- Enter the Black Gate of Mordor, walk through New York City, dine under the Dome, and leave through the Rainbow Room. On the way, you'll eat the perfect omelette, cotton candy spring rolls, solidified gin & tonic, light-as-air cellulose toast, edible "plastic" fish skin, a snowball flavored with "pan con tomate," cherry-glazed lamb brain, aerated foie gras, and you'll drink goat's milk dulce de leche straight from the udder. Does this sound unreal? Visit Alchemist 2.0 - the dream-turned-reality of Chef Rasmus Munk.
Located on Refshaleøen in Copenhagen, Denmark, the new Alchemist is part restaurant, part art installation, and part think piece on issues like sustainability and food waste - a dining experience like no other. Chef Rasmus Munk’s visionary thinking is surely paving the way for a new kind of dining experience, where food meets art and culinary issues are as much on the table as your meal.

My only fear in going to a place like this is I'll try to eat a piece of the dinnerware or a napkin, thinking it's food lmao
Haha, it's pretty easy to not misunderstand. They keep you informed about each dish. :)

It's an incredible restaurant!

Our craziest dining experience yet! What I would do for another one of those omelettes...
Let's go back soon!
Seems like a Ultra Violet ripoff. Did you try that?
I have not tried it, but from what I have seen it doesn't compare too much.
Probably should come to perth Australia to goto wildflower fine dining (look it up!!)
Wife and i can take you guys!
@@chookstarrocket6 Is the restaurant called Wildflower?
Happy to see more videos from you guys. I really enjoy seeing all the delicious food you guys eat on Instagram.
Thanks for the kind words!
I enjoyed every single second of this. It entertained, I learned something and was amazed what food can become in the hands of skilled and lucid chef(s). There's a lot of hard work, exploration and knowledge behind the dishes that might seem absurd or ridiculoss. I admire this.
Glad you liked it! You make some great points.
This is incredible! Another level. I love how they include other senses besides taste.
Exactly, but never sacrificing flavor.
In love with these videos. Living the life vicariously....
Glad you like them! :)
What an incredible culinary experience! Everything looked so artistic and amazing. Thanks for sharing it.

By far one of my fav vids so far. I would love to visit that place, although, I am NOT eating those chicken legs. I love the ambience and the atmosphere.

Injected pork neck is amazing. Love the irony. Love these videos !
Cool dish, indeed. Thanks!
Nice to see you finally eating there. Have been looking forward to your video :D I ate there myself in September last year. This restaurant is so much more than only food, the experience as a whole is incredible. My personal favorite was the omelette. Great work with the videoes once again!
Thanks a lot! This was from September too, actually. Omelette was our favorite too - it made the top 25 list this year: andershusa.com/the-top-25-best-dishes-of-2019/
Just when everyone thought molecular cuisine was dead...
Then, boom! Alchemist was born.
It was never dead, ever been to Barcelona haha.
Isn’t that the whole point of molecular gastronomy, to look like something it isn’t?
Molecular was like an other phase in cooking history. It blew up, become all hot thing and then everybody explored it in every possible direction. Classics were born and replicated and failures were disguarded and forgotten. The culinary world took what worked and incorporated into there tool box
I love this so much!! Beautiful video! Beautifully shot! Beautiful dishes! (and diners)
Thanks, Jessie.
Wow that was amazing
I love it
Thanks!
So crazy but really really good... For me one of the best restaurants in the world 👍👍👍
No doubt about it. Which other restaurants are on your top list?
After watching your video a visit was a must! Secured a reservation just now for June! 🙂

I would say to each their own taste. Some of those plates I wouldn't eat, but very creative.

Thank you for your content Anders and Kaitlin! the video and music fits so well together, I use it to stay calm and study for exams!
I also have a question. I am allergic to alcohol. When you go dine in these places, is it optional to drink alcohol? Or is it a standard that everyone must drink alcohol? Thank you.
Hi and thanks for the kind words! Happy to hear your videos make you calm. :D As for alcohol in restaurants, it is always optional, luckily. :)
Wow. Very nice

