In 2000, I was privileged to see Barbra live in concert. As the last song before intermission, she sang this song and held this note just as long. This brought the house down and a standing ovation followed. And like you, I had goose bumps and shed a tear. I’ll never forget that moment. Thanks.
She’s amazing, if you want to see her saying this live she does it in the millennium concert and she duets with herself on a big screen behind her it’s pretty amazing.
When I went to the theater everybody stood up and applauded She snuck into a movie theater because she was told people are standing and applauding to a screen. She had to see it for herself. . Barbra has the best voice on the planet. Will will never have another Barbra. We’re so lucky she shares her talent with us. Love you Barbra!!!
I've seen the movie back then in the cinema and loved it a lot. And this song, this closing scene, on a big screen - it blew me away! I still think the academy made one of their biggest mistakes with not even giving Ms Streisand a nomination for best director. She was probably ahead of her time...
Her note at the end of "Before the parade passes by" in Hello Dolly was long and nailed the first act finale...not to mention how she held the note at the end of "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever" was one for the record books.
The final song- lines from earlier songs in the film, this is the culmination of this part of her story of emancipation. Stunning soundtrack. And Ms. S singing to her own father in that last scene
Your reaction gave me goosebumps. THANK YOU!! 😁 This is the finale to the movie "Yentl," which Barbra Streisand directed. If you haven't seen the film, I actually think you'd really enjoy it. There are some underlying gay themes, but overall, it is a movie about love and following your dreams! She does sing this song live, in a duet with herself from her "Timeless" concert on January 1, 2000. You have to see it to believe it. LOL
Alan and Marilyn Bergman wrote most of her top songs, and especially those in Yentle. Barbra’s father passed when she was a baby and I think she especially felt this song held special meaning.
You can't imagine what it was like waiting for her to release a new album "back in the day"! It was torture. Please, please, PLEASE Barbra give us more! I never thought she would top her vocals on "Yentl", but along came "The Broadway Album".
I have listened to so much Barbra over the years I suppose I've taken that voice a bit for granted. Was a good reminder watching your face. There are so many wonderful songs of hers for you to hear.
That is not her longest note. Her last TV special back in the 70s - she did a montage of classic songs via different countries and at the end of the 16 min montage, she holds a final note while the orchestra plays each of the themes of the songs from each of the country's instruments played earlier while she sustains the note over it. It is truly one of the Mount Everest of long notes.
One Less Bell to Answer/A House Is Not a Home. TV appearance, 1971. Re this, you’d appreciate it more by seeing the film and how this aria is a culmination of her hopes for her future.
One of the most triumphant endings in film history, enough to give one shivers and yes, THAT last note omg!!! she holds it for a ridiculous 20 seconds and still manages to do a subtle vibrato before getting off the note (whereas she should have been on the ground gasping for air) and that's very hard!
You can see her do it live in concert from the 1994 Concert in Anaheim CA or the millennium concert listed below, both are incredible! I look forward to more Barbra on Derek Reacts
The final scene on the ship harks back to Barbra's famous scene from the 1968 film "Funny Girl," which ended with her singing "Don't Rain on My Parade" from the back of a tugboat. Not to be missed!
Whenever I watch "Yentl" or hear songs from the movie, I remember the film "In & Out" in which Kevin Kline plays a huuuge Streisand fan. In one scene someone says that she was too old for Yentl. Then all hell breaks loose... 😂
There is a live compilation on UA-cam of her in concert singing songs from Yentl, when she’s older. My mother was the biggest Barbra fan, so I heard all the Barbra growing up. Her voice is absolutely amazing, one of a kind. A gift to us all. I saw the movie when it came out, it’s a great movie. Every time I hear Barbra, I think of my mother, RIP, and gives me good memories. “Papa Can You Hear Me?” Is a beautiful song from Yentl. A great video is her and Neil Diamond singing “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” live at the Grammy’s in what looks like the late 70s/early 80s, it can come and go on UA-cam, but it’s amazing, because Barbra didn’t sing live very much for many, many years. Thanks for the reaction, definitely going to subscribe based on this…and I see a Queen poster in your background 😀
Please Dereck.. React to the Timeless concert version of this. Its incredible to see her do it live! I've been into Barbra for so long, I get chills all the time! So thrilled to see you get them too!
Yentl was a Musical, that they made into a film! She starred, sung, and produced this film. She was up for many Academy awards, but for some reason, she only got one award. The academy snubbed her for some reason. I think, they thought it was too easy for her. Barbara said, it was one of the hardest films to make, but because she always made everything look so easy, they didn't want to give her awards, even though she more than deserved it!
Buddy I’m bummed you don’t do movie reactions too. Would love to see you react to Yentl. Great movie and Barbra soundtrack. But this was a great reaction. You always find such fun stuff.
