Nearly 1,000 people have been arrested, police say, since Mr Khan was held in Islamabad on charges which he denies.

Pakistan has been under the military boot for 75 years. People want freedom and want the military corruption to end. Most recently, General Bajwa retired with a self-disclosed $48 million per his own tax filings. His salary was $577 per month. The people who leaked this information are in jail. The military runs a parallel economy that is unaccounted for and pays no taxes. Military is the largest land developer and have their venal fingers in every industry. Bribery for foreign hardware purchase is rife and can turn any General into a multi-millionaire. They run death squads and 'disappear' people. Journalists who speak about military excesses show up dead in roadside ditches. They threaten or buy judges. They are in nexus with corrupt, hand-picked politicians like the Sharifs and the Zardaris, who share in the loot. They collect over 50% of national spending after foreign debt service. The surprise is not that the people are revolting. The surprise is that they have waited this long. Western powers need to understand that the military cannot win in the long term. Instead of paying a one-line lip service to democracy as the White House Press Secretary did yesterday, it is time to stand with the people of Pakistan who demand nothing more than a clean government, education for their kids and a fair chance in life.

This political situation in Pakistan reminds me of the past political crisis in Bangladesh when Khaleda Zia was held for the same reason. Basically it’s a political party battle in both countries (PAK & BD) brief history, Bangladesh claimed independence from Pakistan in 1971

Khan must never forget what happened to those before him, regardless of the circumstances, like Musharraf, the Bhutto family members, etc. The army never lets you rule or gain too much power.

Very poor analysis!!! It is also wrong to qualify Saleem Safi's fantasies as an analysis. Saleem Safi does not qualify as an analyst or expert on global political trends, which is revealed from his completely illogical and irrational reasonings.. He has completely forgotten, perhaps in enmity of Imran or maybe under some other attractive or threatening influence , that it was the democrats rather than the republicans who conspired against Imran's government. Khalilzad is a staunch republican, neocon, and he is now not a part of the current American establishmet. Moreover, Khalilzad's initiative to mediate between Imran and Bajwa in his personal capacity does not disprove American (democrats') conspiracy for the former neither represent the current American establishment nor the democrats. Instead, he is a fierce opponent of the democrats. How can the democrats trust and launch their staunch opponent to perform such a delicate task for them? Furthermore, why should a republican, neocon work for the interests of the democrats? There are dozens more arguments to reject Safi's nonsense, but I think for the calibre of Safi, the above couple of arguments are more than enough.

I live 0.3 km from Imran Khan's home since I born. How brave leader he is who is not only recognized by Pakistani people but the whole world knows him. He was in favor of TALIBAN & used to say that the peace of world exists in dialogue with Taliban. Nobody listened him but atlast NATO had to left Afghanistan and imposed the spreaded war on Pakistan which was dealt by Pakistan Army very efficiently. But our Army is not capable to control the political situations of Pakistan. Better for them if they (Pak Army) take aside from Politics of Pakistan and do their work but they have never learned it because they want luxury living in Pakistan and without their existence in politics, they can't get luxuries.
Shame on them and even those who are supporting them.
It's not for whole Army because we love our Army but it's for few GENERALS who are doing all this. They will not be successful this time because they have started a war against a person who struggled & put his 27 years until now to fight against these evils in Pakistan.
