Hilarious how you're enjoying the realism of London while ignoring pedestrians smacking off your windshield lol
And you notice at 24 mins .. the only person he apologizes to hitting is another cabbie!! Haha love it!
He's a cab driver. That's pretty 7sual for him. Lol
🤦🏼♂️ my subconscious must be eeking out, what would Freud say 😂
@@TomtheTaxiDriver that you are suppressing your sociopathic self. Lol
Well how else is he going to get his fares? If they cant use their legs tben then they have no choice but to ride his cab 😉
Taxi driver has a day off and uses it to drive a taxi in a game 😂
Ironically called a busman's holiday ! ;]]
lol
Like those truck drivers who have a whole ass truck sim at home😂
You have to play Assassins Creed Syndicate. Obviously set in the Victorian era but I’m sure you’ve always wanted to be a taxi driver with a horse drawn carriage!
this is an amazing idea
Great idea!
Horse drawn taxi would be very eco friendly, surprised London hasn’t opted for that over electric 👍🏻😜
It's quite a bit more condensed and re-interpreted than this one though... Still would be interesting.
Back when horse drawn carriage was the major form of transport in London besides train of course. The streets were filled with horse shit, people were hired to clean the shit up and haul it to the countryside to help with fertilising in the countryside for farming. Nothing went to waste back then lol
The streets were kept as clean as possible but you can’t prevent horses from shitting
I was going to suggest exactly this
this video really shows your knowledge of London its actually mind-blowing how much you know! you could even tell the pavement was wider at some point lmao
Hahah! Thanks, I guess that’s what happens when you’re here everyday! It’s a mad house 😂
@@TomtheTaxiDriver im in my house every day and you know more about London than i do my own house haha!
You should see how brutal the London taxi cab test actually is
The historical and commercial knowledge was excellent: is this part of the London taxi knowledge test or accumulated though talking to fairs or self learned through passion?
@@gavdowns7442 they have to memorise every single road and route perfectly i recommend you to search up people taking the tests 👍🏼
Runs untold pedestrians over and doesnt say a thing, Lightly dinks another taxi: "Sorry Mate"
I love how not only does he know the layout of London but he knows the history behind the monuments, can notice architectural differences etc
I love how you run so many people but the only time you apologise is when you hit another taxi
🤪
LOL
I thought I knew a lot about London, but your memory particularly for all the different statues and buildings is very impressive. You've got a great brain Tom.
Thanks John, I think it helps when I drive past them every day haha, a bit easier to link them together too.
Not only do you have the knowledge, you absolutely could be a historical tour guide. Your genuine love for London really shows through in this video
Thanks for playing Tom. We worked very hard to capture a London that people who know it intimately would recognize. Wonderful seeing your reaction to it :)
I assume you worked on the game if you did massive congratulations!!! Unfortunately my gaming PC i saved up a long time to buy was stolen just before the game was released so I never got a chance to play it and for an London expat who grew up skating the streets of London this game is a dream come true and I cant wait for the day to play it
Well played! Really nostalgic for me this game as I lived in London for years before heading to Vietnam so it’s amazing to see the streets I used to trudge everyday!

I love the UA-cam algorithm, occasionally dropping me gems like this (:
When the algorithm works, it’s beautiful 👍🏻
Really interesting video. Algorithm did well this time
As a past Londoner, I loved this! I used to work in central and so seeing places brought back a lot of memories. Also, just to let you know, the reason why a lot of the statues are different is because they are art pieces that the devs don't have permission to replicate in game
14:34 - "it's not the London I know..." As a drone with red gas cylinders lands on the roof. lol

A lot of game Devs put in the effort to make a game the way they want it. People recognising the work they've put in, even if it's very few people, is rewarding. I love that you've been able to reveal the details and work that the Devs have put time into so that more people can appreciate it.
