The second wave of Fashionistas looks better than the first. The Quick Curl redo interests me: I LOVE how she's brunette instead of blonde. Thanks for sharing and discussing!
I have the red haired quick curl Barbie from my childhood and her hair lasted all through the time I played with her. It has seen its better days now but I still love the dress 💖
@@jessicaseyfried7888 Red hair, brown eyes, and a green/white gingham dress? I had her, too - Quick Curl Kelley. Congratulations on still having her. I don't think I still have mine. The green gingham dress is pretty.
I also thought that Barbie should give tribute to 2000s - 2010s lines! Like 1998 Generation Girl, 2000 Jam 'N Glam, 2004 Fashion Fever, 2005 Cali Girl, and 2013 Life in the Dreamhouse.
Thanks for the review! This wave looks a little better. The Ken dolls feel a step backwards. A couple of the girls did pique my interest, like the Totally Hair inspired. I'll wait to see the actual doll on the shelf before a final verdict on them.
Great review! Totally agree that this wave is superior to the 1st. The Golden Dreams is surprisingly glam and a must-buy, and I’ll probably pick up the curvy and the Quick Curl once I see them IRL. (You didn’t mention the First Black Barbie tribute doll, which I think also looks very nice.) I was one of the collectors who didn’t like that this Totally Hair Ken tribute has molded hair, but he’s so cute that I know I’ll get him anyway, lol.
I love these, they seem very nice. The quick curl is very pretty because her face looks like the original quirk curl Steffie mold. I would like to see sewn hems because it gives a finished look. Love the boots on Golden dreams. The totally hair ken is great. I agree that the hat is needed for the other ken. At least there's a collar on Ken's shirt.😊
Thanks for a close look at these new Fashionista dolls. I agree with you on the blonde Ken. I didn’t even realize he was western. The shirt isn’t great. I will get the Ken with the beard and really all of the girls look cute. Love the Dream Date inspired look.❤
Hi Dontcallmedoll! I bought two Barbie Fashionistas: The Golden Barbie and Totally Hair Barbie!!! I love your channel and videos!!! Very nice accent 😊 Best wishes from Buenos Aires, Argentine ❤
The Ken in the blue shirt and white pants, is dressed for a weekend with the fellas. I see Ken enjoying beer, BBQ, pool, Barbie, and a few of her friends stopping by 🥳. Mattel did such a great job updating wave 2, I plan on buying every doll, and displaying them in my curio. Sadly 😢 I missed out on the Total Hair repro, so this update makes up for it!!! 🎉 I ❤ the crimped hair and 90s pattern. I favor the 2nd wave, though the 1st is valuable too. To challenge myself as an artist, I'll also buy the 1st wave, and design new fashions. Mattel dolls are so beautiful. They give you opportunities to have fun, and be creative 😊
I like the golden dreams outfit, but I will probably not buy her only for the outfit, I don't buy Fashionistas since they are not articulated anymore... (Except for the dolls on wheelchairs, I like those, they have great body)
I like the first doll you showed us with the open mouth and earrings. I also like the curvy with the lavender belt with molded flower. I think this wave is an improvement from the first, although I like them also.
Definitely the better wave for me. I very much like the Quick Curl referenced Barbie because she was my first, and therefore, my favourite ever Barbie. I believe there is also a Black Barbie reference from the 1980s. I hope they didn't drop her.
Oh you're absolutely right, i totally forgot about the 1980 black barbie inspired Fashionista. She's super cute. It's a shame that both in the previous wave with the black peaches n cream inspired one and in this wave the black doll's listings and promo images appear separately later on. For a doll line priding itself on diversity they should put more pressure on retailers to stop this dolly Segregation. 😔
@@dontcallmedollThat is an interesting observation. Maybe they were an afterthought like the boys in the first wave do not seem to refer to any vintage Barbie dolls.
These are the first fashionistas that I'm actually considering buying. I usually only collect the collector line but I love the playline dolls inspired by classic Barbie looks. I'm hoping they do the next wave of fashionistas in the inspired by classic looks
My 2 favourite were the Barbie With Totally Hair inspired look and the Golden Dream inspired look. We still haven’t even gotten the first wave of these dolls yet where I live! I live in the dark ages here lol by the time we get the first wave the third will probably be out already 😂😂 thanks for another great video ❤❤
I saw the 1st wave in the store and wanted to buy a doll but did not really like any of them. This wave is an improvement andI like the" totally hair" Ken and Barbie, dream date, and golden dreams. Undecided on totally hair but like the outfit. I guess I"m sold. Thank you for the review!
Hi, i like the different looks to them I couldn't buy another Millie with bad screening. I like dark hair and AA the best. Thanks for your review, and honesty.
The second wave is very much an improvement. The first wave, I have seen the girls in WalMart and wasn't even tempted to buy one. In the second wave I like the Ken for sure and it is possible I will buy others in that wave.