Of course Lars Seier is there lmao 9:04
Haha, of course.
Nice to see the money man behind the restaurant Lars Seier and his wife in the background 9:05
He is also a co owner of 3 Michelin stared restaurant Geranium in Copenhagen
That's correct. He's an easter egg in more than one of our videos. ;D
How much did this cost? As a complete experience?
We always put the price in the caption. However, this was shot a few years ago and the prices here have gone up (along with the wait list of about 100.000 people wanting to dine here). This meal now costs 4600 DKK, so about $560 just for the food for one person. If you get the most insane wine pairing, the total bill will be 14.600 DKK - around $2100 per person - but you are more likely to pay around $1000 total per head.
possibly the next elbulli?
Certainly continuing the work of El Bulli.
At which course were you full?
It was actually a very good amount of food, not too much or too little. Nicely paced out too.
And congratulations to that restaurant for getting 2 Michelin stars 🙏🏻🍾⭐️⭐️ I'm proud to be a Dane 🇩🇰☺️
You should be! Great achievement.
Anders Husa & Kaitlin Orr Yes, that's what I am, so what's your point?
@@TheButcher83 Our point was only to say that you have every right to be proud to be a Dane! :)
Anders Husa & Kaitlin Orr thanks 🙏🏻🇩🇰 its okay 😊
You shouldnt feel proud at all. It has absolutely nothing to do with you. Go achieve something yourself, then you can feel proud
Have you tried Enigma? I wonder how these two restaurants stack up, with Enigma being the brainchild of Albert Adria himself.
Yes, I (Anders) tried Enigma in 2017. Was not impressed, but I've heard it's better now. Alchemist is very different in either case, even though the concept is somewhat similar.
Very interesting but what did you think about the food?
Loved it! Follow us on Instagram for more recommendations: @andershusa and @carnivorr.

maybe i'll accidentally eat the plate too lmao
Who knows, maybe it's edible? You won't know unless you try...
@@andersandkaitlin yea
awesome place food looked fun my only quibble is mainly with the ingredients. i can't wait for the day fine dining does not equate to the same ingredients. caviar foie truffles langoustine scallop in shell list goes on and on.. great to get them dont get me wrong but doesn't matter if its europe scandinavia u.s. asia you are getting some sort of a version of the same ingredients over and over. yeah they are manipulated to be different textures but end of day why does fine dining have to be under the guise of "here's a fat lump of caviar isn't this great". i'd personally be excited by what deep down makes someone tick and how their personality shines through not just through technique but also ingredients.
Thanks for your input! Not a bad point you're making at all. However, I feel that even though a restaurant like Alchemist do choose to have these ingredients on the menu, 1) they do fun new things with them, and 2) they also have other dishes with way less familiar and easy-to-like ingredients.
@@andersandkaitlin yeah i'm not directly focusing on this place in particular this just happened to be the video i left the comment on because in reality it could be left on almost any video of fine dining. its weird to almost know the menu before you go in without ever being somewhere. i know if i go into any fine dining place at this point there is a list of ingredients i will get which is weird to me. fine dining should be the forefront of unpredictability and it doesnt necessarily mean that the ingredients need to be exotic or out there either just different. its turned into a genre in which the song doesnt change its just the techniques used to play the song. if you went to this place and they didn't serve you foie truffles caviar langoustine etc and say the "food for thought" dish was made with peaches to mimic the texture of foie gras would you have felt like it was not worth the money?
@@wolf-yw9wk Again, I don't disagree with you, this is true for many places. But of all restaurants to choose as grounds to discuss this topic, I feel Alchemist definitely has some surprises in stock- it's not often we see lamb brain on a menu or an improved omelette for that matter. There are some really creative dishes here unlike any other fine dining restaurant we've seen, at least!
@@andersandkaitlin i 100% agree that's why i was saying its not about this place per se just happened to be the post i was asking the question. my point is more along the lines of thinking chefs in general think you as a diner would mind if these ingredients are not on the menu so they stay in this same zone when most likely you wouldn't mind if it was not on menu. something like say alchemist is so highly creative those ingredients wouldn't have mattered to your overall excitement to the night it was the creativity that brought you in.
WTH is going on with the vine bottles there? This looks huge.
And they like Austrian vines. 🙂
Are restaurants usually cool with you filming everything? Do you tell them beforehand? Anyone ever say no?
Hey. Great question! First of all, we are very discreet when filming. It's the same camera used for photos. Most restaurants don't even know we are filming. I've made the mistake a few times of asking in advance, and once it became a big deal where they probably thought we would roll in with a camera crew, lights, gear etc., so I find that not asking in advance is better.
Anders Husa & Kaitlin Orr cool to know, thanks!
@@andersandkaitlin .... do you think it's fair?
@@mibi5041 Is what fair?
@@andersandkaitlin is it fair to not asking permission for filming?
Imagine having an food loving billionaire as your Investor, and he tells you that you can build the Ultimate dining experience of your dreams. And you don’t have to think about the costs!
This is what you end up with!
This is the most expensive restaurant ever built in Denmark and probably the world!
It’s unlikely that it will ever recoup its costs.
His investor Lars Seier Christensen (former owner of Saxo bank”)
Invested 76 million DNK/11,5 million USD in order for Rasmus Munk to create his Dream!
After he visited for the first time he said it was worth all the money. Yes it was a expensive but it was never meant to be a business “Investment” but rather a personal investment because he loves dining experiences!
Everything you see, hear, smell, taste that you experience when entering the 2 doors! Are part of the experience. Everything are controlled from the light and sound in the elevator and everything you will encounter are part of the experience!
Yeah, no chef could afford this, haha.
When food become art
But luckily also tasty!
and stops being food
never have i imagined, getting food inside a mouse trap
Do you mean the chicken cage?
Was the snowball literally just ice in olive oil?
No, as the description says, it was shaved ice that tasted like a "pan con tomate" and the olive oil was the final touch. :)
How expensive is it and what country?
All this info is in the title and description of the video. :)
Read the title, for crying out loud!
How much does it cost? For 1 person?
Price is in the caption. :)
Anders is handsome!
Hah! Thanks
How do they account for people with food intolerances?
They are professionals and can accomodate most stuff, I'm sure.
Not sure I can get on board with that tongue one
Just a silicon tongue. :D
How much did it cost you?
We always put the price in the description. This meal was DKK 2500 when we went in 2020, but now it's DKK 4900!
how much is it ?
The price is in the description.