I was honestly impressed how you know the names of all those buildings an places this was oddly satisfying, still no idea why it ended up in my youtube recommended tho
Hate to be a party pooper but it's not really all that impressive, especially for a taxi driver, I'm a uni student but you can quite easily tell which buildings which and which building isn't in the game, everything's pretty accurate but just condensed.
@@sheikhtahmid7799 oh cool i probably just was impressed by it because i like going on tours of cities and iv never been to London
@@sheikhtahmid7799 I've seen his Geoguessr videos. Those are impressive.
I bought this game a couple of months ago purely to do the same as you -- I loved seeing how all the places I knew and walk down every day were so true to real life, and it was fun pointing out all the areas that were "wrong". Bishopsgate is true to life until you hit Norton Folgate where they miss out a small chunk of new developments, but the Shoreditch high street is bang on.
I could listen to you all day chatting about London history; it's one of my favourite things.
Thanks! I might have to do some more on this! Glad you enjoy 👍🏻
I've learnt more about London from this than I have done in the 10 years that I have lived here. Thanks for the amazing guide!
“There’s all this ‘abolish the police state’, it’s kind of scarily close to what we’re near in Contemporary London...
Let’s go see the London Eye!”
Tom: "I'm going to assume this is an interpretation of Rosebury Avenue". Me: Hmm, yes, quite.
I think that's Rosebery Avenue
It’s crazy how he’s not even looking at the map he just knows where to go
Its like when you dream you walk around the city. Its feels kinda correct but absolutely isnt.
That is such a good way to put it! 👍🏻 exactly this!
Get a PS2 and play The Getaway, that is a pretty accurate london map
he already has
Amazing game that
Good to see the future still has Jaguar E-types 17:12
Yeah you know level of detail in games is praiseworthy when, never mind a well done London, the game devs look at the schematics and blueprints of real landmarks and use that to build them in the game.
Like how they did it for Notre Dame in Paris, and then when the fire happened, the game studio gave the lot reconstructing the cathedral their research and stuff because it was so 1 to 1.
Love the video, love seeing you geek out about London.
On another point, super respectful to history of them, to put in beloved demolished landmarks like that.
Thanks Jack!
Yes there captured it perfectly for the purposes of the game 👍🏻 lots of nuances like the beep of the taxis and the buses, the sound of the pedestrian crossings, even hearing people talk on the street! Feels just like being in London.
Thanks again and many more geeking out on London videos to come 😉
"Let's see how accurate it is to London..."
*Proceeds to drive on the right*
You need to play The Getaway 2...
There is a extra game mode called "The Knowledge" where you earn a taxi licence if you complete it.
Wow never knew that !
Fingers crossed I can hopefully complete that haha!
Graphics and detail much better on tbhis game than The Getaway 2. I watched this video thinking the whole time this looks much better than Getaway.
The UA-cam algorithm brought me to a video of yours and now I'm down the rabbit hole. You have incredible talent. Your editing skills but also brain capacity to recall a city is unfounded. Amazing! You will go far.
Thank you Nick, all the best
It's bloody mental how much you know about London. I've spoken with a fair number of cabbies that know the roads very well, but almost none of them know the amount you do about both current and historical landmarks off the top of their heads.
That's because he has an interest in it. It's not just a source of income for him
We had to learn a lot as part of our Knowledge.
For me, I’m in London every day, it’s so easy to look up and just take in the history around me 👍🏻
Yes Tom's knowledge is exceptional.
@@johnorchin8567 I’m sure Tom would be the first to tell you that his knowledge isn’t exceptional, it’s the norm if you want to pass out. Like most cabbies I know it took me about 4 years to get it
Dat Guy It's definitely a knowledge to be proud of. My knowledge of London's streets etc was actually better thirty years ago, but I haven't kept up with all the changes......not needing to as I'm not a cabbie.
Im from Dublin and its so weird to hear the amount of streets with the same name as we have over here
Lol.
Yea a lot of major cities share London street names. Went to Portsmouth for the first time and keep finding loads!
