What so many people don’t realize is that Adam wrote his own songs with Marco, designed the sets of his live shows, designed his costumes, and that of the Ants as well, did his own make up (except for PC Revue and PC video), designed and storyboarded all his videos, designed his record sleeves and covers. The man is the epitome of a workaholic. Later, we would find out it was to keep the depression at bay. I just have so much respect for him. A true artist, who just happens to be devastatingly beautiful as well. Brilliant, mad genius ❤️
@@natalier7204 When you look for artists nowadays that do all these things too, I can recommend you Melanie Martinez. Her music style is different from Adam Ant's but it has the same level of originality from my point of view. She does all the songwriting, sings, produces, designes her costumes, directs her music videos and even her musicals.
This guy....this guy, is so awesome. He was huge then. He's come through some dark times. He's a survivor and a success. His fans love him, I think he's awesome. The guy basically created his own genre of music.
Amazingly talented, great musician......songwriter....singer.... Can't believe this interview was 42 years ago. I remember the summer of 1983, aged 12, watching the Prince Charming Review over and over, day after day. And it's still great
Adam has talent and honed his craft. He didn't just come on stage and sing. He put on a production. Has a stage presence and a brilliant mind and business sense. I'm happy to see he's still touring today
I'm currently reading his autobiography, and he had me laughing out loud almost from the first page! The fact that he managed to accomplish so much being bipolar is incredible; this guy didn't have an easy life!👍
@@chrisgarlick5833 certainly in the UK those that could make a difference have washed their hands of such issues, namely NHS, social services and the police. Perfect body, perfect face, great mind! I want to run my fingers thru that hair!!! My gosh, he was perfection! I hate that he struggled with bipolar all his life but I guess he wouldn't have made it without it. I hope he does well for the rest of his career, he's a likeable guy.
Yes indeed, I could have watched this interview all night. Stuart aka Adam is so intelligent and so enjoyable to listen to on and off stage. So happy he is touring again and I hope to grab a show if he ever comes near Nashville or Chicago. Love em
He had mental health issues and still could be the great singer and got through it.he was a good actor too.He was my teen crush at age 17.He is a beautiful looking man.Hes still very handsome today.
I was just watching an old Adam & The Ants music video for Prince Charming and it has Diana Dors featured in the video as a fairy godmother. Dandy Nicols is featured in the Ant Music video.
Clever move to shift away from the New Romantic style after being one of its leaders for 2 years, but his career faded away after this when he failed to break into the US market after an all or nothing expensive tour there, & had to rely on music more than image.
he's being interviewed by oliver reed's brother here, simon reed. That's my fascinating fact for the day! Covid 2021, it's making me waste time on the internet....
Presumably because they don't have permission to include the images in an online version of the interview. Very clumsily done though, there's some frames that are not obscured.
Oh, look at him so young. It's 20:24 right now. I think I was 11 when my brain first blew up the first time. I saw adamant on TV and then. Well, if you're a fan and you're a female, you know, it's all over. At that poand he'll be 70 this November, isn't it awesome? I don't think he'd ever do it. But I would be hard pressed to put into words. How disappointed I would be if he ever let someone put that face under the knife. There's no reason for it. You can't stop that kind of good looking. It aint ever gonna break so don't ever fix it. I pray I hope he has continued success and will be around for a long time
Read Mark Redmayne's 'Antmusic' biography of Adam and the Ants. It's a captivating read (much better than Adam's own biography). His breakdown of the end of Adam and the Ants in early 1982 exposes Adam's strengths and weaknesses. The 'Prince Charming' album is only saved by the 2 Number One singles on it, and the rest of it has rightly been cast into the dustbin of musical history. Which is in absolute juxtaposition to the 'Kings of the Wild Frontier' LP. Adam and the Ants were unsigned in early 1980. Within a year they had supreme dominance of the UK charts. Then Adam trashed the formula which gave him the success he so craved and his career nosedived. His references to Sinatra and Brando are now laughable, but that shouldn't have been the case. He had what it took to be a global superstar well into the end of the 80s, but he blew it by not focusing upon the fans he said he cared for so much. In sacking his Ants and going it alone (as such), he alienated his key audience, and even though 'Goody Two Shoes' was his third number one and a global hit, this was riding on the coattails of his previous bands success. He was in no way established enough to become a solo act. His co-songwriter - Marco Pirroni and Ants lead guitarist - was as much to blame for this untimely demise of the band, as was Adam (Pirroni refused to tour any longer and Adam was sick of yet another problematic bass player, in Gary Tibbs). No one could expect anyone to keep the mass appeal going for much longer than a 3-year period, but failing to write that crucial killer second album (with this line up), and then sacking his band, was with hindsight completely insane. Hubris destroys many of a promising career. Adam's success was a victim of his own very bad choices.
What so many people don’t realize is that Adam wrote his own songs with Marco, designed the sets of his live shows, designed his costumes, and that of the Ants as well, did his own make up (except for PC Revue and PC video), designed and storyboarded all his videos, designed his record sleeves and covers. Looking forward to seeing Adam Ant, again, this Friday in Detroit!!
Me too!
Speaks with such clarity and intelligence 👏
Back when even famous successful stars came across as real people and the interview was watchable....better times
He still comes across this way even in interviews today. He's amazing and a wonderful human being.
Adam has always been a perfectionist with his work and I love him for this ❤❤
He believed in himself though x

What a stunningly beautiful man and such grace. Reminding me of Cillian Murphy today, similar gentleness.
Ahhhh, that's who Cillian reminds me of!

He is so gorgeous ❤️ I was only about 2yrs old but my cousins all loved him so much- posters etc! I can see why now I’m older!!

Always been very well spoken and intelligent. Such a shame that he and Marco fell out a while back. Still listen to his music fairly often 40 years on
Such an intelligent, articulate, charming and beautiful man
Thank you
Brave of him to talk about his MH issues back in 82, it was nowhere near to being accepted or understood then
Yeah but he says it's a sign of weakness also. Sadly that societal attitude hasn't changed much.

THIS IS A REAL LEGEND, WE LOVE YOU ADAM. ANTMUSIC FOR SEX PEOPLE, WE ARE THE FAMILY.
Loved him in concert in the '80s. Enjoyed his costumes and songs. Videos were the best
Gorgeous xxxxxlove Adam
How can someone be so handsome and fit at the same time? 🥵
Much more intelligent people in music back then
Really? He made a career dressing up like a camp highway man.
What a ridiculous statement?

Great interview
Is the white bar across all the faces in the background some kind of image-copyright problem? It's really peculiar.
Excellent he always comes across well and Respectful very open honest and well read.
But very much like a tortured troubled soul.
Johnny Depp styled himself on this genius.
Even if he didn't know it.!!
@but ton Keith styled himself on Adam?
Well I never.!!
I agree!
Bless. He was desperate to become a serious musician at this stage.

But his image is always a large part of his act
@but ton Utter rubbish. Prince Charming, Stand and Deliver and Goody Two Shoes are all excellent songs.
He and Jeff Buckley could have been brothers, separated by ten years.
Omg yes
I see the similarities but they are very different people.

When you have seen Adam in all their music videos it’s kinda strange listening to a young all down to earth fellow here.

Adam Ant or adamant?
Adam Ant.

There was a 1960s TV show called Adam Adamant Lives! about an Edwardian adventurer, maybe that's what you're thinking of.
I’m adamant I love him
