What happens when your loving Dad tells you he honestly can't afford a saxophone and instead sits down and strums you some chords from his heart RIP Allan Holdsworth Greatest ever
Never be another like Alan, not only because of the talent and dedication it takes to get this good, but (sadly enough), because nobody cares anymore. When I was a kid genius like this were celebrated. I remember conversations back then with my friends about bands and musicians and ones techniques and style vs another’s...That was a time before social media. Now what’s celebrated is political populism, simplistic pop music and who’s got the catchiest video on tik tok. American society in rapid decline.
@@88anarahammertimeI mean, Allan lived in the U.S. longer than the U.K., played more shows in the U.S. than any other country from the 80s onward, and had a pretty good fan base here (not as much as he deserved, but nothing to scoff at). I think like most countries, true talent will go unappreciated by the majority of the population, but there will always be a smaller group that recognizes the genius. Same with Japan, Allan had/has a lot of fans there, but the majority of people there aren’t gonna know who he is. It seems like the 1970s was the last decade that true musical genius was recognized on a mainstream level, and guys who really pushed the boundaries of music in the 1980s onward (like Allan Holdsworth and Shawn Lane) never received the recognition they deserved (though both were active in the 1970s).
He's just unbelievable if you didn't see it you never believe it was possible.. scary guitar at it's most brilliant and best there'll never be someone another like Alan for a few generations is my guess there are many brilliant musicians but few who are so fluid as this master it's like a fantasy martial art but on guitar but there are no hidden wires to float like a ghost through the musical land scape just Mr Holdsworth real magic for all to see and hear but he's not gone if there are recordings and film..
Beaucoup d'imitateurs... mieux vaut dans ce cas là écouter un style de jeu complètement différent. 1997 c'est la plus belle période d'Allan...il était au top.
Prob best live of Allan way I’d describe him he didnt think guitar he thought sax trumpet violin on solo keyboard with chords no one like him deeply revered and loved thankyou sir
the stuff on this same channel w Gary Novak on drums is also amazing. as much as I love Chad Wackerman on drums (seen him with holdso, also with Zappa) Alan looks really happy playing with Novak and Carpenter, the most comfortable he seemed compared to other settings I was fortunate enough to catch live..
I’m convinced that he may have been playing and sounding his best in 1997. Obviously that’s a subjective opinion. He was and still is absolutely mind boggling.

Sad but true, unfortunately
When did America ever appreciate talent? This is a British phenomena.

It's quite difficult to go back to many guitarists after Holdsworth

Is there any way to get access to this full performance?
Manifesto just announced there will be an album of this whole concert coming out in March! (I found this out on the facebook group URAH)
Why couldn't the cameraman keep his hands in shot all the time?
What can you say...
Can anybody explain what is that?
4'50" What is the action on that guitar? :)
As far as I know his action was 1mm for every string between the 12 fret and the string, and the neck was straight

Who are the two other blokes ? Anthony Jackson and Neil Peart ?
Other blokes are Dave Carpenter (bass) and Chad Wackerman (drums), both excellent musicians!