I'm only a minute into your video and can't remember when I've ever agreed with someone more. You're just so right about the line and these 65th anniversary "inspired" designs. TBH, if I'd seen the dolls and not know they were supposed to be a tribute to previous dolls, I'd have a much higher opinion of them. As it is, the ensembles are so far from the originals - don't catch the spirit of the OG designs and definitely not the quality - it's like putting a cream tshirt dress out and saying it's a tribute to the Marilyn Monroe dress Kardashian wore: it's just a slap in the face. I was going to say they were like sweat shop knock offs of the originals, but TBH, they would have done it better. I do think the quick curl dress has possibilities, but I had the original as a kid so it has sentimental value to me. Mattel has some great designers - IDK why they keep regurgitating the same crap over and over in such low quality ways. I imagine the designers' visions were much cuter/nicer, but someone in charge looked and said, "we've already got factory set ups for X style - that will do," and adapted to fit what they could most cheaply and quickly produce.
with Barbie, it's always a "One step forward, 50 steps back" deal because they'd improve in some ways but get worse in SO MANY OTHERS. Like, they'd give the fashionistas slightly better outfits, and then go on to cancel Barbie Extra. And even then the "improvements" aren't without flaws. I thought the doll that was inspired by the 1959 OG barbie with the striped top and pink skirt was cute, but when I bought her, the clothes don't even have the velcro anymore. You just have to slide them off her body and hope nothing snags. I don't know WHAT'S going on with the barbie design team, but they should take a little visit next door to the Monster High design team and ask for some advice.
I mean they look okay. I don't like the gold outfit at all. What I think is cute is stuff that I probably already have. My favorite is the ken with the 5:00 shadow!
I like Barbies with more realistic features like the European style Barbies...pouty lips and arched brows , more sophisticated looking (I had almost every Barbie on the market growing up in Canada)
7:58 they don’t wanna do that because she’s apparently stereotypical and probably Mattel won’t make a repro for the old fashionistas/fashion fever because of how badly they were received because they don’t have many black dolls like and only used the belly button body even I like how Barbie is now im mad that Barbie doesn’t use glittery sparkling dresses and doesn’t use a lot of makeup they toned her down a lot but I would love for Mattel to make something for us teen-adult collectors something we grew up with
Honestly, they still look bland as heck. Mattel had a chance to give us a long sleeved cowboy shirt for Ken, but too the lazy way out. I do agree that they should make more inspired looks from barbies post-1992 because they seem to be stuck in time.
To me they're all the same old... stuff! The dream date inspired one has those hideous joker lips that ruin her for me, the Totally curl inspired one is the better of the bunch but it's like bragging about having only one eye in the land of the blind...
Can't wait until they hit Australia. Still waiting for wave one and also the new Rainbow High. Australia misses out on a lot of the US releases even in 2023 we didn't get all.
I like the gold outfit, and the pink gingham, but Defa Lucy is giving articulation…… to spend $11 on these fashionistas and then have to spend $16 for a body for them? It brings the price to $27 which is more than what a Barbie looks cost 😢
Actually I liked the long black haired one of 1st wave. I have her. But....she's a little pixelated. Mattel literally has false advertising. The stock photos look different than the doll you get. And I still haven't seen these in my stores. Which is why I order from Amazon.
The sad thing is all they really had to do was give him cowboy boots and/or the hat and everyone would have bought him for the accessories bare minimum
I don’t think that these dolls are an improvement, the one inspired by Totally Hair is another DISrespect towards that iconic doll The cutest is the curvy one inspired by Great Date I fear that Mattel refuse to reference to 2000s and early 2010s because they see them as the most “controversial and problematic” periods In the 2000s Barbie was beaten by Bratz in the market, and the 2010-2013 hot pink bimbo glamour Barbie was strongly criticized by "feminists" and Karen mothers, all modern Barbies with ordinary outfits, potato sack dresses and flat feet are specially made to please that segment of people So Mattel prefer to leave those two decades in oblivion, in fact the latest books on the history of Barbie completely ignore the 2000s, going straight to praising the current era of diversity and inclusion as the best ever As a 23-year-old collector who grew up with 2000s and early 2010s Barbies, I feel left out, as if my childhood is worthless and never existed. For this reason I am not at all interested in Barbie currently
This set is 💯 better I do like the male and female totally hair Barbie and dream date inspired, but I wish that they gave them back the articulation that they first had. 🎉 🇦🇺🦘
Kim culmone(the one in charge of all barbie products) hates generation girl so I highly doubt they pay any tribute to her. well not intill shes out lol
Love the video- as always- but this new wave of Fashionistas is still trash to me… First of all, I cannot understand why anyone is putting up with the pixelated face screenings, it’s actually insane! Secondly, these dolls all looks so cartoonish and cheap.
Defa Lucy looks better, quality fabrics, saran hair, no pixelation, detailed face and with articulation. While this stiff fashionista dolls look like knock off in dollar tree, the old fashionista summer mold doesnt fit well in petite golden jumpsuit body seriously.

I'm glad this wave has more appeal! Loved the humour at the end about referencing the first wave. Great video! I didn't know about these yet 👌🏾👌🏾
The golden dream is the only one I'm interested in. It's spot on for me as far as the inspiration goes.
I also thought that Barbie should give tribute to 2000s - 2010s lines! Like 1998 Generation Girl, 2000 Jam 'N Glam, 2004 Fashion Fever, 2005 Cali Girl, and 2013 Life in the Dreamhouse.