There's a Shaftesbury Avenue in Swindon and it's full of council houses, a bit of a departure from the one in London
The UA-cam algorithm did well with this one. Old family friend, Ken who died a couple of years ago was a taxi driver in London for 40 years. Miss him to bits but how people like him and yourself did the knowledge is a mystery to me… takes a special ability to memorise that sort of thing. Best stories Ken had was not realising he had Mel Gibson in his cab one time because, and I quote, “he looked too short”, as well as Michael Caine who was very rude and aloof and so turned round and said “when I was younger you used to be my hero because you gave average looking people like me hope” 😂 legend who is sorely missed. Thank you for the great video, maybe one of these days I will end up hitching a ride with you ✌️
This isnt very realistic! Euston road wasn’t gridlocked! 😂
Yea, Camden council haven’t put any traffic restrictions up haha 😂
I learnt so much about London listening to you - and I'm a Londoner myself. Very interesting video!
cabbie instinct kicked in, talking about people coming out of the theatre not paying no mind really, instantly see's a person hailing him haha love it
You should check out The Getaway on PS2, great time capture of 2002 London :D
Thanks Larry, I’ve already made this video 👍🏻
@@TomtheTaxiDriver Ah great! Teach me not to look before commenting...
Um, GTA: London 1969? :P
@@Larry hello you

Ooh would love to do that! Love a good flight simulator!
@@TomtheTaxiDriver you should have someone give you POIs to find in the city. And I think there are DLC helicopters that make sightseeing a bit easier
Ooohhhh yess!!!!
Why is this so damn interesting? Subbed.
Lived in london all my life and this is the best cab ride I've ever had.
I want this guy to show me around London, so many things i've learned watching this!
I am also a tour guide haha! It helps
Almost both sleeves finished. When is the tattoo stories and stories about passengers reactions to you having them?
I had one lady who was so disgusted with them, she got in the cab and was like “oh I just can’t look at your arms, it’s the most revolting thing I’ve ever seen” 😂
Just told her they are are actually really fortunate birthmarks 👍🏻
This video was really enjoyable to watch! Love seeing it from the perspective of someone really knowledgeable about the city.
Now we want the reverse: Grab a random WDL player with lots of hours, and get him to drive to different places in London!
Bonus points if he does it without hitting anyone! :-D
I could do that!
Your knowledge is impeccable! I've worked in London for many years but I wasn't even aware half of these things existed until I watched this video! Great viewing!
The *millisecond* you pulled up to Euston to see the arch back (rightfully) where it should belong!! I really wish I hadn't spoiled this joy and had played the game blind!
Haha love this. I've been exploring London by bicycle for 20-odd years - a great way to get to know all it's interesting side alleys, snickets and short-cuts - so was a buzz watching you react to all this. Nice one.
Yes, do love getting out of the bike, o navigate it completely differently than in the cab 👍🏻
Apparently quite a lot of money was put in to rebuild Euston Arch so this could be accurate
That will be amazing if that came back 👍🏻
I think I learnt more history from this video than I did 4 years at high school.
Thanks Lee 👍🏻
Brilliant video, so much fun! I'm a Northerner but I love London and your knowledge is amazing!
Wicked video Tom! Thanks for sharing. Would love to see another on this game! 😁👊🏻
My dads a black cab cabbie. Just shows the difference of doing “the knowledge” and being a simple Uber driver following satnavs. Black Cabbies spend years on learning the roads and main points of Indy in the city. London black cabs are truely the best.
*interest
Hadn’t realised how little I knew about London’s history and landmarks.
Id love to see you explore more of the city, I feel like there is much still left to discover. I like the comparisons with real life! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us :)
I would love a more fleshed out London, with working Underground and shops. Like GTA IV did with NYC but London
As someone who suggested this I’m so happy you’re doing this!!!
Thank you! Plenty of great ideas from everyone 👍🏻
great analysis pal. born, living, working, partying in london and i agree with the fact that they added the good points of london Playing the game at the moment.. love it
I’m guessing all the original London statues are copyrighted hence in the game generic statues.
