Right! That makes sense though, because wasn't it established in a later episode that the dad did motorcycle stunts for a living (or at least was good enough to pretend it was his job)? He's not the only the more "fun parent", but also naturally seems the type to be ok with thinking outside the box and living on the edge a little, as long as you know what the heck you're doing (which Dexter does at least about 90% of the time, when he isn't distracted). I just realized, this exchange was really wise. Sure, Dad wanted to keep the dog more and Dexter was worried of the implications of having a pet. But from Dad's perspective, he saw it as his kid knowing all the responsibilities, making him mentally ready to own one. Actually really cool.
There’s an episode where his Dad ACTUALLY discovers his Laboratory whilst cleaning and doesn’t investigate due to the fact he doesn’t want to clean all of it and walks away.
I always imagined that the mother would have that reaction to dexter's actual lab. Like she would see it and be all "It's so CLEAN!!" I think there was a episode where Dexters dad was supposed to be cleaning the house, accidentally opens the lab and just says "If she thinks i'm cleaning all this shes insane" and then just closes the door as if its just another regular part of the home.
There is an episode where he makes a mechanical parrot that repeats everything he says and DeeDee damages it, so when he tries to stop the bird from revealing he has a lab he himself accidentally reveals it, and DeeDee comments 'great job dexter now you have to wipe mom and dads memory again' indicating they have stumbled on it a few time and that he, in fact, did wipe their memories.

I used to gave two Labradors as well my dad keeps giving them away but I can assure you that they’re his trusted friends. First dog is a black Labrador his name is Shadow my dad didn’t want him anymore because he keeps running away just to find someone to mate so my dad gave Shadow to his friend even though he’s paraplegic he has a female service dog who’s not fixed and she’s perfect for Shadow so my dad lets him go so he can have puppies with his mate. Second dog is Yellow Labrador his name is Kenny, he’s so rebellious he basically chewed everything and digging the backyard he gave him away to his childhood friends so they can take care of him he has a playmate as well. I miss them so much as of right now my dad owns two dogs they’re not huge but they are super sweet and well trained they are Shakes and Gizmo they’ve been with us for 9 years and counting. So my dad is okay with medium or small dogs because huge dogs like Labradors is hard to train them even though it’s his opinion.
As epic as this scene was, the scene prior to this when Dexter was using Dee Dee as a stick and her walking away all annoyed saying "I don't have to STICK around for this!" Had me Rollin!!! 😂😂😂😂
I was waiting for this conversation for so long on this show to find out it was about the dog had me so weak “How long have you been keeping this lab a secret from me??” 🤣🤣
I was just wondering myself and it's been a long time since I've watched this show and all, but why does Dexter keep his laboratory a secret from his parents? I've seen other cartoon shows where children would have their own laboratories, such as Jimmy Neutron with his lab and Susan and Mary Test from Johnny Test, and their parents know about them having high-tech laboratories even though they don't seem to mind. Dexter, however, always keeps his lab a secret from his parents even though his sister, Dee Dee, knows about it, but she never tells anyone else about Dexter's secret.
There was an episode that involved Dexters monkey and the lab gets revealed to his parents they forget about it until monkeys identity is brought up by dexter at the end he ends up erasing their memories and the monkey does it to dexter also at the end but as far as that I think that’s the only time his lab is revealed to his parents
There was another episode that he blabs about his lab when he builds a mechanical parrot and at the very end of the episode he straight up mentions his lab to his parents the episode ends right there
No reason per se, just a premise of having a Secret Laboratory where experiments happen without the oversight of the parents would be "dangerous" to say the least (as a lot of failed experiments do end up being dangerous and life threatening). IMO this was a time where having a secret from the parents is the "Cool Kid" thing to do. Deedee doesn't blab about the Secret Lab is all due to her having power over Dexter, where she would sometimes get him to make her things and whatnot. Then again, keeping a secret with a sibling also shows a close bond, despite both of them having very contrary personalities against each other. If for reference, we can take Fairy Odd Parents' Timmy Turner having access to Fairy Magic and the times when the parents do find out about the Magic, your mileage might vary.
Labs are some of the smartest dogs out there. I had a black lab when I was younger and she managed to figure out how to turn on the TV in my room. For a few months my mom would get on my case about leaving the TV on when I fell asleep but then one morning she appologized to me and said that she caught the dog turning it on and watching it.
Dexter lists the responsibility of dog ownership and his dad is just like “oh good. Then I don’t have to talk you every day to be responsible for the dog like a lot of parents have to do when their kid sneaks a dog into the house”
I didn't get the joke back when I was a kid. I always though that Dexter's dad actually saw the laboratory (since Dexter left the entrance open when leaving the room), but just got distracted by the dog and changed focus. Considering the type of character Dexter's dad was, it kind of made sense at the time 😅
They got us real good. I really thought he did saw the Laboratory and Dexter needs some explaining to do and the "Dexter, how long have you been keeping this Lab a secret from me" part always makes me laugh. 🤣
The reason he created his lab was to have a safe place to hide his experiments. Granted, Dee Dee ruins that, which makes Dexter all the more determined to not let others learn about it.