Thumb nail if this video looks like the velvet underground cover 😭
Because it is a remake of that. ;)
It's called Wharol 'cause of that
I love gourmet/ Michelin food... Especially New Nordic style... But I have to say, that this restaurant seems a bit too "haute cuisine" for me...
Luckily, it's as much about flavor as presentation! Give it a go. :)
what did the snowball taste like
Tomato water!
How can you afford this?!😂
Content creation is our full-time job and visiting the most impressive restaurants on earth is part of that!
i came upon this because of a clip of the making of the restaurant. I dont think there is any bad intensions from the owners but to me as an old fart its just too many impressions and too much going on to fully enjoy the meal / meals ... but if you enjoyed it thats all that counts
It's definitely an intensive experience and not just a regular meal. Not something you do every weekend. ;)
If you want to see how fun a partner will be on a date this is a good one,,,, if he or she are boring, you will know right away.

600/800€ guys !!!! Wtf !!!
Okay it's amazing but we need to come back with feet on the ground
The menu here now is about €600 now, yes, but well worth the money. It takes 100 employees every night to create this show for about 40 guests, with 30.000 on the wait list.
this girl is shitting money and great food!
i got 99 problems, but my sh*ts ain't one!
so they are re- using this tongue that everyones licked?
Hate to tell you, but cutlery at most restaurants is not disposable either.
Do us a favour if its okay with you, instead of saying its good, say its definition like creamy, lil bit of citrus taste, heavy garlic, etc
Are you referring to the description of the dishes in the video? They are not about the taste or flavor, it's just listing the content of the plate, the ingredients etc.
Nono. I mean like when you decide to speak about the dish use very simple description of flavour would help a lot. Ex why you like the dish, was it too spicy or strong on certain aspects
So the viewer can get a general feel of what's it like
A great menu that is not only about the food but is accompanied by some entertainment is great, especially when at least for one evening you want to forget about how bad the world is sometimes, and just enjoy and relax. But this a seven-hour, fifty-course meal interrupted by hints about how awful the world is (plastic in the oceans) and how you have to make it better (donate blood) would simply over-burden my senses and make me feel awkward and uncomfortable.
No pressure to visit!
The sewage line in Copenhagen would have been jammed the next morning. Someone took a big dump.
Children who just learned how to go potty also like poop jokes. Just saying.
if its more than 50 euros u been mugged i say ...

It's the chef's point to highlight how bad most chickens are treated (he gets his chickens from a farm where they lead a good life).
@@andersandkaitlin Well, when I'm out for fine dining at such a high-class place I'd consider it a given that their chickens have been treated responsibly before slaughtering. I would not want to be reminded that elsewhere animals were not so fortunate.
@@einundsiebenziger5488 Unfortunately, that's not the case at most high-end restaurants at all. Places like Alchemist are pushing for a change. If you would rather close your eyes to these issues, then Alchemist is indeed not the best place for you to visit. But then again, there's a waiting list of 100.000 people here every time tickets are released, so I don't think they'll notice your absence.