Loved this video
In general, statues and buildings visible from public areas aren't afforded the same copyright protection in UK law as they are in some other countries such as France.
CDPA 1998 (as amended), Part I, Section 62:
(1) This section applies to (a) buildings, and (b) sculptures, models for buildings and works of artistic craftsmanship, if permanently situated in a public place or in premises open to the public.
(2) The copyright in such a work is not infringed by- (a) making a graphic work representing it, (b) making a photograph or film of it, or (c) making a broadcast of a visual image of it.
(3) Nor is the copyright infringed by the issue to the public of copies, or the communication to the public, of anything whose making was, by virtue of this section, not an infringement of the copyright.
Part I, Section 4(2) covers some definitions that apply throughout Part I:
“building” includes any fixed structure, and a part of a building or fixed structure;
“graphic work” includes- (a) any painting, drawing, diagram, map, chart or plan, and (b) any engraving, etching, lithograph, woodcut or similar work;
“photograph” means a recording of light or other radiation on any medium on which an image is produced or from which an image may by any means be produced, and which is not part of a film;
“sculpture” includes a cast or model made for purposes of sculpture.
I'd say statues in a game are exempted for the models being graphic works representing real life statues, and the textures being graphic works and/or photographs, however there is a problem with this assumption: the laws granting freedom of panorama have not been tested when it comes to video games. My logical view on software APIs required a drawn out battle between Google and Oracle before I could point to case law somewhere that supported my view (that may or may not be the same stance taken by English law courts), which isn't something I can do yet with buildings/sculptures in video games.
Rather than copyright infringement, it may be the game studio and/or game designers' perspective/opinion on freedom of panorama (which doesn't necessarily need to line up with what the laws are in their country). Freedom of panorama opinions/laws are so country specific that when two MEPs tried to get the EU to harmonise the rules in 2015, one wanted freedom of panorama expanded to all countries, and the other wanted it completely removed from all countries, resulting in the EU deciding to do nothing. The Wikimedia Commons have a separate policy for every country: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Freedom_of_panorama
I grew up in brixton, they nailed the high street and the market backstreets love it
Loved this video, you really notice the smallest details that are wrong, like what one of the buildings is built from etc. your knowledge of London and its history is awesome. Really great video Tom.
I picked the game up from Argos mega cheap, had no idea what it was about, it’s absolutely epic! Was shocked like you how real it was by Tommies, and then up the ramp to Waterloo Stn, amazing detail!!
Lol "someone hailing me down there"
It’s such a weird reflex, I’ll be passenger in a friends car and someone on the street will extend their arm to look at their watch and I’m like 👀
You could play Assassin's Creed Syndicate too. It's set in 1790 London or something, so it would be cool to see what you think about older London
It looks so cool, would love to see what London was like back then so might be fun to play 👍🏻
@@TomtheTaxiDriver Oh, absolutely! Can't wait
There are unnecessary changes I find. They have removed the Dublin castle pub and many elements from Camden, most of Oxford Street is missing, no Hyde park, Soho is gone and most of the south of the river has been remapped
A lot of the changes will be for performance reasons. They need to cut sightlines because otherwise the computer has too many polygons to render and it will slow the game down or worse.
I don't know how I found your channel a few weeks ago but it's great for binge watching
Thank you WoodsterFM! Plenty more to come 👍🏻
Gotta love at the 12:00 mark, when he runs over a pedestrian and the ad on the back of the taxi changes to a skull lmao
Love this video and your knowledge of our capital, and not just where things are, but the history behind those things! Amazingly impressive!
Thanks Dave! I get to spend a lot of time in London so it would be rude not to take an interest in it
Yes! Been waiting for this vid. Mate your knowledge of London and its history is insane! Great to hear your thoughts on the map too.
Thank you so much! Love doing these, almost as fun as driving the streets themselves.
