other views and put yourself in others shoes which is a really truely a great thing. It gives such insight and the information you provide is, to me, wonderful and I could talk about this stuff all day. Often I find myself talking about things you do to friends and family and use things you've said, all the time. Not only this but your open minded, which to me is invaluable and I change the way I think after a video such as this and remind myself to step back and just think. Then your more gaming type videos like in depth are absolutely amazing because they provide SO much information and I happily absorb it. Thanks man I really love what you do and how you do it

Another solid vid Drift0r- watching all your in depth episodes has helped me grow as a player. One idea for the game i thought of but don't worry about sending it or anything would be that every fourth scavenger pack you pick up (if you equipped that perk of course) recharges your exo battery. That might be OP but i feel like more people would use the exo that way. Personally, i'd rather equip a better gun and double up on perks than win 1 gunfight because I have an exo ability going.

‘True wisdom is less presuming than folly. The wise man doubts often, and changes his mind; the fool is obstinate, and doubts not; he knows all things but his own ignorance.’ I don't know where i first heard this quote but what you were saying about the loudest voices being the most negative and toxic while the friendlier voices stay silent for lack of feeling a need to speak kind of reminded me of it. Another version (kinda) I remember from a song, "conscience keeps us quiet while the tricky love to speak." I might help to try to keep things in perspective. So what if some jerk posts a toxic comment and gets few dozen thumbs up on a video with tens of thousands of views. The rest of us may not have said anything but we didn't care for or agree with what was said enough to have that thumbs up count get even close to 5% or 10% of the actual viewing population.

I'm 37 years old and have been playing video games for most of my life. I have come across many different types of gamers, especially being that I am an educator at the middle school level. I could easily stay that silent majority and allow some of those negative individuals to rule the comments, not today though! I wanted to let you know that I look forward to your videos each day. I usually always learn something and enjoy your style of making videos. Keep doing what you are doing!

Hey driftor thanks for this video it really changed my thinking, I used to complain and be like "why isn't their this why don't the change this?" But I really took a step back and thought about everything and I was a total dirt bag I wasn't sending suicide threats or anything of that caliber but I would complain so much other, would be frustrated, and it didn't help anything if anything it made things worse my friends were say "phil stop complaining and raging it really kinda ruins it for me" and I saw this video and im done with complaining and raging. Thanks for posting this video it changed video games for me forever! Keep up the awesome work!

I consider myself part of what you call the silent majority. Maybe it's a bit late to say now, but you are one of my favorite UA-camrs out there. I get excited every time you upload a new video. I'm not into CoD but I watch your videos just because you're such a nice and entertaining person. I wanted to say that you helped me in many situations of my life and I want to thank you for it. Keep doing those great videos.

Drift0r, I completely agree with everything that you brought up in your video, and it was really well thought out. I'm one of those people that hardly ever comment and just watch the video, but I felt compelled to tell you that you are a great UA-camr and to keep up your great videos. I thoroughly enjoy your more personal content such as this. I hope you and Jessica have a great day. And I can't forget Ozzy! :)

I guess that makes me apart of the silent group. I appreciate your content a lot despite having lost interest in cod, because of the wisdom you bring to the table in commentaries like this. And my philosophy of the Internet is, the loudest voices are the angriest voices. Because generally the people who enjoy it, have nothing to say except that they liked it and they move on. The people that hate it, want to make it the biggest deal possible to get their point across and feel like they made a difference, to make you feel bad and change your ways. Just remember that drift0r if you see this. Keep up the good work.

Hey Driftor great video. I've been following your channel since the mw3 days and I've got to say you're one of my favorite youtubers. You're a very reasonable, intelligent person and I have a lot of respect for you. I definitely agree with you and I feel really sorry for all the youtubers, developers, and internet stars who have to deal with so much heat over ridiculous things. Hopefully your day hasn't been too full of ridiculous requests/threats. I really appreciate your videos and I hope you just keep doing what you're doing.

Great commentary driftor! I actually had to do a paper in my university on this subject. Its simple as u stated in the video, people like to get behind a username and say what they want to say. Unfortunately, I feel like the villianived "bad guy" of the cod community is keemstar. Which i dont get at all, i am a big fan of his work and hes a gd guy.

    Hello Drift0r,
I am aware that you probably will not get to read this comment from a random guy in a pot of almost a 750 000 subscribers.
    My point is:
I watched your video to the end. Not just this one, but every video since two years from the beginning to the end (except some outros ;-)
I am totally okay with your videos and in my opinion you are one of the most professional players out there. Not only your very objective commentaries but also your setup is great, sounds are great et cetera...
THANK YOU! For great videos! As long as you are yourself as you are right now, you do not earn hate. Maybe a little bit so you don't stop making videos but not as much as you do get right now.
Also, your hair looks awesome!!! :D

Drift0r, you're a good man, and thank you for making this video. Even though I don't enjoy COD anymore, I still enjoy watching your videos because of your commentary style. And you're right, I usually don't feel the need to comment and just like a solid video. However, I will try to keep your assertions in mind and speak my mind in a positive fashion on future videos that I watch.

  • @joycourier
    @joycourier 9 років тому

If I enjoy anything that seems to have a focus on one person or a group I may comment on it positively, otherwise I usually just like the video and perhaps add it to a playlist of mine like "favourites" or "music I like".
There are times when I feel compelled to leave a comment but for the most part I really am part of the silent majority. I might start to try and leave more positive comments but that would usually amount to leaving a comment every video, while it's nothing compared to what the content creator goes through to create, it's still something.
Regardless, I'm going to start trying and I'll start right here. Thank you, Drift0r. I always enjoy your videos, I always learn something new when I watch any single one of your videos. You are one of my favourite people out there, I recommend you to anybody and everybody who wants to know more about Call of Duty. I wish you, your wife, your fanbase and Ozy the absolute best for the future. Please keep up the outstanding work on UA-cam, it always lifts my mood when I see that you have released a new video.

Drift0r, as part of that silent majority, I usually click like on your videos but have never left a comment on ANY video in years, simply because I usually have nothing to say. From reading comments however, I've found that only when people disagree (usually very strongly/insanely) will they take the time to leave (sometimes hateful/unintelligible) comments (which is counterintuitive, since I figure if they hate it that much, they'd just click to stop watching). Anyway, I don't know what to say, so I'll go off your suggestions. Thanks for all these videos and the hard work you do. Keep it up! :)
