    In this video, you'll discover how to take your tracks from good to great by using 3 simple but highly effective sound design tricks. My name is Philip from Pick Yourself, and I've created this channel to help electronic music producers like you make meaningful progress with their music.
    Great sound design is the key differentiator between professional productions and amateurish-sounding ones. Yet, many producers lack in-depth knowledge in this crucial aspect of music production. My goal with this video is to bridge that gap and upgrade your sound design skills significantly.
    You'll learn three actionable sound design tricks that I personally use regularly but are not commonly known among producers. These techniques massively upgrade your music production skills, whether you're producing Techno, House, or EDM.
    By the end of this video, you'll walk away with tangible skills that you can immediately implement in your next production. These tricks will instantly elevate the quality of your songs and make you a better producer.

    Thanks philip , What I would have liked to see is a more step by step approach of how did you do the mapping of the envelopes and automation so it would be much easier to apply this to my sounds

      Noted! I’ll do some more sound design videos to get you started. This is already a bit more advanced.

    Thabks for this, I did not know what the window function did for the shifter so thats a great help! More broadly speaking, something i tend to do a lot for my sound design is to add a textured layer to my sounds, like for example if i had a pad, Subtly layer in ocean or forest sounds and then modulate those throughout the track, or add even more weird plugins to those to create cool sounds! There are so many options thats why sound design is so exciting for me! Cheers ❤

      Also ableton makes this so easy with grouping instrument and effect racks :)

    Great! I couldn't even find the LFO in Ableton.

    Hey thank you for this. I’m a complete beginner determined to learn sound design. I’ll only have the new iPad Pro M4 to learn on, so I’m after your advice on what software / apps to get to tutor myself into creating electronic music around my acoustic recordings I’ll do on iPad. Thanks

    My whole sound is based on modulating modulators that modulate the modulator!

    Don't synch your LFO when you use it to modulate another LFO or EG. Very slow (

    Great video, modulating LFO’s to various parameters often yields surprising results. Do you use Racks to do this? I’ve been getting into building them recently

    • @pickyourselfofficial
      @pickyourselfofficial  4 місяці тому +1

      Yep, love that! In my arrangement video I show how I map macros to different modulation parameters, and theoretically you could map an lfo to a macro. Super interesting stuff! Here's the arrangement video: ua-cam.com/video/zpTGWZpvz-o/v-deo.htmlsi=y0N45bMZNSIboSMW

    Thanks for your insightful lessons. My only wish is that they were more DAW-agnostic. All of your videos are so specific to Live that it’s hard to translate into other DAW workflows.

    • @pickyourselfofficial
      @pickyourselfofficial  4 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, I know, it's a tough one. You have both camps: 1. DAW agnostic (use 3rd party tools) and 2. Stock-plugins-only of a specific DAW. I'm not sure what to do about it other than trying to convey underlying principles underneath the tutorial-style tactics. For example: You could use the "modulate the modulator" workflow also in a synth like Serum. Or use a third-party shifter plugin instead of the Ableton one. So I think the message is still helpful, independently of the DAW you use.

      I know it could make the videos a couple of minutes longer, but it would be really nice to mention (if not demonstrate in a snapshot) similar tools/workflows in a couple of other DAWS used by home producers (mainly Logic and FL). Thanks again!@@pickyourselfofficial

    Hey there Phillip. I can't seem to get the Frequency to move. I have everything set the exact same as you, but it won't move. Attack is moving fine but not the Frequency. Any tips?

    • @pickyourselfofficial

      I need more context, what were you trying to achieve and what did you do? Maybe link to a screen recording so I can understand more.

    • @nightmoves8250

      @@NATHAN_wav That is exactly it. @pickyourselfofficial the filter frequency cutoff isn't moving. The lfo is mapped to the attack and the Envelope is mapped to the frequency, but it isn't doing anything lol. Also, thank you both for the reply!!