I love the joke that the dad wants him to keep the dog and Dexter rolls out all the typical excuses parents give not to have animals xD

I don't know why that last part made me laugh lol.
@@Flamyll ._. Immortality isn't real
The door was open to Dexter’s lab[oratory], and his dad still didn’t notice, and only focused on the dog.
I forgot how powerful his dad voice is Jesus
I'm not gonna lie, they had us in the first half
My heart almost stopped when I heard the dad asking about the lab...what a relief😅
I cant believe Dexter's dad was the Bay Harbour Butcher.
The voice actors making the characters their own is… i miss it
As epic as this scene was, the scene prior to this when Dexter was using Dee Dee as a stick and her walking away all annoyed saying "I don't have to STICK around for this!" Had me Rollin!!! 😂😂😂😂
dad: holy smokes = dexter panicking at 0:13 LOL
This is the moment Dexter became Doofenshmirtz...
0:13 Scooby snacks
Don’t worry, It’s all owned by Warner Bros.
That means they're in the same universe
Wow, what a smart writing, haven't seen Dexter's lab for decades - should rewatch it sometimes!
Anyone else notice the Scooby-Doo reference lol
Lmao I just noticed that! Lmao
To be honest, who wouldn't? Its right in our faces imo
We found the Easter egg!
I bet so many of us knew exactly what episode this was before we even clicked on this video.
I was waiting for this conversation for so long on this show to find out it was about the dog had me so weak “How long have you been keeping this lab a secret from me??” 🤣🤣
This doesn't have my favorite part
Dad: Dexter, didn't we have a talk about responsibility
Dexter: We, who's we?
THANK YOU. Single best joke in the entire episode.
There was another episode that he blabs about his lab when he builds a mechanical parrot and at the very end of the episode he straight up mentions his lab to his parents the episode ends right there
Dexter came berore them, so the others just decided to change the standard.
He doesn't want to cop to the electric bill
You just know the entire episode was made for this one joke.
I like how Dexter's parents doesnt wondering why Dexter is wearing lab clothes all the time
Cartoon Network in its prime man...those were the days
It’s just good his dad didn’t discover Dexter’s dark passenger blood slides and all.
I gotta admit Dad had me fooled too the first time when I thought the gig was finally up about the laboratory!😂
Man I can’t believe I forgot the old teeth chatter thing characters would do when they got nervous. Time really flies.
Phew! I thought for a moment that he had discovered Dexter's Laboratory. But instead he found the dog, which is called a labrador. :)
That's the point😊
@@DanyRobertHunselar-sq3kp Ah yes, but I think most dont realize. :)
The way Dexter was shivering and shaking in fear, I was thinking to myself: "Dexter, you are a dead duck."
Dad’s voice actor is legendary
I grew up with a black lab as my best friend, so this joke has always been always been one of my favorites. I miss that dog
His dad cracked a dad joke without even knowing it.
I love how the show added clickbait before it was a popular subject
Scooby Snacks in Dexter. That's like a shout out.
God this show was a stable of my childhood.
Considering the type of character Dexter's dad was, it kind of made sense at the time 😅
0:02 dexter is a redditor
Le pupperino
My first time seeing this. I was on the edge of my seat when we were thinking Dexter’s dad discovered the labertory
They got us real good. I really thought he did saw the Laboratory and Dexter needs some explaining to do and the "Dexter, how long have you been keeping this Lab a secret from me" part always makes me laugh. 🤣
When you realise the dog’s licking sound is some dude slurping away at the microphone
OHH GOSH I JUST LOVE LABRAdores--
😂😂😂😂😂
I named my dog after Dexter. I had my best 14 years with him (GSD). RIP Dex you were the best boii.
At least the dog is well behaved.
They got the labrador facial expression of perpetual friendliness down perfectly.
Haha, dad asks son "are you gonna keep him?"
I misread the title as “Dexter’s Dad discovers Dexter’s Dad” and was really proud of him
Why does he have to hide being extremely intelligent in the first place?
I never questioned it as a kid, now I don't know why he shouldn't.
The reason he created his lab was to have a safe place to hide his experiments. Granted, Dee Dee ruins that, which makes Dexter all the more determined to not let others learn about it.
I last used to watch Dexter's Lab back in 2006 but as soon i saw the title of the video i remembered this scene exactly
it's funny how the title of the video tricked us exactly like the show did
It could have been worse, imagine his dad said that he’s a disappointment when he discovered Dexter’s secret laboratory.
Umm why isn’t the dad supposed to know the laboratory exists?
The lab is a euphemism for the Piss Drawer. Every kid has one.
The electric bill is through the roof
I cant believe dexter was the bay harbour scientist
