I have spent half my life on the back of a boat trolling or standing behind a fly rod and I just learned some stuff about spinning rods and reels!!!! And small spoons........ !!!!! Ordering some new stuff.........NOW.

The Shakespeare micro rod is a hidden gem. I bought one a few years ago when walmart had the combo for $17. The reel sucked, but the rod is great. Bought it as a backup just to have in my car and since then I bought a second one and 1 for my dad. Great for panfish and trout, but I have caught multiple 10 to 12 pound catfish on them. Shakespeare is usually bad quality, but these are sleepers.

You can't say much if anything bad about Shakespeares rods. Their reels will not last long.
Truth they just break super easy where they slide together if ya get the two piece I’ve broke three just getting caught on cattails and other grasses
i use a similar combo same rod with a 5 foot 6 rod and a amazon 1000 piscifun flame reel been using them both for 4 years and love them both best 45 buck i ever spent

I run a Daiwa Prorex ags spinning rod and Daiwa Prorex reel. 8ft 14 to 42 gr and 30 to 70 gr. Affordable, and bulletproof.

I bought that rod a few years ago after watching your Video and guess what I paired it with a 1000 Picifun Viper, mine is the 7' ultralight and it is a solid setup even catching a 3 lb Smallmouth. I think it's great when a UA-cam creator makes content like this by offering affordable recommendations for gear to fish with, it makes it possible for more Dad's and Granddad's like myself to get kids gear that they use for a long time. Keep up the great work!

Shakespeare Micro Series rods have no competition at the price. I always take one at leat with me trout fishing as a backup. I bought a Sougayilang BFS rod for under $30 . I haven't used it yet. It looks awesome. Nothing looks cheap about it.

Reels start making that noise when you put your real in the water that the grease washes out.
Sounds like sand in there. Wonder if they didn't grease it enough before shipping it out.
