YES !
The best music is fun music.
Life is serious enough.
Let the music be fun.
20th anniversary of the Beach Boys. (1981)
There’s a longer version of this that adds “Little Deuce Coupe,” “Little Honda,” “Hawaii,” “409,” “Noble Surfer,” and “Dance Dance Dance.”
Yes, thanks....here it is: ua-cam.com/video/2QcLoXxdBpo/v-deo.html
I remember FM radio stations in markets were flipping to an Oldies format. I bet, this was released to sort of cash in on some of that airplay for that format. Another thing is that Capitol left all these songs in mono, not stereo, which was a bit disappointing. I find this record pretty good actually of all the nostalgic medleys that were released 81-83.
❤!
There was another one--by the Cantina Band this year.
Yes...that was another nice one called "Summer '81," which entered the Hot 100 on the same week as this posted "Beach Boys Medley."

Lyrics:
I, I love the colorful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair
I hear the sound of a gentle word
On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air
I'm pickin' up good vibrations
She's giving me excitations
Good good good good vibrations
(Oom bop bop)
She's giving me excitations
(Oom bop bop excitations)
Good good good good vibrations
Help me, Rhonda
Help, help me, Rhonda
Help me, Rhonda
Help, help me Rhonda
Help me, Rhonda
Help, help me, Rhonda
Help me, Rhonda
Help, help me, Rhonda
Help me, Rhonda
Help, help me, Rhonda
Help me, Rhonda
Help, help me, Rhonda
Help me, Rhonda, yeah
Get her out of my heart
We always take my car 'cause it's never been beat
And we've never missed yet with the girls we meet
None of the guys go steady 'cause it wouldn't be right
To leave their best girl home now on Saturday night
I get around
Get around round round, I get around
From town to town
Got around round round, I get around
I'm a real cool head
Get around round round, I get around
I'm makin' real good bread
Get around round round, I get around
I get around
Round
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Round round, get around
I get around
Yeah, get around
Ahh ooo ooo
It happened on the strip where the road is wide
(Oooo rev it up now)
Two cool shorts standin' side by side
(Oooo rev it up now)
Yeah, my fuel injected Stingray and a four-thirteen
(Oooo rev it up now)
Revvin' up your engines and it sounds real mean
(Oooo rev it up now)
Tach it up, tach it up
Buddy gonna shut you down
Come on (surfin'), baby, wait and see (surfin' safari)
Yes, I'm gonna (surfin') take you surfin' (surfin' safari) with me
Come along (surfin'), baby, wait and see (surfin' safari)
Yes, I'm gonna (surfin') take you surfin' (surfin' safari) with me
Let's go surfin' now
Everybody's learnin' how
Come on and safari with me
Bar bar bar bar Barbara Ann
Bar bar bar bar Barbara Ann
Oh, Barbara Ann, take my hand
(Bar bar bar bar Barbara Ann)
Barbara Ann
(Bar bar bar bar Barbara Ann)
You got me rockin' and a rollin'
Rockin' and a reelin', Barbara Ann
Bar bar bar bar Barbara Ann
Let's go now
If everybody had an ocean
Across the U.S.A.
Then everybody'd be surfin'
Like Californi-a
You'd seem 'em wearing their baggies
Huarachi sandals too
A bushy bushy blonde hairdo
Surfin' U.S.A.
Well, she got her daddy's car
And she cruised through the hamburger stand now
Seems she forgot all about the library
Like she told her old man now
And with the radio blasting
Goes cruising just as fast as she can now
And she'll have fun fun fun
'Til her daddy took the T-bird away
(Fun fun fun now that daddy took the T-bird away)
Ooo-wee ooo-weeoo
(Fun fun fun now that daddy took the T-bird away)
Ooo-wee ooo-weeoo
(Fun fun fun now that daddy took the T-bird away)
I Have The 45 / The B Side Is " God Only Knows "
I never understood the point of this release except for the fact that medleys of this nature were trending thanks to Stars on 45.
This went top ten in two trades and top 15 in another.
Never got any airtime here in Chicago.
In fact "American Top 40" was the only place I ever heard it.
Capitol did this with some of The Beatles' movie music and called it "The Beatles' Movie Medley", another useless cash grab by the company.
I remember the medley playing on WSTW (Wilmington, DE station, still on the air in 2024, and they played top 40, pop, rock, and oldies at the time) all the time, and I bought the record. They also played Beatles' medley and Stars on 45, got those singles too.
IIRC Motown tried to cash in on the fad when they released a Supremes medley on 45, and RCA released an Elvis medley of the more upbeat of his post-comeback special hits.
Not as bad as the medleys of old songs pulverised with a disco beat, but perhaps also more pointless as a result.
Whether or not you personally like it, it's called commerce. How was it a 'pointless' venture in 1981 for Capitol to release a new and skillfully-edited nostalgic medley such as this (filled with great 1960s memories) which so many of us enjoyed hearing that it became a Top 15 hit single on all three national charts?