Check out the Yentl Medley from her 1994 return to the concert stage after a 27 year absence, recorded for the Emmy winning HBO special. She duets with herself by singing live along with this clip from the movie. The late, great Marvin Hamlisch conducts the magnificent orchestra. Absolutely astonishing. If you want to hear what may be an even longer note held by Barbra in a movie that is probably the last note in Before The Parade Passes By in Hello, Dolly! It goes on forever!
She sings a longer note in Make our garden grow, which is a more difficult note, cause it's longer. Yet it's not her longest. On a special she sang who could ask for anything more which was 23 seconds long. (Tom)
She sang it live in 1994 Arrowhead Stadium as a duet singing with herself as the movie is showed in the background perfectly in tune LIVE. This was taped for HBO and won a prime time Emmy for Outstanding TV Special.
I met Barbrah in the movies i was 14 still get shaken and goose bumps 45 yrs later i saw the way we were 7 times yes 7 times and i was just a kid but i remember her voice never forgot that voice supper.Amazing
I've see her live twice! There is no one like her.. Unfortunately like us all she has gotten older, I would say her performing live days are over.. I could be wrong.
She does have a live version of this song where she is singing it along with this movie clip...You must find it...Her singing with herself...The way she blends her voice to compliment her own voice is like nothing else 😁
this is the movie and the album that made fall in love with Barbra !!! Fantastic movie and soundtrack is an unbelievable. And my all time favorite quote: "the more I live. the more I learn. the more I learn the more I realize the less I know.
I think you'd also really enjoy Barbra's song "Papa, Can You Hear Me?" from the movie "Yentl." She repeats some of the lyrics here in "A Piece of Sky" (Papa, can you hear me? ... Papa, can you see me?). Along with "Papa," another song from "Yentl" called "The Way He Makes Me Feel" was also nominated for an Oscar for best original song.
Not only does she sing it live but she sings along with this same track and harmonizes with herself...Its pretty amazing. its one of her concerts, from 94 or 96...Im sure its here on youtube somewhere
Watch the movie “Yentl”, Barbra Streisand directed, produced, co-wrote the movie, starred in it as well as sang every song. What was remarkable, women didn’t direct movies then! And to top it off, it was the first Hollywood movie made behind the iron curtain during the Cold War!!!! She became the first woman in history to win the golden globe for best director. When she was snubbed by the Oscar for the major awards, it was a scandal!!!
Her rendition of Pa Pa can you hear me Absolutely brilliant No one in the industry can come anywhere near what Barbra does in this film clip Incomprehensible what she can do with her vocal control
Yentl lol. She was the Director and main character. Why do so many people not know this film and these songs lol? The film won two Golden Globes and an Academy award.
You should watch Yentl to hear all of the songs and then this one will make more sense. It`s also very similar to the end of Funny Girl, her first movie, where she sings. Nobody Is Gonna Rain On My Parade on the back of a tug-boat and holds a note almost as long as this one. there`s a video of her performance from the film on UA-cam, well worth watching.
Sung it live at Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim back in 1994! It was a duet with herself on screen! Did it again in 2000, in Vegas! It was pretty AMAZING! You need to review it!
In the 90s, she gave a concert where she played this on a big screen and sang it live at the same time. Basically doing a duet with herself - and yes sounded as good. You could probably find that on you tube. Entire audience was on their feet.
Here you go. I happen to just stumble upon this. This is from one of her tours. It's a Duet from Yentl. All I can say is have a box of tissue handy, especially after the first song. The visuals in your mind are overpowering. You have to literally sit still for a few minutes as your mind processes what you just heard and saw. Anyway, here is the link, and have your producer or someone download the video so that you don't see it first. I really am curious to hear your expert opinion. I am 62 and grew up with all this music from the 60s to the present. And I can't help but watch the breath-taking delight on your face as you experience one of the best talents ever as I have since my early teens. If you want to see her live, check out her singing "My Man" from her "My Name is Barbra" TV special--her first, in 1965. It's thrilling. Her "The Way We Were" live in 1975 is pretty spectacular, too, but the sound quality on the UA-cam versions of it isn't the best.
Barbra’s was the original…anyone else is a copy!’
In my book...she's the best female singer of all time!!!
better than Aretha or Whitney
Agreed
@@Dino-su2wh better than Aretha for me but her and Whitney are neck and neck

Only One.. BARBRA Streisand.❤️🔥
When Streisand sings you feel it in your bones.
Exactly!!!!!
The best singer of all time!
Definitely
Absolutely!!

I never heard any one ever hold a note longer that Streisand
No other female singer will ever come close to Barbra Streisand!!!!!
Barbra is the best but Lara Fabian is a close second.

she has a voice unequaled - that note perfection, that pitch and that range is incredible - superb !
Ms. Streisand is an absolute Goddess so it's no surprise that Because she directed the film
that the film is a Masterpiece! :)
The entire Yentl medley from her 1994 concert video is beyond incredible, and her duet with herself to finale Piece of Sky was indescribable!
Bloody awesome
She’s amazing, if you want to see her saying this live she does it in the millennium concert and she duets with herself on a big screen behind her it’s pretty amazing.
Definitely react to this live version, it's totally amazing.
