A white ceiling will give you a more classic vibe, which goes well with your decoration style. I'd even leave the trim white, if you ask me.

Leave your ceiling white. You do wonderful being a single woman. I was raised with six brothers so I learned a lot from my father, great father and brother.
I think you should paint the ceiling cream/creme. Being a lighter color, I don’t think you have a worry about the room feeling smaller. It will be cozy. It’s very pretty.

As a Wiccan, I've come to embrace the seasons and I love the opportunity to cosy down in the winter in a warm, dark cosy room. I always paint my ceiling the same colour as the walls for no other reason than with older houses getting a sharp line in the paint is hard. Your coving is lovely and has inspired me. I have a picture rail in my room and I'm thinking coving would just add that extra layer of elegance. Go with the colour drench, embrace a restorative winter, light your home with warm light and live in the moment.

Keep the ceiling white. Look at the outside corners on the cabinets on either side of the fireplace. You may be able to use them as a guide for the outside corners on the fireplace.
Drench paint the whole entire room in the cream color, because your wall cabinets are cream in color. The room will still look bright, fresh, and clean. The living room will look elegantly lovely when finished.
If you are arms tired, rest up for a couple of days, and leave the painting job for our next video. 😉👍

Love the coving. We added the same lightweight coving in the bedroom…it’s just so pretty when done, and well worth the work. You’re right how caulking just finishes the job and looks more professional. Great job!
Girl I am with you! I love detail and adding charm and character to a home. We've lived in the same home for 21 years and we have added SO MUCH character. I have always loved wainscotting, crown moulding, window aprons, tall baseboards and ceiling trim and all sorts of wall mouldings. My home is definitely no longer builder cookie cutter. I love the warmth it gives the home. This ceiling addition to your existing wall panelling/trim is a perfect touch!!

Have done the drenching "method" and it looks perfect in antique cream too. Your focal point is the wallpaper on the fireplace with the gorgeous panelling adding extra detail. Your room looks perfect and whether you paint all over or leave the ceiling white it will look characterful. My house has pitched ceilings upstairs so painting walls and celing the same makes the space looks bigger. Alien hiccys, your add libs are so funny. Have a good week Catherine.
I would bring the cream up on the ceiling. From what I see, the cream bounces the light beautifully! Cozy and bright!

I think definitely drench the ceiling with same colour, cream is not a dark colour it will be richer and cosy n bright. It looked like Bawn was telling beag to get off the tripod earlier 😂 clever Bawn. Love them ❤❤ great job by the way 👏
Definitely colour drenching is the way to go. The walls and ceiling in every one of my rooms is the same. It's surprising how seamless the room looks with less colour blocks next to one another. Love what you've done by the way xxx ❤

Light ceilings go up, and any colour goes down. Your room will look smaller. If you paint the coving the same colour as the ceiling it will look bigger. You're such a crafty lady. And goodness, young cats 😂

I feel your pain with the external corners on the chimney breast. I remember doing mine years ago and it hurt my brain so much and I wasted a lot of coving but UA-cam came to my rescue eventually….I’m a very visual person so I needed to see someone cutting them so it made sense to my brain 😂. Great job Catherine as always I think I would keep the ceiling white, I painted a colour on my bedroom ceiling and it just didn't look right, it was only a very pale colour but didn't work for me. Xxx

I agree with everyone else, leave the ceiling white, it set your wall colour off and makes the cove pop. I have always painted my ceiling roses a 1/2 strength of the wall colour. It looks great. ❤

Hello 👋🏻 designer here. I’m giggling a bit with everyone in the comments worried about the cream being too heavy. It’s still a nice and bright shade. Although yes, bright white has a higher reflectivity, the color change creates a visual stopping point, which can emphasize the wall boundary. I personally love a matching ceiling and walls (as long as the trim matches as well). I say be brave! Try it out. You can always go back to true white later.
Definitely go cream on the ceiling. Like you said, it's only paint. The reason to color drench is so the eye doesn't stop, so it makes spaces seem bigger. It looks great so far.

Most houses in Australia have coving , which is called cornice here, and it’s always white with the ceiling. It looks polished now, well done👍🏼🐨

Hiya Catherine, hope all is good with you. I've done the coving in my sitting room, hall and kitchen, I got mine in woodies, the external corners are not so hard, but mitering is a psin in the arse sometimes, my head nearly turned 360 when i was doing the moulding up my stairs, anyway if i remember correctly, you cut them vertical 45 degrees, not flat, play around with a spare piece or do the usual visit to the university of UA-cam. I wouldn't have painted the coving the colour of the wall, I'd leave it white, coving in a small room gives a bit of height and adds extra character and focus, your only hiding it if you paint it the same as the wall, also you don't have to take the paper off top of chimney breast, just score along the coving when you change the paper again. In Canada we might do one accent wall with wall paper. Myself after moving to a 1954 house with every wall covered in outdated wallpaper. I would never put wall paper on my walls. It was horrible stripping all the rooms. ( Even the whole basement) 😮. I luv your home - you have done a great job decorating it. ❤❤❤
I put up coving up in every room, years ago.. Like you I used the pre-cut corners & the polystyrene is easy to cut.

Definitely do the whole lot the same colour it will look so much more cohesive- also I appreciate it’s a cost but I think it would look lovely with a small chandelier not too fussy it will go with the decor that light is to modern for look you are achieving- beautiful room.❤️🤗🇬🇧

I smile the whole time I'm watching your videos - I'd live with the ceiling white for awhile, and see how you feel about it in a month or so. I get the 'monochrome/drenched' look you are thinking of, and that can be interesting, but give it a longer think. Consider getting a different ceiling light fixture - more like a pretty chandelier - not too overy ornate!

Catherine, I think you should keep the ceiling white. The glass globes on your light look aged, so I don't know if you want to wash them or replace them for whiter looking globes. I think you are doing a wonderful job and I can't wait to see the finished room.