I want to see a video where you drive around London with the same road etiquette as you have in the game
love this video, and a great display of knowledge!
Brilliant video, mate. I throughly enjoyed the history tour of London. Would have another video to be a fly on a wall (or windscreen) and just get a tour of London. Cheers
Damn, you're so knowledgeable and must be a brilliant guide to London, let alone a cab driver! I'd find it amazing being driven around London listening to all your rambles and niche facts. Such an incredible city, and only now do I realise there's a lot I haven't seen of it yet!
“Don’t want the g wagon” it was an old land rover defender 😭
0:52 was about to pick up on that too lol
Really enjoyed your enthusiasm giving us this comparison tour

Awesome vid. I rarely go to the Old Smoke but this has my curiousity peeked. Nice to see a RHD driving game for a change too (I still drive on the left in GTAV etc).
This video was incredibly satisfying to watch
This is really weird, I have no where near the knowledge of London as a taxi driver but I still recognise a lot of places here
I hope one day we get an entirely accurate map of london in a game, I have visited and want to live there. Would love to be able to visit the REAL london virtually. I tried this game and did find some areas I visited eg; russell square, museum of london. Unfortunately the smaller areas that I went to which arent tourist areas were not accurate. Yes some of the roads are smaller than in real life, and i was soooo disapointed that the metro is not enterable, and all the metro stations are closed off. Imagine seeing how busy paddington actually gets in a game.
London does not have a metro ffs 😂
@@JackCraft-tm9hjthe London Underground is a metro network.
Another fab video Tom I’ve just ordered this game thank you
Great game, serious detail. Gutted no Hampstead, Primrose Hill, Belize Park, Chelsea, Fulham, Billionaires Row, Hampstead, Finchley Road. Like you said felt strange with Roads missing it just hurt slightly as there is so much detail but then broken. Great video!!
Cracking video, thanks. I've been looking for a game set in the UK, this is on sale on Steam at time of writing.
The road layout of London changes all the time. Stratford Broadway is a 2 way road again. TFL and Waltham Forest Council have managed to make the rounabout at Maryland into a junction. The right turning method for North Street, Romford, onto the A12 is nearside to nearside instead of offside to offside.
Yea London is slowly removing all the roundabouts and decent road systems. So bizarre because roundabouts were added int he 60's/70's to keep traffic moving!
Never searched for this video but this was crazily informative
I’ve been waiting for someone to explain this ever since the game came out! Thank you!
Not a problem Billy, thank you 😊

Gets in the wrong way.

Haha amazing video my friend!!
Quality stuff mate, seen loads of places I recognise too!
Being from Highbury, felt like I was done so dirty when I checked out the Islington region of the map, messed up Angel so bad. I get they had map size constraints but I still was a shame the way they did it.
You should check out Getaway Black Monday! They get most of central pretty spot on and they filled out Soho with most of the proper shops that are there in real life. old game but still a laugh for free roam
(edit) I just saw you did play Getaway!!
Nothing important in Highbury anyway!
@@ruixingsong9039 can't really argue with that but our station is decent
Excellent. Ibwas born in London and pretty much know most of the main places, but I learned a lot here, today. Thank you
It’s great to see how accurate the game is, but your knowledge of London is absolutely extraordinary - well done!
They've still got the old underground entrance in Trafalgar Square. That's been gone a long time.
Loved watching this thanks Tom
The reason the metropolitan line surfaces like that is because of the steam trains that used to run on it. All that steam's gotta go somewhere, it can't stay below the ground.
Feels weird driving on the left on a game even tho I’m English as virtually all games drive on the right lol
I think it’s more accurate than other Watch Dogs games. People in Chicago and San Francisco said the street layouts were fictional but with real landmarks
So funny lady just appears out of nowhere and he didn’t even see it 😂1:20
Your knowledge of London history is fantastic I also got excited to see the Euston Arch 👍
I like how it only took until 1:22 for the game to show how buggy it is.
