No cvt, no cylinder deactivation, no direct injection, no turbochargers, no 10 speed transmission. VERY reliable. Dear auto manufacturers, are you noticing a pattern??
The auto manufacturers are listening to the government more than the customers. And I suppose if you want insurance you'll continue to get bailed out by the government with tax payer money... you keep doing what they tell you to do.
Yes, they've wised up and HAVE changed the 4 Runner...they cannot have people NOT buying new cars every 5 years like US car makers who make car to break at 75K miles
Only 4runner owners know the feeling of owning one.. not breaking down and go anywhere, I feel so good while driving mine it feels like a tank on the road..
Great vehicle, the only downside on the limited is full time 4 wheel drive. When one tire goes, you have to replace all 4 tires, heavier vehicle more maintenance else YOU will have problems at 125K - 150K miles. NEVER rely on manufacturers recommendations on maintenance, it's WAY too long. Change all fluids alot more frequently else YOU will pay for VERY expensive repairs. The dealers will give you big-time push-back, F the dealers, find a mechanic or a dealer that will cooperate. Happy travels! 👍

What are you averaging for MPG ? I’m around 19 MPG combined on the stock tire size but have all-terrains so they are a little heavier then stock tire. I take it slow ! My recent calculation was 19.95 MPG.
First new car after driving 25+ years, I picked a 2020 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium. I was looking for my first SUV that had longevity and low maintenance costs. All the research led to the 4Runner. I can't complain. Currently after 3 1/2 years it has 13,600 miles. I expect that it will last for at the very least, the next 20 years :D
Amazing reliability, but that POOR small frontal overlap score from IIHS is spooky and also the reason I’m trading in my 22 Durango that’s been very reliable
Just change all the fluids on schedule, including the transmission fluid every 50K. There is no such thing as “lifetime fluid”. It will only get you past the warranty period.
When I first bought my brand new 2021 5th gen I thought it’s got too much sensors. After 1 year it wasn’t that bad compared to modern cars with all sorts of bells and whistles crsp that you pay for and don’t need. 4Runner is very simple to maintain and work on.
